This finally came out a little while ago for those who didn't know, finally providing a hardware-accelerated emulation of games like VF3, Scud Race, Daytona 2, Sega rally 2 etc.

It's very preliminary, Scud Race is the only game I've tried that has the graphics 100%, and there's no support for analog controls, but now that it's actually out there it should see a lot of improvement within the year, hopefully leading to wheel support and all that.

It's more of a curious novelty than anything effectively playable right now (though you can sort of hack it around a track) but nonetheless it's quite a big emulation hurdle that seems to be well on it's way to being jumped now.

Thank you very much for posting that. This is great news. I can't wait until we're able to play some VF3tb!

I thought this had been in MAME for awhile. I remember playing Scud Race five or six years ago at like, 1 fps

what the hell, no PPC version?!? Model 3 uses a 603e which is much like a G3 and equal to everything older ppc apple used.

someone should make this happen, all graphics are already in OpenGL.

Model 3 was so powerful. SO fucking powerful...

The Forest Dome track in Daytona USA 2 was so ahead of it's time. It was 199-fucking-8 and until Outrun 2 or something like that we didn't had that much details anywhere else.

A dreamcast port would have been called "shitty port"

I already have the Rom(VF3) and I'm not trying to be funny either. This is wonderful!

well tbh it would probably not run very well on older PPC systems.. Speed is unstable on my dual 2.53 intel. Plus obviously there is a large difference between what speed a system runs at and how much CPU power is needed to emulate it.

And yeah setsuna I'm taken aback by how good the graphics were on the thing, even on the xbox version of outrun2 where they had a daytona USA 2 bonus track, it was missing all the cool animations like the big red spider shooting lasers from his eyes, bats flying around, etc.

I had the cab until last week... :oh_no:[

CRIMINALLY underappreciated game, very deep and varied gameplay.

Graphics are still pretty sensational, also....

wrong dude, would probably run very well on ppcs given you have a nice graphics card. The current emu runs a poor implementation of ppc emulation along with model 3 emulation. In a ppc system it would be unnecessary, only model 3 emulation would be needed as both platforms share the same cpu.

Then program it yourself. I saw similar posts on this dudes youtube page complaining about how the Gamecube with it's PPC CPU should also be able to run it and the fact that it was being made for an Intel was some sort of sacrilege.

I mean, how many people have a PPC PC running these days?

I'm glad he's making this run on intel and not wasting his time with something else.

I know you're just making a point, but who cares?

We should all be dancing in the streets! One day soon, we'll have perfect emulation of SGT and Daytona2 that we can play on most PCs

One of the first things I did on the internet back in the 90s was search for a video of VF3 - I'm not sure if I found it immediately, but when I finally did see some footage, it was mindblowing. This was, of course, back in the day when SEGA's hardware was about three to five years ahead of it's competitors.

Model 3 was the most cutting edge hardware sega would ever have. After that, the gap between home, their competitors and the arcade closed significantly.

I miss the real SEGA. :(

I've looked at the code, but I have zero experience in replacing the ppc emu calls to cpu calls.

The dolphin is a different issue, the developer made all the graphics emulation with directx calls, so first you have to tackle all that replacing with OpenGL calls.

there are millions of ppc machines out there, xbox360, PS3, Wii, ppc apple and ppc amiga. Don't you think those would be good targets to run an emulator?

I can tell you will have to wait a lot more the way things are. If it was first coded in PPC only having to deal with model 3 emulation and after push a PPC emu for a intel platform on it, the dev process would be much smoother.

Sure, there are millions of Power PC machine out there, but the developer of SuperModel wants the pride of as many people as possible enjoying the fruits of his labour. X360, PS3 and the Wii are hardly open and making an accessible emu for those systems probably is not worth the effort. The last PPC Apple was released in what? 2006? Maybe the dev process would be smoother, but I think the goal of this project is to preserve these games in a form that is the most compatible with most of the PC architecture out there.

I think it's a noble task and I'm glad someone with the knowledge is doing it on Intel.

Got to say it again - looking really forward to Daytona 2 - even if I have to wait. We're closer than ever.

Rade, Power Edition works with just some minor gfx glitches if you just wanna see how it runs. Can't wait until this thing gets better speed, sound, and I can play it with my 360 controller though..

Also noteworthy is that DEMUL has posted a bunch of WIP shots of model 3 stuff (and Cave SH-3) for their emulator, that one is turning into quite the beast, they take a long time on dev cycles but each update is big

I went in your thread and read and had to just leave without posting cuz it actually hurt me. I fuckin love that game so much. I'm so tired of today's games and when one less gem like that is gone it sucks.

But yeah even many hardcore VF fans don't appreciate 3 that much, everyone always brings up 4. I guess because 3 was the weird one out of the bunch. That Evade button kinda made people go "huh?". As much as I rant and rave about Tekken, VF3 to me is what made Tekken the way it is today(or the way it was before it got wack). Tekken 3 took the VF3 movement formula and took away the evade button and stepped up the graphics.

To this day VF3 remains my all time favorite VF game. I can still pick up and play it like it was Super Turbo or KOF 98 where most have just left it in the past.

I have some old Hardcore Gaming videos of VF3 that show K-stepping and "Uramawari" techniques. I was watching them earlier today and thinking I should probably upload these to youtube.

Who remembers the VF3 Maximum Battle international tournament? I've watched this video so many damn times.

Just watching that video of SM3 VF3 makes me sad that the DC port wasn't better. Looks so damn amazing!
