Agree with a lot of the stuff already mentioned (Dredd, Big Trouble in Little China, Event Horizon, Edge of Tomorrow, Gilliam stuff). I personally think Idiocracy is a brilliant concept but a shitty movie. You could easily blame studio meddling for that one though.

I would add:

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (Box office gross: $4.2 million, $15 million to make) as it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Army of Darkness was a box office bomb ($11.5 million).
I seem to recall Clue ($14.6 million) was considered a bomb.

Clue is boss, my wife had never seen it and I almost fell off the couch.

There will be a 2 day theater showing of The Iron Giant on September 30 and October 4 with two new scenes. Check local listings. Title is "The Iron Giant: Signature Edition"

I'll go with

Lady in the Water
47 Ronin

Edit: After seeing one of the lists posted, I have to add Hudson Hawk! Saw it last year, I think a day after 47 Ronin. Hawk was really enjoyable, and I bet kids would love it. 47 Ronin was played specifically because we were to make fun of it, which we did, but I imagined the movie entirely animated and I liked what I saw. I had no idea it was rated number 2 on the list.

I didn't know Hudson hawk was considered a bomb, we watched the shit out of the VHS tape till it caused our player to have tracking issues with it. There were a few Bruce movies that lived on top of the VCR all through college.

I agree on iron giant was good, I got my oldest daughter into it when she was about 3. Haven't seen it in about 8 years now may need to get my other daughter who is now 3 on it as well so we can take a break from minions :-)

I definitely have to echo Big Trouble in Little China, and I'll throw in The Thing(2011) and Maximum Overdrive.
The Thing was not nearly as bad as I expected it to be, despite all the shitty CGI effects they did. I really wish they would've kept all of Amalgamated's practical effects in it though, it would've made for a much better movie.

Maximum Overdrive is definitely a cheesy flick, but I saw it when I was pretty young, and I've always been fond of Emilio Estevez. :p

Most Kevin Smith films.

They didn't do well? Granted, I haven't seen any since Strike Back, but his initial slew did really well all things considered. Dogma opened at #5 and Strike Back at #3. I either haven't seen or didn't like any of the movies on the Wiki list, but I do think that Hook is grossly underrated. Wiki tells me that it was considered a box office failure (though 50M up it's no bomb), and reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (52% and 30% respectively) is downright shocking for me. That movie was a masterpiece.

Kevin Smith movies usually do terribly in theaters but then make back more than their budget on home video. So in strict terms of "box office", they're flops other than Chasing Amy and a few others.

I wouldnt call myself a Michael Bay fan, but for some reason I watch The Island like once every 2 years or so. I know it's bad, I'm not even gonna try to defend it, but I never really mind seeing it.

Yea it's domestic box office pull was pretty sad, around 20 million compared to the 60 million to produce it. Even with global ticket sales factored in the film still lost 13 million.

Damn this is one of my favorite movies ever, never knew it done that bad upon release. This movie still creeps the hell out of me. "Where were going we won't need eyes to see." I still have dreams / nightmares about black holes after watching this move.

50m and up can be a bomb depending on the budget of the movie.

I can't remember where Smith said it (director's cut or stand up) but he never had a film make over $20 million at the box office.

He never broke $40M I think. I know Dogma got $30M domestic.

He might have said opening weekend. I forget.

Now I have to figure out where I heard him say it. I think it was stand up after the make a porno pic.

I don't think it's bad. It's not Michael Bay's fault that it's good, though :p

Oh yeah, I love Speed Racer. Best movie by far that the Warwhateverski Bros. (Siblings?) have done.

Just want to add that Speed Racer's one of the best films of the 2000s and that I was first to co-sign Lastblade until The Kid returned.

When I was a kid, I thought that UHF was the funniest movie ever made. Thought it wasn't technically a bomb (6 million take on 5 million budget).
Likewise, Freddy got fingered was considered a commercial disappointment (made it's budget at 14 million) and critical bomb. I laughed my ass off.

I also liked waterworld (not technically a bomb) and the postman. Go figure.

Freddie Got Fingered was something I could watch again, and again, and again and still never fail to laugh at how fucking absurd it was. That was a good teenage movie for me. Best part, i dunno why, was Rip Torn throwing the skateboard at Tom Green's character's friend (comedian guy with the sideburns who was in Disney's Rocketman).
