Way excited! Never attended an event like this! I'm attending the Nor Cal event. My only fear is the elevation, which is just under 10,000. Everything else looks awesome! I'm way excited.

Anyone done one of these before? Anyone hitting up this one?

I have friends that have done it. You likely won't finish your first attempt. Don't beat yourself up over it. Takes a lot of team work and massive upper body strength. You'll have a ton of fun, though.

I've heard of Warrior Dash but not this. Sounds like a lot of fun! Wonder how teamwork comes into play...

Basically, there are events that cannot be completed solo... Unless you're a superhero, or something. Basically just need a few people to help getting over certain obstacles. That doesn't mean you'll need to bring friends with you. You'll find plenty of people on the course willing to pitch in and help out, but you'll definitely need to work with them or you're going to be left behind. Here's the obstacle info for the Nor Cal event: http://toughmudder.com/events/norcal2011/nor-cal-2011-course-map/

Oh my god that looks like so much fun. As for team-based work, it appears numbers 5 and 13 are the only essential ones (getting over a 12 foot wall and climbing up a steep, slippery slope). Numbers 16 thru 19 look like the most enjoyable, I've always wanted to be sprayed by a high pressure hose and run through a field of fire.

I'm in no condition to complete the course in its estimated 2.5 hours seeing as it took me an hour and 52 just to run a ten-miler last year without obstacles. But man would I love to give it a shot.

My only fear is the elevation, which is just under 10,000.

Why are you scared of that? 10,000 feet is a great place to be.

Because the air pressure is lower, it makes breathing harder because you need more red blood cells to carry oxygen. People from lower elevations ar at a disadvantage because of this. But if you spend time at high elevations, your body will make more red blood cells.

If you can, Pink Spider, get there a few days early and hang at that altitude so you can get acclimated. (If you can, a week or more would be ideal)

ive done some other marine corps mud run's here in san diego.they are a blast. You could do it solo or as a team, team is always better. just throw away your close when you are done.

btw at 10k you wont need that long to acclimatize. a day is all you need just drink allot of water. And if you spent your life at sea level you and are driving up stop at 7~8k ft for a couple of hours for a high carb meal

Hey Ron, post pics on FB once it goes down.

I think you have a good chance of beating it if you use your serious face.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I was at 10k a few years ago on an expedition and it didn't feel different at all, in fact I felt rejuvenated if anything. Just neat to see snow in July.

Thanks for the support. :)
Yeah, Im gonna try to get up there early, and stay a night before and after.
I'm constantly at 4,500 feet right now. When I go back and visit Jersey and work out, I feel like I can go for days.
I signed up for a boot camp style classes at my gym, Ive been in them steady since November. The team I'll be on is comprised of the boot camp trainer and some members.

This sounds so awesome. I'd love to just watch. There's going to be one in MPLS in about a year (May 2012), it's tempting to try and train for it --clearly this is a great excuse to really step-up training, but my weakest link --even when I'm in the best shape-- is running and I would probably fail hard on that account.

I mean, this is just the base course that they use for the others... damn.

A friend back home invited me to join him on this one. Fuck getting wet and muddy, outdoors, in Jersey November weather!

Damn straight, brother! I pulled thru 11 miles of madness, and got the headband to prove it! Took just over 4 hours. Alot of team work involved. Was a great time! My trainer in the bandana actually did both days! A few photos;

A few people got fucked up. One guy who started near us got his eye brown sliced open on the barbedwire when crawling thru the mud. This was less then 15 min in. 7 stitches.

They were releasing people to start in groups of like 500 at a time. TONS of people.

I should have a few more photos soon, not many. My buddy brought a water proof disposable camera.. I didnt bring any camera. I didnt wanna carry myself near the end, let alone any gear.

Some official photos from the NorCal event are here:
