Sold off some pinball machines to fund this. Don't regret it for a second. It's a used Yamaha V-Star Classic 650. Shaft drive. Love this bike, I guess my only complaint would be it's high revving and could benefit from a sixth gear.

bump. Added a second bike to the fleet. Somewhat hard to find '77 Honda CB750 "Hondamatic". Completely different experience from the cruiser. Not a true automatic transmission, kind of semi-automatic. You still use the left foot gear selector, however your options are just N - L (1) - D (2). (current gear selected is indicated by lights on right gauge) There is no hand clutch, and shifting with the foot can be done anytime. L is good to about 45 mph and ideal for in town back country roads up hills etc.. D is your standard cruising gear. If you're not in a hurry to pull away from a light, you can sit in D all day. Great for driving around in heavy traffic. The bike's in nice shape, does show it's age. Could possibly need some new gaskets, and there's some quirks with the speedo and fuel gauge isn't functional. But once warmed up this thing runs smooth as silk. Hondamatic transmission was only available from 76 - 78. Wasn't terribly popular, so they aren't a dime a dozen like a standard CB750. Smaller carbs and a different compression ratio, transmission also ate up some power. This thing still has plenty of get up and go. Put in L at a light and just roll on the throttle for a smooth acceleration up to 50, pop up to D and you're done.

You wont find a cruiser with 6 speeds. That's too much shifting for their comfort. The 650 prolly has a shorter stroke to get more umpf. I can't imagine your revs go higher than 8k anyways....

I guess you didn't like shifting gears?

No, I have no problem with manual transmissions. I still have the yamaha (although I'm thinking of trading up next year. Maybe for a 1700 Kawasaki Vulcan). The hondamatic was just a unique thing at the time it was made. Part of the reason I bought it was for something to work on.

Thought other riders might appreciate the video. It was on reddit and in the comments section a lot of non-riders didn't seem to 'get' it, why what he was doing was so impressive.

That cop is badasssssssss. Simply unreal.

low speed control like that is probably the hardest part of riding....and I'm terrible at it.

the existing scuffs on my headers is from parking lot dumps...

I don't think I could even do that on my 190 pounds ruckus. The fact he did that on a huge cruiser is even more impressive. I couldn't even do the u turns in the restricted box during the exam for the basic riders course on a little honda rebel. Luckily passed everything else.

i don't have a bike, and only ever ridden my dad's when he would come round on those odd weekends where he remembered he had kids when i was a kid. but even as a non rider its easy to see that dude has some brilliant throttle control skills. the kinda control ability that seems almost super human. to work the throttle like that, with the lean, turn, braking, and just generally handling your machine that well that's nothing short of being at one with the machine. true mastery.

Leaving for Indy Moto GP in a bit.
Is anyone else going to be there? I'm more interested on looking at the new bikes at the vendor tents this year. Planning out my next purchase in a year or two.

Took a motorcycle trip up to Canada from Virginia on August 14th and got back a week ago, almost 2,100 miles in total. Great time and experience, but man, a week later and one of my finger's is still 'kinda' numb (you know when your feet fall asleep? that feeling) and my ass begins to hurt a bit if I sit down for too long. Wasn't expecting the effects to last this long!

Don't have any pics, but I ride a 2003 YZ125R, bored out to a 144. Don't get to ride much anymore but I joined a club that has some property right up the road from my house. So if I can ever get away, I don't have to go far to ride.

We also get a weekend at Budds Creek in the next few months, that track is going to kick my ass.

There's awesome riding country up here, unfortunately the coast is infected with slow moving RVs. Hopefully after this weekend most will clear out for the season. Plenty of projects for winter...

For epic motorcycle cruises, beginning of october I drove my '77 CB750A from Portland to San Fran and back. 12 hours each way.

..and another purchase about a month and a half ago. '81 CM400A Hondamatic. Awesome little bike for local runs and driving around the city.

and another picked up a few days ago. Running '76 CB550. Needs some love.

I'm giving my mom my bike to sell when I move to China; she can keep the $3,000.

Looking info up on Chinese motorcycles, though, it's terrible - most of the bikes are only 125cc, and in many areas it's illegal to have something over 250cc. My bike is 805cc! That's like going back down to training wheels.

Doesn't matter because I'll probably get a bicycle, but eventually I might have gotten a motorcycle...le sigh

I'm sure you can find some decent Honda, Kawasaki rip off. There's factories over there that churn out more bikes a day than Harley makes in a year.

dont expect to get anything over 250cc. Remember that personal transport is just taking off in the last 4 years in China.
Expect extreme traffic, and dangerous drivers.

Think of it more as a scooter than a motorcycle.

I wouldn't drive a vehicle in Chinese traffic unless it had reinforcements and a roll cage.

What dumb luck. Was able to find 38 year old stock Honda headers for the 400 4 in pretty good shape. These pipes were the defining characteristic of this bike.

Before with MAC headers. (decent option for the price)

Now with the stock honda headers:
