For you crosshatch issues check this thread

For your sound issue. Are you by chance using unibios 4.0? It has a few bugs on multi-slot boards, one of them being sound is busted if there is no cart in slot 1.

I recommend to my customers to stop at 3.x UniBIOS.

Check continuity between the top and bottom boards through that connector by the battery to see if the corrosion has caused problems with the top connector causing no signals to get through.

Thank you 🙏. Yea I’m using 4.0 bios ..
So I should leave a cart in slot 1 then test slot 2 ?

How do I do that ? If I can’t toggle slots ?

I have a good 4 slot and cabs side by side .
I could check them live but. I fear shorting something using this approach .

Just considering purchasing a in curcuit logic tester ..

I have had a work ram error

Ok …. Got sound on 1,2 & 4 Now
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👌
Slot 3 seems to be being skipped…

I didn’t know until now leave the board to run and it toggles through the games ..

Ala attract mode I guess for the arcade machine ..

I will clean slot 3 some
More .. but as I’m keeping this 4 slot for my self I’m all good …

Another note ..
Mgs5 copy cart anyway .. attract mode
I have all sound .. in game only one channel but I know neo isn’t jamma on the sound so maybe I’m having only one Chanel in game ? And demo …

I think this 4 slot is ok ..
Seems your right about the 4.0 bios and a cart in slot 1 ….
If I just allow it to toggle through I get sound fine …

If I Chuck carts in slot 2-4 I will get no sound …

I’m calling thos one good 👍👌and it’s a bios thing …

Moving on to the next 4 slot

But I cannot get them to see a cart ?

I am stuck at cross hatch 🐣

diag bios wont be able to help you with crosshatch unless you have a special cart that allows it to run tests against the program rom area of the cart.

I would however advise looking at that thread I posted above. It provides things you can do to debug a crosshatch issue without that cart/board.

Can I buy one of these diagnostic carts on this forum ?
I might have one, but it's more of a luxury item that someone that repairs a lot of boards might want/need. I would honestly just start by going into the memory viewer, scrolling down to address 000100 and providing a picture as well as what game was in the slot.

I have 30 mvs singles
3 4 slots
2 slot 2’s

don’t think I can get to memory viewer
I can clear ram
Sound test
Input control test etc ?

How did you get cart ?
Could I get one ? Same way you got yours ?
Thx 🙏

What I’m doing is cleaning ..
Deoxit

Removing the batteries
and repairing traces
And burning diag bios & razoola bios ..

I have had some work and some not ..
I want to keep progressing forward ..

I tested all 5v points middle 4 pins on the cart slots …

Is there another line I can check for continuity from slots to bottom board that may be a cause of a lack of connection to top boards slots /carts ?

After all cross hatch is just the bottom board being unable to read the Carts

crosshatch on unibios allows you to go to the memory viewer.

The output on that last picture is showing data starting from address 0x01e0d4 in puzzle bobble's program rom instead of address 0x0000d4. This would imply you have numerous address lines (A13 to A16) either floating or stuck high. The program rom address lines run right next to the battery.

I would check for damage from battery leakage and verify continuity between all the via's and the CN10 pins they connect to. There can be battery leak damage under the connector.

Yeah, you'll only have Left audio and miss all the sounds and music from the right channel. You can get an adapter to plug a stereo capable MVS board into JAMMA and hear all the sounds.

BIG TIP: You can plug a stereo MVS board into JAMMA OK. You CANNOT plug a JAMMA board into a stereo MVS wired cabinet. If the audio chip doesn't shut down, it'll fry.

Stuck on crosshatch is because of the battery damage to those traces that run next to it. One side of that connector to the top board passes the Address Bus from the main CPU to the top board for accessing carts. The other side of the connector passes the 16-bit bus data from the ROMs to the CPU. If those lines are interrupted by corrosion damage then you're stuck.

Can I have continuity but still be buggerd ?

Pics of slots 1234 now to follow
image.jpg
Every slot says same
image.jpg

Pic of battery area image.jpg

Even the worst looking trace tests good for continuity …
So if these are bad …
I can jumper them ?

Also just rattling ideas off now but could I not have enough juice ?

I cannot get my psu past 5v with this 4 slot

I have a hard time believing you have continuity on those traces, that first one nearest the battery appears completely gone. What points are you using when testing it?
