So it came to be that i have a little sound
problem with my mvs cab. It sounds exactly
like an mvs board in a jamma cab. (mono)

The cabinet is a dedicated Snk, with 2 speakers.
Can anyone tell me what wrong?
Thanks for reading anyway.

I have a kind of similar sound problem. Its probably totally unrelated but I'll throw it up here anyway. I have a super nova system with a mini 1-slot installed on top. With some MVS stuff (Shock Troopers I think was one) the sound will come out of all of my surround speakers. Others play through the fronts just fine. Obviously the receiver is set up the same way each time. Are some titles sound roms programed different?? I cant imagine so because all of the rom dumps I have on the PC are the same.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

The later one slots are mono as far as I know, unlike the earlier larger boards which have a balance control pot.

I have an old one slot but since i have it
in a jamma cab, thats ok. (damned thing only
have one speaker, and i dont want to alter it)

My new cabinets board is a sixslot, not sure if
its an older one, but it sounds like shit mono.
It was that way when i got it home. Im to embarrased to mention it to the guy that sold me
it. Where is this balance control? It is not
mentioned in the manual.

Is there something else i can check? <img src="graemlins/help.gif" border="0" alt="[Help]" />

Its a slider pot next to the volume pot. Front of the pcb if you take the slot as the back.
For more MVS info go to <a href="http://www.mindspring.com/~briggsx/hardMVS/" target="_blank">http://www.mindspring.com/~briggsx/hardMVS/</a>

The 1-slot I have is model MVH MV1C and is dated 1999. I dont have a manual for it but the super nova system has stereo rca outs. Do you know off hand if this one is mono? Also, that still wouldnt explain why some games sound different than others. Are some games maybe mono??

Thanks for the help. :p

Yes they are, but most are in stereo, will have to look into the specs of your board :)
I have a MVS-1FZS which is the later real compact board, its mono as far as I can work out.
Have you been to Briggs MVS hardware site

<a href="http://www.mindspring.com/~briggsx/hardMVS/" target="_blank">http://www.mindspring.com/~briggsx/hardMVS/</a>

Some good info there :)

Thanks for the info ttooddddyy, but that doesnt
do the trick. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

There is no balance control on my board that i can see, nor does my manual help. Is the six slot supposed to have one? I cant seem to find anything
about sound on Briggs site at all exept for the
explanation on jamma differences.

I could stand the sound being mono, but it sounds
like half the sound channels are missing.
Anyone <img src="graemlins/help.gif" border="0" alt="[Help]" /> ?

Ok, first things first.

1) Is the sound coming out of both speakers mono, or just one speaker?

2) If it is just one speaker, is the other one blown? Swap the speaker connections to test it.

3) Have you checked the wiring? If this is a new cab and you have not had it sounding any other way, check to see if the wiring is correct. The wiring diagram is on my site at:

<a href="http://www.mindspring.com/~briggsx/hardMVS/Manuals/Jamma2NeoGeo4SlotPinout.pdf" target="_blank">MVS Wiring</a>

Post back and let us know what you find.

Forgot to mention that I don't think the 2,4,6 slots have a balance pot, but I could be wrong. Can anybody else confirm?

THANK YOU, Briggs!!!

The sound is coming from both speakers.
When i press the test switch and do the
hardware test, the sound is coming from both
speakers when it only should be coming from
the left or right one. At center mode when
the sound SHOULD be coming from both, they are
both silent.

At a quick glance the wiring seems to
be ok, but i should probably check that tomorrow
when ive had some sleep.

Oh, one more thing. The two sockets for headphones
does not work either. (Tried the volume switch ;) ) Could this be related?

Is my motherboard fucked? <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

I doubt the motherboard is shot.
Briggs, the 6 slot does not have a balance control, and I assume the 2 and 4 slots dont.
I know the earlier larger one slot does.

I really think it is going to be the wiring. Let us know how it turns out.

There is no balance control on the Neo Geo. The second slider control is for the headphone jack outputs.

You are quite correct, sorry for the duff info.
MVS cabs do have two rotary pots for L/R volume inside the door next to the service-test switches.
My cabs do, not sure about the US models ?
