I wanna get funky but I only know how to get my groove on on MJ's "Off the Wall" . :crying: I need something cool to bust some moves on the ladies( i.e. my cawk :crying: ) Some stuff like Love TKO or some other Motown hits, I don't know.

If you want some real Funk music, then you must look no further than:

The Mothership Connection by Parliament

It doesn't get more funky then this my friend.

I saw Parliament Funkadelic (complete with the man himself: George Clinton) in concert a few years ago. It was honestly one of the best concerts i have ever been to in my entire life. Just sweeet funky music.

Parliament and Funkadelic are two different bands mind you :emb:

Parliament did Mothership Connection.

Funkadelic did One Nation Under a Groove.

They really ARE the same band, but under different titles

And good luck finding anything by them, Ive been looking forever and unless you get it on vinyl youre SOL.

Parliament, Funkadelic, P-Funk Allstars, George Clinton.

Its all the same thing really.

I have three volumes of an excellent Funk compilation called "Funk Spectrum" (BBE Records, UK, 1999 - 2001), there are three (four?) of them out IIRC.

The comp. was made by Kenny Dope and Keb Darge... Funk through the ages, if you will, from the 60s Funk a la Sly & The Family Stone to newer 80s stuff.

I also love Defunkt, my fave album is "Avoid the Funk: A Defunkt Anthology" (Hannibal Records, 1991), it's more on the harder side.

Oh, and check out Stax records archives, they're packed full of cool funky sound. Motown is good as well, but they released way more soul than funk.

Clinton and his P-Funk stuff are a mixed bag for me, there are some really good songs but some of them are a bit too gimmickry for my taste... I like the Funk that is closer to Jazz than to electronic music or soul.... anyway, his "One Nation Under A Groove" album (Funkadelic) is a must-have IMO, and be it just for the silly cover. :)

EDIT: Almost forgot the best of them all - Herbie Hancock, please man, do yourself a favor and check out these albums: "Sextant", and ...drum roll... THRUST. Reeeaaally funkay.

Jamiroquai's always good for some funk, depending on which album you listen to.

P-funk is actually easy to find. Just look for the album they have called "Da Bomb!!!!"

That one got seriously mass-produced, so you should be able to find a copy of that. It's actually a best-of album, but it's definitely an album of true uncut funk. It's textbook perfection, and any other funk is simply using elements that were done by those guys. In fact, in game-related news, that's precisely the funk style and presentation that games like the Toe Jam and Earl series, got their funk-style inspiration from. Peebo the funkapotomas, in a way, doing his impression of the voice of Lollipop-man alias the 'Long-haired sucka'.

Issac Hayes is also a well-known funk artist, so the majority of his stuff classifies right in there with P-Funk. Don't forget to check out Issac Hayes' various Shaft albums, he has some great funk in there. (Particularly the oldschool shaft (pre-Samuel Jackson) albums)

No Problem. There's always plenty of room in The Mothership. And don't worry if you get shot by that Bop Gun. It doesn't hurt, but it'll make you groovy. :) :)

I haven't walked my dog on Nintendogs today.

I'm going to stop spamming this awesome funk thread.

Hecker,

Parliament's Mothership Connection can be downloaded from Itunes. It's only like $9.99 i believe.

I'm listening to it right now. GREAT stuff.

I need to hook up my record player and put that shit on again. Got a repress copy of it from Virgin a while back for like 10 bucks.

They had a documentary on PBS on Independent Lens about the P-Funk about a week ago.

It wasnt the greatest ever, but it gives you a good idea of how theyve changed over time.
