Ok, so the building seems pretty cool. Takes some cues from the beat of FO76 building and all those factory/machine survival games that are popular right now.

Any reason I should pick one planet over another to build an outpost?
You want to build them on an area with specific resources to mine, like Aluminum for example. I don’t think it matters too much where.

Yeah I’ve got two shitty bases set up in two different systems now. Both extracting He3 and then one gets Iron the other gets Aluminum. I have cross-system link set up.

I’m kind of digging the survival game aspects.

I need to go to a planet that has a bunch of resources. Just been exploring lifeless rocks.

I did alter my ship a bit to add more cargo room. I liked ship building though wish I had access to more powerful stuff. My ship is a bit of a heavy dog atm. She flys and shoots but it ain’t pretty.

I also realized you could go to 3rd person for starship combat which much prefer. In terms of playing the game as my character I really dislike the 3rs person camera in this. Your character looks too dopey when they move.

I have the “wanted” trait so I get jumped by badguys all the time lol. I knocked out a pirate ship and boarded it and it let me take it over so now I have two ships, which is awesome.

Yeah third person for starship combat is much better for sure. I was getting beat down pretty bad until I found another ship to take too. The starter ship isn’t built for combat but then again I didn’t upgrade it. I was too busy paying off the “Dream House” debt, but the house itself kind of sucks. It’s empty and the only stuff you can build is super basic. I have a feeling they left it barebones due to time and plan to add more craftable items in DLC.

Pretty sure you are supposed to collect baubles from every outpost. Make it a desk toy
Museum.

Definitely put one point in both Botany and Zoology if you’re dumb enough (like me) to actually complete the scans of Flora and Fauna on a world.

Is that why I'm never getting a full scan? Because I need to put some points in a skill.

For whatever reason you have to scan flora and fauna multiple times, it’s annoying - the Botany and Zoology reduce the amount of times you need to scan. I believe a single point in each also unlock some outpost options (ability to grow plants and raise animals.)

OK I got Xbox Gamepass just to try this out.
Microsoft servers seemed to be capped at 7mbps per second so I'll be in for quite the wait @ 140GB.
(Oh 17% done already!)

First impression before playing from videos is it seems the graphics are too realistic.
Still haven't figured out what this game is trying to pull off but the graphics don't seem to match it.
Oh well first impression of these games is ususally the graphics look like crap or wierd to me but after a few hours I'm used to them and don't notice them anymore.

I just want to be one of the cool kids I guess.
I doubt I'll be playing it very much I've got a bunch of stuff to do in life and a huge catalog of games already.

I got the Mantis ship pretty early on so it's been OK-ish for space combat. Need to put more points into piloting so I can fly the higher-class ships I've been coming across.

Is that that what I need to do to get a more powerful reactor? Increase piloting?

The graphics in this game are quite good.
The game plays/handles very smoothly (for one of these types games from these companies)
And it makes the game more boring.

Each time one of these is made it's like they have less and less of a story.
I guess in a way you are the story and make it yourself.
Still this feels devoid of character and a soul.

I like the Outer Worlds much better so far.
I'm sure there's fun to be had here though, only about 4 hours into it.

8 hour edit:
I did a bunch of the side quest and some main quests on the first planet they drop you off on.
Yeah the planet map doesn't do anything it's just a bunch of dots.
There's no compass markers to tell you what direction you're facing the equivalent of north has a bolded mark though.
On top of that you need to take the subway to get to different districts.
If you could see what they were on a map it would help out a lot.
The quest markers frequently stop working or disappear.
I played the flight simulator to qualify for for joining the fleet and could only beat wave four. (you can stop and save anytime and then continue)
The game crashed about 10 times doing it.
I can't really physically tell the difference between when I'm using the thruster and enemy ships don't scale very well.
They're small and then all of a sudden they're big and you passed them.
Several of the events don't seem to trigger properly like getting the flight recorder data and then docking after that.
Crafting, fabricating, modding, homesteading and ship building seem too convoluted for me so far to really get into, we'll see.
Lot's of physics and other bugs typical of these games.

Still getting that impression that is missing stuff for a real fun factor and true immersion.

The game is definitely growing on me.

It’s not a perfect, or even great game. Probably somewhere in the C to solid B range.

But I started having more fun when I went to Akila (following the main quest) - definitely getting more space western and hard sci fi/expanse vibes.

Started doing a lot more side quests.

Gameplay itself can be repetitive but that’s always a gripe in Bethesdas titles.

I think the setting of this for many will be off putting combined with the intentional massive scope of the game and the loneliness of space.

Just got an EM rifle. Apparently you can do non-lethal takedowns which is neat. I need to get an EM weapon on my ship. Capturing ships to sell them is good times.

Is there bounty hunting in this? I definitely boarded a pirate ship that had jail cells in it. If I could lead that Boba Fett life (pre-Disney Boba :emb:) I would. Sounds fun.

The side quests as usual are the best part of this game for sure. I hope we get even more in DLC.

It's also crazy what you just find randomly floating in space on this game, I ran into a defunct anti gravity casino for example.

The Freestar Rangers missions are kind of bounties, but you don't bring in the targets just kill them.

There's one in the Ryujin story line that you could consider a bounty where you are told to bring someone in.

I really hope there is more "Mantis" content after just taking over the lair/ship. I haven't found any yet though.

So…main story went in a direction I wasn’t expecting.

I need to do some more leveling up.

Resources is all.

Anyone finding the enemy movement to be very unnatural? The enemy jet pack sprinting seems neurotic and I thought something was wrong until I watched some videos.

In general the enemy AI is poor.

I’m working on slowly on building up my outposts now. I just finished researching the first researchable outpost tier and have built a few things. I need to go setup more outposts to get stuff like Tungsten and Silver.

But I’ve been putting points in Starship stuff. Been having fun with that. Capturing enemy ships is too fun. I want to build a couple different ships.

I’ve done a few quests that I’ve you flying around a system, fighting on space, then on a planet, back in space etc and I’m surprisingly enjoying myself.

I’ve always been hiring and named NPC I can to join my crew.

Right now though I’m doing a quest for the blonde constellation woman Sarah. I’m guessing all the constellation NPCs have their own specific quests?

How far are you guys in the main story? I unlocked a mechanic I did not think would be in the game.

i only got back to it after a week away. I just finished the first leg with Sarah and nabbed an artifact piece.
Gonna try to focus on the main story as it seems like that is the better thing to do with this game.

Yeah, I do main story, maybe a side quest or two near where the main story took me, and so on.

LOL just found a “Bounty Hunter Space Suit” - it’s Boba Fett colored. Looks like a cross between Boba and the doom slayer from the new doom.

Man, with some different systems and gameplay tweaks Starfield would make a cool Star Trek game.
