I thought a lot of the dialogue was good in the episode. Stuff like "Do you know why you do the things you do?", and Merle's exchange with Michonne. This was the most Michonne has spoken since she showed up. She's already got more lines than TDogg. The other thing I enjoyed was a lot of Beth, and no Carl.

You know, I thought I noticed that... But then thought nothing of it. Guess they goofed in the editing.
I liked last nights episode.
And, no it's NOT turning into Lost.
I really wish that Talking Dead show didn't exist though. If a show like twin peaks didn't need a talk show, then The Walking Dead definitely doesn't either.

They where the shows main draw, it was laready "what's Daryl going to do next" to "I love the Dixon Bros show"
Wouldn't surprise me if now you don't hear a lot of how the show has gone downhill since they killed Meryl

Yeah the Merle and Michonne interactions were some of the best in the series so far. Norman Reedus sold his reaction at the end damn well too. A big step up from last weeks episode. I just hope my suspicions aren't true that they're gonna kill Daryl and replace him with Tyreese as Ricks #1. This show has a bad habit of telegraphing who is going to die next in some pretty obvious ways. I mean the way they seem to be setting everything up, it just seems like it has to happen that way. Especially now that Daryl will most likely have a beef with Rick and inevitably a vendetta against the Governor. I think Beth, Carol and Hershel are probably gonna get it too.

I can't really argue with this because it's probably what is going to happen.
Daryl attached himself to the audience because of his growth and his ability to survive. Audiences like capable characters, and they like seeing characters grow and become stronger.
Merle found favor with audiences because Michael Rooker chews scenery like nobody's business and knows how to own the camera. You didn't LIKE Merle (racist, drug addict, thug, brute), but you always wanted to see what he was going to do next.
Audiences don't like characters that piss and moan about their broken marriages and then spend three episodes being crazy and unreliable.
The anemic/poor way in which they handle some characters while they focus on others is one of the things I find so frustrating about this show. It's good at times and not so good at others.
Here is the one thing the episode did right in my opinion:
Zombie Merle.
Not because I wanted him to be a zombie. But because that footage of him at the end is the perfect metaphor for post apocalyptic zombie fiction, and more importantly exactly what Rick and co. are supposed to keep themselves from becoming ('the walking dead'), which creates the emotional momentum for the show: people trying to retain their humanity in a world of anarchy.
Merle barely looks any different as a zombie. Even his facial expression is essentially the same-a dumb beast surviving on instinct. And the way he preys on others to survive is exacly what makes Romero's best stories and the comic so much more compelling.
And there is so much Daryl wanted to tell him at the end there. You know it. Not just about acting without Rick's approval, but about the bigger issue of their relationship and all the complexities there. And when Daryl finishes him off, he's not just taking his frustrations out on Merle, but he's also saving him from that gruesome fate at the same time. If it was just a mercy killing, one blow would have been enough. The complete pulverization of his face has a lot of meanings there for Daryl, both good and bad. And Daryl isn't just mad at Merle for all of it ending like this, he's also mad at hmself for 'not being a better brother', mad about the futility of his efforts to protect and save him, mad at Merle for wasting those efforts, mad at the world for forcing this to be the only way out for both of them, mad at Rick for proposing the plan, mad at hmiself for going along with it...there are so many things expressed in that final scene.

when it was clear they were going to kill off merle that episode (as soon as he took off with michonne), my first thought was 'it would be awesome if the governor kept zombie merle to unleash during the assault on the prison' . it would have been an awesome psychological weapon. it could have completely disabled daryl and probably some others if/when they have a final showdown.
the other thing i took from that episode was that most of the towns survivors are not good for an assault. i remember the governor saying they had like 70 survivors. with the few they added (the ones that left the prison) and the few that have since died that number is probably still pretty accurate. merle killed 3 of their combat veterans. thats close to 5% of the towns population. mix in the lack of combat experience that the rest of the town has compared to the ricks group and that does spell the end for the governor when he makes his assault. they have made a point out of saying how most of the governors people cannot shoot.

Dude, that is fucking twisted and would have been totally awesome. I'd love to see Daryl have to deal with that in the middle of a firefight.
On the other hand, how they handled it was pretty cool too, because it allowed the character moment for Daryl to emerge.
Yeah, it'll be really interesting to see what happens with Woodbury if nobody ever comes back from the prison attack.

Really loving this season. So many people are bitching about filler, but I'm loving all of it, especially the dialog. The meeting between Rick and the governor was great to watch. I think the great thing about the show is that it almost gives you the feeling that zombies aren't a problem anymore --until they are. Sometimes you find yourself saying, "oh yeah, those things are dangerous."
And a big WTF to people thinking Rick needs to die.

My grandpa kinda looked like Merle when he was younger =(
So for that reason I found the character endearing....and this last episode leaves me sadder than the time Carols kid came out of the barn...but it wasn't nearly as jarring or uncomfortable since Merle kind of went out on his own terms.

Did you see Manu Bennet is on Arrow?
I haven't watched the show, but a woman I work with says that the character he plays taught Green Arrow how to fight.
Almost makes me want to tune in, because Bennet is awesome.
