so i'll keep this short
we all ought to realize that snk is gone
dead
kof 2001 and 2002 are all recycled cos snk is DEAD
the old staff who made kof from 94 to 99 must have been shot in the head and buried
the reason 2002 is totally recycled using bits and stuff from 97,98,99,2000,2001
is because playmore probably doesnt know how to create a new sprite
probably cause playmore doesnt want to hire new people
probably because snk had like 200 (??) programmers and so on back in 96,and 99 % of them are probably working somewhere else now
just to name one - shinkiro
they all fuckin left
2003 will be the same
they will rip saisyu and the sports team from 98
and they will "add" lin, bao, hinako, shingo blah blah
they wont redraw a single damn sprite
its over
over
rotd is shit
sure,it was evoga's first attempt
but in the year 2002....bah
just think about motw,jimi
so you're saying the neo hardware is old
pheraps
but when snk was still around, that WASNT a problem
kof 96 or 99
just think about em
kof 96 was like 95 % new
and in 99 they changed at least half of the sprites
you're failing to see its not about the hardware
its about the fact that the people who made all the fantastic games are long gone
just think about samurai 3 or gekka 1
just think about slug 3
and then take a look at slug 4
GAME OVER</strong><hr></blockquote>
I think you're looking at this a little too pessimistically. Yes ROTD is no where near as good a game as we all would have liked. I still think it's fun though, just not KOF98 fun.
I am actually saddened by your post in a way, cause you're right a lot of the people are gone now, working for other companies. And yes from what we've seen from Playmore in terms of KOF isn't exactly "TOPS" as you'd put it. Although they DID make some new sprites for 2k1, like K9999, Angel, etc... But yes I think that to get "good" graphics out of the Neo (I'm talking ROTD and MOTW level) I feel we have to be limited to like 12-16 characters or so, which is sorta sad. I think that KOF in that style of GFX would be nice, but then we'd only have like 5 teams to choose from which is well I guess ok. But I doubt they'll do it, sadly.
Elioth/Playmore seems to be intent on putting a shitload of characters into KOF now, not giving us 5 quality teams but god knows how many shitty teams. I think it'd be cool to see, but I think you're right we probably won't see it.
And riddle me this batman, I don't know if you have any programming experience or anything but even if you haven't you should have noticed this. W/ ROTD it's almost EXACTLY like MOTW. In the way the GFX are, to how many chars there are, and even the whole "pre fight" sequence where they show you the stage. I think it looks like they took the general "engine" code from MOTW and made minor modifications to it. KOF seems more guilty of this than anything else. Just take the model, edit the sprites animation sequences for new moves, and change some damage/priority variables. There is no new "engine" being made.
Could it be done on other systems? Yeah, but if they're not willing to do it on the Neo then what makes you think they'll do it on Naomi?
Well there is one shining bit of hope, a gleam if you will. A senario that I cooked up in my head that seems plausible. I have it on good authority (a very valid source) that within 18 months Playmore is going to put out new hardware, they're gonna switch over to some new proprietary system they're developing. Which I think is kinda sad since it's gonna cost them more than going to Naomi or Sys246 but hey whatever I dont' care. My POINT with this is that they may be re-hashing KOF to make some quick $$ to pay for the new hardware and/or to pay for new sprites, art, game engine, and whatever else to be put onto this new system. That is my hope, the only scenario that I think leads to the best outcome for us. It would mean that Playmore DOESN"T have idiots for programmers working for them and that we may get something new, a worthy sequel to the wonderful games we've seen on the Neo. I donno, we as fans can only hope.
Peace

PS. Fran, if you wanna know where I got the new system info, PM me. Seriously.
