Ive never heard of them harming a system. The games themselves though can be less reliable sometimes.

I don't think they'd ruin your AES...as long as it's not a shitty made conversion,shoddy soldering etc....Then maybe Poof!!
Depends on who did it..
On eBay who knows what your getting...

Buy converted carts only from a reputable seller,then you should be fine..
