Well dudes, it's been a year. I'm alive and above water, but this last year or two involved replacing all the major HVAC appliances in my house, followed by (literally) a roof on top this fall.

My roof came in nearly double what I planned, but that was because the first estimates were foolishly optimistic and I kind of figured that out when someone who actually knew their stuff took a look; I had to do what I had to do to get the job done right. Thankfully it's done right, but in the process I pretty well deleted my savings account. If it's not there for a leaky roof, I don't know what it is there for, but it also didn't help I changed jobs this year with a mandatory several weeks off pre-onboarding.

I'm looking at a $500 tab for the next year of hosting all my stuff, which I could usually scoff at, but this year has been exceptionally cruel on the budget. I've never actually directly asked you dudes to chip in, but if you can, it would mean a lot this year. I already looked at getting enough upstream bandwidth at the house but it's not happening right now; Comcast would want me to give up my customer owned modem with no rental fees in exchange for any more than 40MB up, and that's just plain not happening.

I've never outright asked for help with server expenses for the hyphen, which in addition to lolz, hosts PVM service manuals, and a copy of the entirety of BeOS software in existence (seriously, that isn't a joke). Some of you have generously donated in the past and it was/is sincerely appreciated. If you can help, my paypal is just this username @ gmail. It might not accept gift payments, so don't pull your hair out trying if it won't let you. If you can't help, well, I totally get it.

Know the feeling. Had to replace my hot water heater and 4 appliances this year. Between that and a $8k trip to Japan. the Xmas savings are a little sparse this year.

Don't use the hyphen but happy to chip in a couple bucks anyway.

What is this hyphen you speak of isn't this place the only hyphen there is?

Host broke my DNS today, some sites are still up. Working on the rest.

I didn't need their help changing IPs (which was forced anyway) and their automated script messed up the dns zone that controls my nameservers. Most of my domains are down until my fixing their mistake permeates service provider DNS caches 😞

Running BIND or PowerDNS is fine, and I have always run my own nameserver; this was a case of human (or programmatic) error destroying SOA for the domain.
