LOCATED IN SACRAMENTO, CA 95815

i bought this cab from a local friend of mine roughly a year ago. he purchased it off ebay as a bass fishing cab back in '00 if memory serves. did the conversion himself. bought the jamma harness from river service and everything was done well. he's the man.

in the time i've had it i've done a few things. i got a donor cab from NGT and sacrificed the shell entirely only keeping the innards, speakers, etc. (long story short- river service can eat a dick. where's the sideart and such bitches you got paid) sorry to digress.. so now it looks halfway decent. thanks to jonny419 i managed to source a service door (dollar changer included), the .pdf file of demichris' marquee revision as well as fitting it out with sega locks/keys. he's also the man.

on to the problem- the flyback went bad and some black shit oozed out and corroded a nearby fuse. this seems to be common problem for these cabs- jonny has a dead chassis that suffered the same fate and i dug up a thread over at killercabs that detailed the same thing occuring to stellarolla's cab.

short of a miracle this will be extremely hard to source. probably the only option being to find a replacement. it should be noted that the monitor is semi-flat so chances are if the replacement isn't flat the bezel will most likely need to be shaved down.

i don't have a set price in mind. i'd consider trades- mostly interested in shmup pcb's, possibly anoter cab. post here or pm me with your offers. thanks to everyone who has offered their help and support up unto this point. I AM FAIL

I miss my blast city a lot. It's the baddest looking cab I have ever owned. I love my other cabs, but they eat nuts compared to the Blast City cab. Yes, including the Astro and neo candies etc... Monitors pop up on craigslist all the time. I got a really nice Nanao for my Astro for $180 off craigslist and just saw one for $250 a couple of weeks ago. I have no funds right now or a way to get it back over here, or I'd be all over this....even though I would still have no where to put it, lol.

DAMN YOU SLOW TAX REFUND!!!

Good guy here folks. Buy with confidence.

NGT,

you can't just replace the original monitor with any old 29" Nanao though, example a Nanao MS29-S/T/U has a tube which is more curved so the bezel wont fit (jonny knows this as I believe he has fitted a Nanao MS29-32) so the only viable options are either a MS29-30 (Tri Sync) or an MS29-31 (Tri Sync) or failing that a Sanwa 29E31S (31k only) however, you can fit an entire replacement monitor say something like an FST (Betson or similar) as i've recently done this

also, I have a lead on the Wei Ya chassis I linked to above, i'll be keeping Jonny informed of any progress

I never had a bezel for mine, lol, so didn't know that. Does the monitor still get covered? How does it mismatch? If I had sourced a bezel, I would have ran into this issue. Just wondering if it's WAY off, like gaps on the side or picture areas getting covered etc...or could I of had a plastic shop thin down the bezel in some way to make it fit. I don't have one to mess with anymore, but am just curious.

Also, how much does one of the monitors that fit run? $400-500? Depending on the cost of this cab without the monitor this still might be worth the cost of a monitor. I've seen Blast City cabs run $1200 fully working.

the stock blast monitors are semi-flat (or some such notation) so other nanao monitors curve out more. when you try to place the bezel on that monitor, it hits the face of the monitor well before hitting the clip points on the cab. i flipped the monitor mounts to the back of a nanao monitor and added washers to push it back into the cab even more and i still can't fit the bezel without dremmeling the plastic down.

it's kind of a hard thing to describe with words and i'm too lazy to take pics of the stock monitor in and then switch brackets and other crap and retake pics.

It's ok, I know exactly what you are talking about. I've played with different monitors and bezels in a blast city before...just not the originals. That answers my question too. It's more of a "what would I have had to of done" type of thing. I would have taken the bezel to my local Tap Plastics and had them round it to fit the monitor. I know some people would have pulled their hair out over someone doing such a thing, but I don't care about that stuff as much and would have rather spent $50 for the work than $400-500 for the monitor. Plus, it would be easier to replace the monitor if issues like those in this thread came up down the road.

Thanks :)

i know RingoC can source new tosihba tri-sync monitors but i've always been quoted at like 700 or 800.

i'd actually like to find a naomi uni to chop and tri-sync. (FEEL FREE TO PM ME ABOUT THIS IF YOU HAVE ONE FOR SALE lol) so much easier to fit new stuff to that. the blast is just such a unique cab, i guess that's why i still strive to get a 3rd.

I guess it's all about where you shop and if tri-sync is needed. I rewired my old Blast with a harness for jamma through bypassing the control board that wasn't there and would be perfectly ok with cga and a non-flat monitor with a professionally altered bezel. My lack of caring about things being perfectly original would let me get around the uniqueness of the cab. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Don't get me wrong, if I could have one perfectly original and fully functional, I'd take it. But, I was perfectly happy with what I had. Just broke and needed cash quickly and got an offer, lol. Another will come around some day...when I have the room.

No, I traded my Windy for it. Restored the fugged side art, new panel surround and got the new chassis. Looks like a minter now once I fix the service door paint color with some T-cut. I may part with it in the future though, but for now I need to wire my dreamcast into it for some Hi Rez.
