Is VF:Final Tuned Worth Owning A Naomi 2 For?

Picked up a Noami 2 mother board when I purchased a GD-ROM and the only game I am remotely interested in is VF:Final Tuned. Figured I would get that one simply because its the latest release and such. Well I also had a guy offer me a working Naomi mobo, sound amp, and Sega I/O with a Guilty Gear GD-ROM disc, no GD-Rom however, for the Naomi 2 motherboard. I think it's a fair trade, but was wondering if it was worth keeping the Naomi 2 motherboard and just grabbing a Final Tuned disc in the future. I already have a working Naomi 1 setup, but I still need to get a Capcom I/O so I can have 2 working setups. One will be for carts the other for GD-ROM games.

If you are going to get VF4:FT make sure you own a net dimm and have the latest update on it, version 3.17. Otherwise you are going to have problems running the game.

Yeah I read about that. I am assuming its the correct Net DIMM as the seller was also selling a VF:Final Tuned GD-ROM. Waiting on my new cabs to get here to test her out and make sure though.

So other then that what is the general consensus on this game? If it helps I am more into the 2-D fighters but don't have a lot of experience with 3-D fighters, will this game make me change my mind?

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of VF.

Of course, I'm not a big fan of 3D fighters in general.

I would say if you had a big group of die hard virtua fighter fans it would be more than worth while.

but if your just experimenting and your area like 90% of areas has next to zero virtua fighter competition, I would say just grab VF4 evo on ps2 or VF5 on ps3/xbox 360. Unless you are super hardcore you probably won't notice the difference aside from characters and graphics.

But my opinion is skewed as I am broke and any version of virtua fighter 4 is pretty much a game you need to really dedicate alot of time to in order to really find whats special about it. for that you need other people just as enthusiastic as you about the game.

Well I guess Ill just do the trade or sell the board then. Like I said it is the only game I am remotely interested in for Naomi 2 and I don't even have that much interest in it.

I'm quite the Virtua Fighter connoisseur so I think I can help. :)

The fact about Virtua Fighter is it has a steep learning curve. That puts off a lot of people from the start, including others who come from other 3d franchises. If you are primarily a 2d fighting game fan then this game may be a handful for you. And being a fighting game fan you know you will need competition to get the most out of this game.

The first time you pick this game up the first annoyance you will come up on is it's control scheme. it has 3 buttons. Punch, Kick and Guard (yes I know, a guard button!). It's seems unconventional and a nuisance at first but believe me, it's far from that and I dare say it's probably the best setup for a 3d fighter.

The character designs are also fairly lackluster and stereotypical which is another aspect that pushes some people away however that can be remedied with the item customization feature that allows you to change your character's outfits and items they can wear.

Didn't mean to dishearten you but there is good to go ease the pain of the things I mentioned above. This is hands down (all old school 2d nostalgia aside) the BEST fighting game series around. If you put time in this game you will be rewarded. Glitches, abusable moves, horrible matchups/bad tiers and such are not something this series is known for. I think since it's inception it has had the best character balance of any series I've known. The programmers for this game always make sure everything in this game is TIGHT. Movement, move execution and hit detection is always nice tight and responsive.

For experimention I'd actually try to get Virtua Fighter 5 on Xbox360(the latest console version) and then go from there.

Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned is the best 3D fighting game for Naomi period. It is very rewarding after you get used to how the system works and is great to play with friends. I have a Dimm w/ 3.17 firmware if you need it. Also, you will also need the latest bios which is 23605B. Let me know if your interested in the Dimm...... it came from Sega Shed in the UK.

Oh yeah, make sure you have a hi-res monitor for this one.......... and just so you know i'm not bullshitting.....

VF4FT is one of the best fighters ever created but if you aren't hardcore into fighting game mechanics I wouldn't bother and I say that as an expert/fan of the game.

VF5 is horrible. I wouldn't touch it but it can give you a taste of the series.

How big of a difference is it from VF 4 Evo? I've got a Naomi 2 with evo currently. I've got a net dimm that just needs an update, was wondering it the upgrades made that big of a difference.
