They let Teddy Hart out of jail again for some reason.

He showed up to the GCW shows in the front row with no mask this week. Then last night he crashed an ICW: NHB show where he was removed by security.

Then there's a video going around of him standing in a parking lot outside with one of the indie wrasslers from the card threatening to beat the shit out of him.

Teddy Hart is either a crazy lunatics', self destructive, criminal, disconformant, one man wrecking crew.......

Or part of the most elaborate work in professional wrestling history.

WWE WrestleMania 37 PPV Results: 4-10-21

Results courtesy PWTorch.com (direct link to Keller's real-time report).

As mentioned...rain delay (a first for WrestleMania).

(1) BOBBY LASHLEY vs. DREW MCINTYRE – WWE World Hvt. Title match

Drew McIntyre made his ring entrance. (It’s appropriate he’d be the first wrestler to get a ring entrance, as he is the one wrestler, more than anyone, who I think people will think of as having carried the burden of the challenges of wrestling during climactic year of his career in fan-free venues.) Drew was amped up and let out a smile as he seemed to be relieved to finally be in front of fans. They utilized augmented reality graphics as part of Drew’s entrance to add to the atmosphere.

Lashley and MVP walked out next. Drew paced aggressively during ring entrances and didn’t take his intense stare off of Lashley during ring introductions. It’s been a while since looking at fan signs was a thing. Cole talked about the importance of the WWE Title for over the decades. The bell rang 45 minutes into the first hour of the broadcast.

They locked up. Drew overhead tossed Lashley and gave him an “up yours” arm gesture. They exchanged punches mid-ring. Drew clotheslined Drew over the top rope to the floor. Drew went after him. Lashley took control and threw Drew into the barricade. Back in the ring a minute later, Drew took over and went for a cross armbreaker. Lashley powered out of it and pounded on Drew on the mat.

Lashley went on sustained offense with a series of power moves and some near falls. Drew avoided a Hurt Lock attempt and made a comeback with some hard elbows in the corner. He then flapjacked Lashley and scored a two count. Drew set up a top rope superplex, but Lashley knocked him off balance. They both sat on the top rope and exchanged punches. Drew applied a kimura up there. Then he leaned back and overhead tossed Lashley to the mat. Drew looked to the crowd, then charged, but Lashley gave him a one-armed slam. Lashley pounded his chest. Drew kipped up. Lashley looked shocked. Drew said, “Bring it, bitch.” Lashley punched away at Drew, but Drew came right back with a belly-to-belly and a Future Shock DDT. He delivered a second DDT. Then a third. He made the cover and scored a near fall at 13;00. The ref seemed to be counting two counts faster than usual. A “This is awesome!” chant rang out.

Lashley rolled to ringside. Drew leaped over the top rope and flip dove onto both Lashely and MVP. He climbed to the top rope and leaped at Lashley, but Lashley caught him and gave him an overhead suplex and then face buster. He went for a Hurt Lock, but Drew charged into the corner and ducked, sending Lashley into the turnbuckles. Lashley charged at Drew, but Drew applied a sudden kimura lock. Lashley teased tapping but reached the bottom rope after a dramatic 20 seconds.

Lashley charged at Drew, but Drew lifted his boot. He headbutted Lashley, then set up a Claymore. MVP yelled at Drew to distract him briefly. Lashley then avoided the Claymore and applied a Hurt Lock. Drew flailed and struggled. He faded. He dropped to one knee. Drew stood after a few seconds. The crowd cheered. Drew kicked off the turnbuckle, but Lashley held on. Drew began to fade again. The ref called for the bell.

Cole commented on a replay of MVP’s distraction leading to the sequence that doomed McIntyre.

WINNER: Lashley in 19:00 to retain the WWE Title. (****)

I have to think that finish was part of building Lashley for a match with Brock Lesnar more than it was any kind of no-confidence vote in McIntyre. Really good match. Smart not to have that match last, though, if they were going to do a tired, cliched “distraction finish.” The crowd was behind McIntyre and there wasn’t a sense, at least on the broadcast, that Lashley had a significant cheering section. Social media posts indicate, though, that in the area, the crowd was cheering both wrestlers.

(2) WOMEN’S GAUNTLET TAG MATCH – Winner Gets a Women’s Tag Team Title match on Night 2

Naomi & Lana came out first. Then Billie Kaye & Carmella came out second. Cole called them a make-shift last second tag team. Cole and Corey Graves called this. The bell rang 11 minutes into the second hour of the event. Naomi threw a barrage of kicks at Carmella to start. They showed Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax watching in the back. Kaye rolled up Naomi, and Carmella pushed on her back with her legs to help add leverage for the three count.

ELIMINATED: Naomi & Lana.

Riott Squad came out next. A couple minutes in, Ruby landed a top rope senton to Billie Kaye as Kaye was on top of Liv. That was good for the pin.

ELIMINATED: Carmella & Kaye.

Out next were Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose. Rose slipped and fell on he way to the ring. She got right back up. (Titus was the happiest person in the building.) Cole said it’s been raining and it’s slippery. Graves said he’s wearing sunglasses at night, and that might have played a part. As Ruby and Rose fought at ringside, Dana overshot a top rope flip senton on Liv, then went for a cover. Liv reversed her into a small package for the three count. Hamilton mistakenly announced Riot Squad had been eliminated, but corrected himself seconds later.

ELIMINATED: Rose & Brooke.

Tamina & Natalya came out next. Ruby rallied a few minutes in against Tamina, then landed a senton off the top rope onto the back of Tamina. Liv made the cover, but Tamina kicked out. Liv cried out in agony, perhaps a bit melodramatically. Natalya hit a Hart Attack clothesline on Ruby. She was about to set up a sharpshooter, but instead tagged to Tamina. Tamina then landed a top rope Superfly Splash for the win. (Say what you will about Superfly Snuka’s real-life legacy that has wiped him from references on TV by WWE going forward, but it was a cool moment to let Tamina finish a match at WrestleMania with her dad’s signture move.)

ELIMINATED: Riott Squad.

WINNERS: Natalya & Tamina in 14:00 to advance to face Baszler & Jax tomorrow night. (*)

(This was what you’d expect. Rapid-fire non-stop action with some overly ambitious and sloppy spots mixed in. No surprise Natalya & Tamina won given how they’ve been protected and featured in recent weeks.)

(3) SETH ROLLINS vs. CESARO

Seth made his ring entrance first. Then they re-aired the political ad spoof that aired on Smackdown the prior night that Seth produced to try to demean Cesaro. Cesaro exploded at Seth at the start with a running uppercut. After more offense by Cesaro, Seth rolled to ringside. Seth yanked Cesaro’s arm over the top rope, then climbed to the top rope. C0le said Cesaro can’t do the Cesaro Swing if his arm is weakened. Cesaro dropkicked him off balance. Cesaro shook out his arm. Seth countered Cesaro into a bucklebomb and scored a two count. Seth pounded on Cesaro’s arm. Cesaro fought back and landed a European uppercut. Seth avoided a second one. Seth caught up with Cesaro on the top rope and landed a superplex into a Falcon Arrow for a two count.

Cesaro threw a barrage of uppercuts at Seth a minute later. He then put Cesaro in the Cesaro Swing and did nine revolutions before stopping and shaking out his arm. He applied a sharpshooter. Seth grabbed the bottom to force a quick break.Cesaro went for a running European uppercut in the corner, but Seth moved. Seth then landed a springboard flying knee and a clothesline. Next, Seth landed a 360 degree tornado splash off the top rope for a near fall. Cesaro countered Seth and landed a quick Neutralizer for a near fall. After the kickout, Cole said Cesaro was beginning to doubt himself.

A couple minutes later, after more back and forth actions and more two counts, Seth yelled that he survived the Neutralizer and the Swing, so “I am a god!” Cesaro came back with an uppercut to counter a Stompt attempt, which was cool, and then an airplane spin of Seth without using his arms. Cole said he calls it the UFO because he does it without arms. Then he did another Cesaro Swing that went around 23 times, according to Cole’s count. He said that broke his own record. He then a hit a Neutralizer for the win. Graves said the fans are standing, but so is the locker room, as he has earned respect for years and years of hard work. He said this could be the first of many big wins yet to come.

WINNER: Cesaro in 12:00. (***1/2)

(That’s a big win for Cesaro. His first WrestleMania singles match ends with a clean win over a former WrestleMania main event. The crowd ate this up start to finish and treated Cesaro like a star. It gave off a real sense, based on the overall presentation of the match, the finish, and the commentary that Cesaro is headed for a sustained big singles push this year.)

(4) THE NEW DAY (w/Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston w/Big E) vs. A.J. STYLES & OMOS – Raw Tag Team Title match

Styles started the match, and Kofi and Xavier battled him for several minutes. Kofi blocked Styles from making a tag a few minutes in. He left the rin gand ran around to his side of the ring and tried to tag in Omos. Xavier blocked him, knocked him back to the floor, and kicked him. Saxton wondered if it’s possible Omos will never get to tag in. Xavier scored a two count on Omos. Xavier climbed to the top rope, and Styles sat up and smiled and leaped over to tag in Omos. Xavier screeched when he realized his miscalculation.

Xavier and Omos squared off. Xavier dropkicked Omos. Omos no-sold it and made a face. Kofi tagged in, but Omos blocked him and just flipped him over with ease with just a swing of his arm. Omos stood over him, and they used low camera angles to accentuate his size. He tossed New Day into opposite corners and then threw running elbows at both of htem. He then gave Xavier a backbreaker. He applied a claw to Xavier as he was bent backwards over his knee. He picked up Kofi with one arm and gave him a one-armed slam. Styles snuck in a flying Phenomenal Forearm on Kofi without legally tagging in. Omos lifted Kofi, had a few words for him, and then gave him a high double-arm slam. Omos put one foot on Kofi’s chest and pinned him. Cole called it one of the most incredible first-time performances in WWE history.

WINNERS: Styles & Omos in 9:00 to capture the Raw Tag Team Titles. (*3/4)

(They must have big, big plans for Omos because that made a gigantic statement that size beats all. I’m glad they snuck in a Phenomenal Forearm so it wasn’t just Omos no-selling and decimating New Day single-handedly, but still. It’s difficult to star-rate a match like that which was built around some early good action with Styles, but the entire focus was always on Omos. Omos has good presence, but he didn’t do much. Running from one corner to another the most athletic thing he did. He had appropriate facial expressions and timing for what he was asked to do, and Kofi and Xavier were certainly good sports in selling for him like that to make him look like the Next Big Big Thing.)

(5) BRAUN STROWMAN vs. SHANE MCMAHON

Shane danced out first to his music. Lawler defended Shane and said people are underestimating him. He was mainly on commentary to make jokes at Braun’s expense, it seemed. As Braun was about to enter the cage, Elias and Jackson Ryker attacked him with a chair, focusing on his leg. Then they threw Braun and Elias handed Shane the chair before the cage door was locked shut.

Shane bashed Braun with the chair for a minute until Braun blocked it. Shane pushed through, though. He called for the door to open and tried to leave early. Braun stopped him. Shane climbed up the cage. Braun grabbed him and pulled him down. He yelled he was “about to get these hands!” Shane kicked Braun’s leg and then danced around the ring. Braun limped around as Shane continued to kick away at him.

They battled back and forth for a few minutes. Shane landed the Coast to Coast. Ryder and Elias climbed the side of the cage to try to help Shane over the top. Braun charged and knocked Elias and Ryker off the side of the cage. Shane fell back into the ring.

Shane and Braun climbed to the top of the cage. Shane grabbed a tool box that was up there and smashed Braun in the head with it. Braun fell to the ground. Lawler asked, “How ironic was it that Shane McMahon used a tool box to hit that tool Braun Strowman. Shane climbed over the cage and began climbing down. He put his hand through a cage opening to taunt Braun. Braun grabbed Shane’s hand, then broke the wall of the cage, peeling it away. He pulled Shane back into the ring and pummeled his ribs.

Braun stood on top of the cage and grabbed Shane by his lapel. He threw Shane off the top. Shane flipped mid-air and landed hard. Cole said Braun just yelled, “Who’s stupid now?” Cole said Shane could be broken in half and he hasn’t moved. Braun got back down and yelled at Shane that this is for every person who has ever been called stupid. He then gave Shane his running powerslam for the win.

WINNER: Strowman. (**1/2)

(That’s pretty much what you’d want out of this match. An unfair advantage for Shane early to explain him getting in any offense. Shane using a tool box to his advantage. Shane getting cocky. Braun using brains and brawn to stop Shane on the verge of victory. And then a big Shane bump followed by a clean win for Braun.)

WWE WrestleMania 37 PPV Results: 4-10-21

Continued from previous post.

(6) MIZ & JOHN MORRISON vs. BAD BUNNY & DAMIAN PRIEST

About 20 bunny mascots walked to the ring. Miz & Morrison live rapped their “Hey Hey, Hop Hop” hit single. Miz and Morrison danced with the bunnies. Quite the scene. Damian Priest came out next. Then Bad Bunny then made his entrance by riding on top of a semi truck trailer to the arena. It sounded as if he got mostly loudly cheered by the audience.

Booker T joined the announcers on commentary. Cole noted Bad Bunny wrote a song named after him. Bunny tagged in early. There were Von Erich and Rock & Roll Express-like squeals from some fans in the crowd. He danced around the ring with his fists raised. Miz put his hands behind his back and mocked Bunny and dared him to take a shot at him. Bunny popped Miz with a right to the side of his face. They replayed the impact in slo-mo.

Miz went for a hold, but Bunny landed a spinning elbow. Booker T said that is the training kicking in. Bunny tackled Miz with a double-leg takedown. Miz took control with a kick. He pounded on Bunny with some forearms and raked his face across the top rope. Bunny came back with an armdrag. Miz rolled to ringside. Saxton said he looked embarrassed.

When Miz returned to the ring, Bunny scored a near fall with a crucifix. Bunny extended his arms and yelled out in celebration as Morrison gave Miz a pep talk. Miz offered a test of strength, but then kicked Bunny in the ribs. Bunny ducked a Miz clothesline and then took Miz down with a spinning head scissors. Miz staggered to his corner. Morrison tagged in. Bunny landed a running elbow to the side of Morrison’s head. On a second charge, Morrison lifted his elbow. Miz took a shot at Bunny from the ring apron. Miz tagged back in. He raked his fingers across Bunny’s face and locked him on the mat with a chinlock. Bunny surprised Miz with a sunset flip. Miz popped up and gave him a boot to the face. Then he DDT’d him. Miz dragged Bunny to his corner and kicked Bunny to the floor. Morrison rammed Bunny’s head into the announce table, then threw him back into the ring.

Miz tagged in Morrison. Morrison stomped Bunny, then did a Spinarooni. Miz took a cheap shot at Priest. The ref stopped Priest from entering, then gloated in the corner. Bunny eventually made a comeback after more gloating by Miz. He delivered a DDT off the middle rope. Both Miz and Bunny were slow to get up. Bunny hot-tagged Priest in.

Priest went to work on Morrison and Miz. He landed a leaping spin wheel kick on Miz, then kicked away at Morrison. He played to the crowd and got cheered. He landed flying elbows in opposite corners (he watched Omos earlier!) He gave Miz a chokeslam. Morrison broke up the cover. Priest and Bunny then gave stereo suplexes to Miz and Morrison and scored two near falls at once. Only one was official, of course. Miz and Morrison rolled to the floor. Bunny whipped Priest into the ropes, and Priest dove onto Miz and Morrison. Priest encouraged Bunny to try it. Bunny climbed to the top rope and leaped onto both of them on the floor.

Priest entered and set up an inverted DDT, but Miz landed a Skull Crushing Finale. Bunny made the save. Morrison yanked Bunny off the ring apron. Bunny delivered a Canadian Destroyer. Miz was wide-eyed. The announcers gasped and gushed. Booker called it a Bunny Destroyer. Saxton said Bunny is performing at a higher level than he’s seen from someone from outside of WWE. Bunny leaped off the top rope and bodypressed Miz off of Priest’s shoulders and got the three count.

WINNERS: Bunny & Priest in 12:00. (**3/4)

(That was fun. Bunny struck just the right tone with a mix of confidence and wide-eyed amazement as a fan that he was in this situation. Miz and Morrison get a ton of credit for their role in all of that. Priest was barely in the match, but he got a significant rub from just being out there in a high-profile celebrity match compared to whatever else he might have been involved in otherwise at this stage of his main roster run. Bunny put in the work and it showed.)

(7) SASHA BANKS vs. BIANCA BELAIR – WWE Smackdown Women’s Title match

Belair came out first. Then Sasha. Ring introductions took place 18 minutes into the fourth hour of the show. Belair gave off a positive vibe in her entrance. Sasha played a strong heel, giving off a vibe of being completely full of herself. Banks got a lot of cheers, though. Belair began tearing up and crying when the bell rang, clearly feeling the emotions and enormity of the moment.

They shoved each other at the start. Belair went for a standing moonsault, but Sasha avoided it. Belair landed on her feet and spanked herself to taunt Sasha. Sasha dove through the ropes at Belair at ringside, but Belair rolled through and picked up Sasha, then pressed her above her head, climbed the stairs, and threw Sasha into the ring. Sasha pulled oh Belair’s hair and then threw a series of kicks to take over control of the match. She scored a two count after the flurry of kicks and a knee.

Banks climbed to the top rope. Belair slammed her hard to the mat off the top rope. Sasha rolled to teh floor and grabbed Belair’s hair again. Belair yanked Sasha into the ringpost. Sasha charged at Belair at ringside, but Belair moved. Sasha crashed into the ringside barricade. Belair then gave Sasha a delayed vertical suplex. That was crazy impressive. Belair did a kip up and a running standing shooting star press. She speared Sasha in the corner seconds later, but the ref scolded her for breaking just before the five count. Sasha made a comeback with a boot, but Belair ducked Sasha’s charge and face planted her. She followed with a 450 splash attempt, but Sasha lifted her knees. Both were down and slow to get up at 9:00.

Sasha took over briefly, but Belair caught her and powerbombed her. She lifted her and powered her down again and stacked her shoulders for a two count. Sasha powered up and smashed Belair’s face into the mat. Sasha leaped off the top rope with a frog splash for a two count. Graves said Sasha seems frustrated with her inability to solve her challenger tonight. Sasha turned it up a notch and threw Belair into the ringside steps. Graves said this is what Banks needed. Back in the ring, she went for a Bank Statement, but Belair fought it. She did lock it on, using Belair’s hair for extra leverage during the set-up. Graves said there is panic in the eyes of Belair. Belair rolled through and grabbed onto the bottom rope to force a break. Sasha wrapped Belair’s hair around the bottom rope and then kicked away at her. Sasha snarled toward the hard camera.

Banks went for a double-stomp off the top rope, but Belair avoided her. Belair then kicked Banks as she charged again. She leaped off the top rope and landed a 450 splash for a near fall. Belair reacted with dismay. Cole said she had regain her emotions. Graves said he dreams were just shattered before our very eyes. Belair yanked her hair out of Sasha’s hands and whipped he with it. It made a loud noise. Sasha avoided the KOD and then went for a Back Stabber. Belair countered with the KOD for the win. Cole said Sasha kicked out at first. There wasn’t even an inkling of a kickout. Fans erupted with celebration. They showed her father, mother, and brother almost leaping over the barricade in celebration.

WINNER: Belair in 16:00 to capture the Smackdown Women’s Title. (****)

(Really good four-star match. I’m surprised they didn’t have more time, but I wonder if the storm delay caused this match, among others, to be shortened.)

NJPW has gone off the rails
Now Yano has proposed a ‘Creation of Darkness Blindfold Match’. Distinct from a ‘traditional’ blindfold match, this bout will start with four blindfold hoods on each of the four ringposts around the ring. A competitor is only able to defeat their opponent if they can blindfold them first. Should a hood be secured on an opponent, usual rules apply to pinfalls, submissions, knock outs and countouts.

EVIL has his own dark twist, proposing the first ever Darkness Match. In this ruleset, the first three minutes of the match will see the lights turned on and off at thirty second intervals. From the three minute mark onward, there will be thirty seconds of darkness every three minutes until a decision is rendered.

WWE WrestleMania 37 PPV Results: 4-11-21 (Night #2)

(1) RANDY ORTON vs. THE FIEND (w/Alexa Bliss)

Orton came out first. They showed Fiend at the start of a long tunnel. As he walked, he healed and lost the burns and charred remains and became “normal” again. Then Bliss danced to the ring. A gigantic Jack in the Box was rolled to ringside. Bliss cranked the handle and out popped Fiend, no longer burned to a crisp. Orton looked up at him and breathed deeply over and over in anticipation. He took a running leap off the Jack in the Box onto Orton in the ring. He hit a uranage, then leaned upside down in the corner, then charged after 20 seconds. Orton rolled to the floor to regroup. Fiend went right after him. Orton dropped Fiend back-first on the announce desk, but Fiend popped up and applied a Mandible Claw. Orton pulled himself free as he rolled back into the ring. The ring was lit in red throughout

Fiend stared down at Orton, but Orton took control. He upkicked Fiend and then delivered a draping DDT. He stomped on Fiend’s hands, then punched away at him. Fiend no-sold it and stood and made grunting growling noises. He clotheslined Orton and then landed a running crossbody. Fiend went for a senton, but Orton moved. Orton threw front kicks and delivered another draping DDT. He pounded the mat and set up an RKO, but Fiend countered with another Mandible Claw. Orton dropped to his knees. Fiend set up Sister Abigail, but suddenly fire blasted from the turnbuckles. Bliss on the Jack in the Box began profusely leaking or sweating black liquid. Some fans chanted “Holy shit!” That distraction led to Orton hitting an RKO for the three count. Fiend and Orton looked over at Bliss. The lights went out, then back on, and everyone was gone.

WINNER: Orton in 6:00.

(That was pretty flat and anticlimactic. No wonder they didn’t bother producing much hype for it this past week on Raw and Smackdown. For those who hated this whole thing, there’s relief that it’s over early. The in-ring payoff to this was so insubstantial, it’s going to work against anyone investing the Fiend character going forward, I think. I suppose on the bright side, in the interest of keeping the show of reasonable length, and given that anymore more added to the match might be seen as belaboring the point which was getting to that weird finish, I’m not sure I ultimately would have voted for it to go longer.)

(2) NIA JAX & SHAYNA BASZLER vs. NATALYA & TAMINA – WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match

Natalya & Tamina came out first. The announcers commented on clips of Natalya & Tamina winning the Gauntlet Match the previous night. Baszler and Natalya opened against each other. They exchanged brief mat holds. Natalya leapfrogged Baszler and then went for an early sharpshooter. Baszler reached the bottom rope to force a break, then tagged out to Jax.

Jax called for Tamina to enter. They battled mid-ring. Tamina went for a bodyslam, but Jax resisted. Jax took control. Natalya entered and together they backdropped Jax. Baszler, meanwhile, blind-tagged in and kicked Natalya in the head. Natalya and Tamina dropped Baszler onto Jax. Baszler caught Natalya with an inside cradle. Baszler and Jax beat up Natalya for several minutes until Natalya avoided a charging Jax, who went shoulder-first into the ringpost. Natalya took Jax down with a discus clothesline. Jax came back and slammed Natlaya for a near fall. Tamina was late with the save, so Natalya just lifted her shoulder.

Baszler controlled Tamina until Tamina came back with a Samoan drop for a near fall. Tamina climbed to the top rope, but Baszler got up and tagged in Jax. Jax then set up a top rope Samoan drop on Tamina. Natalya broke that up. Jax leaped off the top rope onto both Natalya and Tamina, who had to cartoonishly stand there and make faces and wait for her to leap.

Jax and Tamina battled next. Jax said, “I’m King Kong, bitch. What’ve you got?” Tamina then bodyslammed Jax for a two count. The crowd popped. Tamina went for a top rope Superfly Splash, but Jax moved and Tamina crashed on the mat. Both were slow to get up. Tamina crawled over and tagged in Natalya. Jax stood and tagged in Baszler. Natalya knocked Baszler to the floor and went for a sharpshooter on Jax. Cole said Baszler is legal. Natalya applied it mid-ring. Since Jax wasn’t legal, Baszler entered and put Natalya in a Kirafuda Clutch. Natalya’s arm went limp. Graves praised the “respectable performance” of Natalya & Tamina.

WINNERS: Jax & Baszler in 14:00 to retain the Women’s Tag Team Titles. (**1/4)

( Pretty good tag match, actually. The length was ambitious at best, but the crowd was into the match, seemingly more for the spectacle than having a favorite team.)

(3) SAMI ZAYN (w/Logan Paul) vs. KEVIN OWENS

JBL joined the announcers on commentary. Sami made his ring entrance and enthusiastically introduced Logan Paul. Graves said finally someone understands Sami. Cole brought up how Sami trying to visit Logan at his boxing gym didn’t go well. Logan hugged Sami when he entered the ring. KO made his ring entrance and went right after Sami. Graves said Sami wasn’t ready for that. Sami briefly fought back at ringside, but KO took over again. He landed a cannonball and climbed to the top rope, but Sami rolled to ringside. Sami set up a move on the ring apron, but KO elbowed out of it and then suplexed KO on the ring apron. They showed Paul gasping at ringside. Graves said call off the match because nobody’s getting up from that.

They battled back and forth for several minutes, hitting signature spots and scoring two counts. Sami gave KO an exploder suplex into the corner. KO avoided a Helluva kick, but Sami landed a quick Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Sami landed another exploder into the corner. He landed a brainbuster for a two count. Fans chanted “This is awesome!” KO countered Sami on the top rope and landed a fisherman suplex onto the mat. They showed Logan looking deflated at ringside. KO ran at Sami in the corner, but Sami landed a Helluva Kick. KO caught a charging Sami with a superkick, then another. Owens had some final words for Sami, and landed a Stunner for the win. Logan shook his head at ringside. Graves asked, “How will the world ever know the truth now?”

WINNER: Owens in 10:00. (***1/4)

(These two are good for three stars almost no matter what. They didn’t get enough time to have a truly special match, but everything they did was good. Given their history, it’s cool and fitting they got to have this match in this setting.)

(4) RIDDLE vs. SHEAMUS – U.S. Title match

Riddle threw early chops and then applied an early sleeper. Sheamus back Riddle into the corner to break free. Sheamus caught a leaping Riddle and slammed him hard to the mat for an early soft two count. A minute later Sheamus climbed to the top rope. Riddle quickly met him up there and gave him a belly-to-belly to the mat. Both were slow to get up. Riddle landed a Bro-ton a minute later, then landed a brute-force power suplex for a near fall.

Riddle threw some kicks to Sheamus’s head, but when Riddle went for a handspring move, Sheamus landed a knee to Riddle’s head and scored a two count. Sheamus landed an Alabama Slam next. They fought on the ring apron where Riddle shoved Sheamus into the ringpost. Riddle suplexed Sheamus onto the ring apron. He landed a running knee to Sheamus’s chin, then flip dove onto Sheamus on the floor. Riddle landed a twisting splash off the top rope onto Sheamus for a near fall. He shifted to a headlock and armbar combo on the mat. Sheamus lifted Riddle and slammed him to break the hold. Riddle applied a quick sleeper. Sheamus reached the bottom rope, then pounded away at Riddle.

Sheamus looked around like he was enjoying himself. He lifted Riddle onto his shoulders and climbed to the second rope. Riddle broke free and set up a move, but Sheamus blocked it and lifted Riddle back onto his shoulders. Sheamus landed White Noise, followed by a flying knee for a near fall at 10:00. Sheamus then kicked Riddle out of mid-air after a second rope springboard flip dive and scored a three count. Cole said it was creative offense by the now three-time U.S. Champion. Riddle sat up a bloodied face as Sheamus smiled down at him with the belt.

WINNER: Sheamus in 11:00 to capture the U.S. Title. (***1/2)

( Once these two landed on the same brand, this was a match I said I was looking forward to seeing. It didn’t let me down. They both like physical fights. Sheamus has always welcomed hard-hitting matches and sometimes delivered unwelcome stiff offense. Riddle comes from MMA and is used to getting hit and dishing it out. This was real looking a lot of the time.)

WWE WrestleMania 37 PPV Results: 4-11-21

Continued from previous post.

(5) BIG E vs. APOLLO CREWS – Nigerian Drum match for the Intercontinental Title

Wale performed Big E’s entrance theme live. Apollo then came out with a giant stick weapon of some sort. There were drums and cymbals at ringside. Cole said this is no holds barred. They each hit each other with kendo sticks to start. Big E dove through the ropes and speared Crews off the ring apron hard to the mat at ringside. He scored a two count back in the ring.

Big E set up the base of the steps at ringside. Crews recovered and gave Big E a Death Valley Driver on the ring apron. He scored a two count. Crews grabbed the top of the ringside steps and brought them onto the ring apron. He threw Big E onto the base of the steps, then lifted the top part and threw them down at Big E, but Big E moved out of the way. Big E then gave Crews a uranage suplex off the ring apron onto the base of the steps.

Big E set up a table in the corner of the ring. Crews returned to the ring and kicked Big E in the face, then battered him with a kendo stick. He went for a top rope splash, but Big E moved and Crews crashed through the table. Big E gave Crews a Big Ending. A big mystery wrestler entered the ring and beat up Big E. He chokeslammed him and put Crews over Big E. The ref counted to three.

WINNER: Crews in 7:00 to capture the IC Title. (**1/2)

(It was intense for a while, but ended with a finish that made the action preceding it seem more a formality. That said, in the interest of keeping WrestleMania around three total hours, I understand the decision to pack a lot of intense big spots int0 six minutes and then go to the angle with the new wrestler. The longer the night goes, and the more matches that clock in around 8-11 minutes, the more crazy the 14 minutes allotted to the Women’s Tag Team Title match seems, though.)

(6) ASUKA vs. RHEA RIPLEY – Raw Title match

Aah Costello of New Year’s Day performed Ripley’s entrance theme. A ton of pyro and fire shot up on the set for Ripey’s entrance. Ripley looked the part of a big star and the live performance and stage pyro added to her coming across as a big star. Asuka then made her ring entrance. Cole talked about Asuka having a mean streak a mile wide. Cole said Ripley wants to be a different kind of champion, someone who doesn’t fit in because she hates fitting in. Rome did formal ring introductions.

Asuka landed a dropkick seconds into the match. Ripley no-sold it. Asuka fired a barrage of kicks and then rolled up Ripley for a one count. Ripley avoided a charging Asuka and then charged at Asuka, but Asuka moved too. Ripley regrouped at ringside. Asuka kneed Ripley in the face at ringside, then kicked away at her in the ring. She went for a hip attack, but Ripley moved. Ripley took over and applied a body scissors.

A couple minutes later, Asuka countered with a leglock mid-ring. Ripley yelled in pain, but powered up and back suplexed Asuka for a two count. As Ripley methodically attacked Asuka, Cole said this is the pace Ripley wants. Joe said a slow agonizing grind is Ripley’s plan. Ripley dropped Asuka face-first over the edge of the ring apron. The pace here seemed intentionally designed to bring the crowd down before the main event. Asuka came back with a DDT off the ring apron. Ripley beat the count at seven.

Asuka went for a quick cover and got a two count. Asuka applied an armbar. Ripley slung Asuka into the corner to break the hold. Asuka applied it again a minute later, then shifted into an Asuka lock attempt. Ripley twisted Asuka’s shoulders down for a near fall. Asuka threw some kicks at a kneeling Ripley’s chest. Ripley encouraged more, then ducked Asuka’s running knee. She then hit a quick Rip Tide to get the three count.

WINNER: Ripley in 14:00 to capture the Raw Title. (***1/4)

(Good match. I want to rate it higher, but the crowd was pretty tepid and the pace was pretty deliberate at times. I think it was slower by design to give the crowd a breather before the big main event. The finish came out of nowhere which sometimes works well, but given the suddenness of this match being booked and thus a lack of build, even Ripley winning felt less special than it could have. This WrestleMania might be remembered as the night when two long-term future pillars of the WWE Women’s Division were crowned champions, though. If Becky Lynch shows up to challenge Ripley, that could cement Ripley as a huge star, but it could also define her down as a transitional champions, too.)

(7) ROMAN REIGNS (w/Paul Heyman, Jey Uso) vs. EDGE vs. DANIEL BRYAN – WWE Universal Title match

Bryan came out first. Then Edge, who got a big pop. Before Reigns’s music, after Edge’s music stopped, there were boos. Then the music hit and there were boos and some cheers. Reigns walked onto the stage with Heyman and Jey. Reigns raised his title belt in the air and crazy pryo blastedfor an intense five seconds. Greg Hamilton did forma ring introductions. Edge was introduced first to a polite mix. Bryan got a loud “Yes!” chant and cheers. Then Reigns, who was booed.

Reigns went after Bryan at the bell, surprising him with a running forearm. Edge went after Reigns, but Reigns drove his shoulder into him in the corner. Bryan fought back with some uppercuts against Reigns, but Reigns threw Bryan to the floor where Jey superkicked him. Reigns threw Edge to teh floor where Jey superkicked him too. Reigns and Jey cleared the announce desk. Edge attacked Reigns at ringside. He threw him around ringside and into the ringpost. Edge huffed and puffed. Edge set up the base of the ringside steps and gave Jey a faceplant onto the steps. Medics checked on Jey, helping him to his feet.

With Reigns down at ringside, Bryan and Edge battled. Cole and Graves said this could end without Reigns involved. Edge got a near fall against Bryan. Reigns returned to the ring apron and battled with Edge. Bryan yanked Reigns off the ring apron, then returned to the ring and went after Edge, landing a top rope dropkick. He showed fire. Bryan dove through the ropes at Reigns, but Reigns caught him and gave him an overhead suplex at ringside.

Edge and Reigns battled in the ring. Reigns hit a clothesline. Reigns countered an Edge spear with a Superman punch. Reigns went for a spear, but Edge countered with a faceplant DDT. Edge and Reigns speared each other out of mid-air. Both were down. Bryan entered and landed a diving headbutt on Edge for a two count. Then he hit a diving headbutt on Reigns for a near fall. Everyone was down and slow to get up.

Bryan stood and threw Yes kicks at Edge and Reigns, back and forth. He scored a two count on Reigns. Bryan applied a Yes Lock on Reigns. Heyman looked worried at ringside. Heyman encouraged Edge to break it up. Edge broke it up. Bryan shifted to a Yes Lock on Edge. Edge teased tapping. Reigns broke it up. Reigns powerbombed Bryan onto Edge. At ringside, Reigns stood on the base of the steps and powerbombed Bryan through the table. As Reigns gloated, Edge speared him off the steps and onto the ringside mat.

Back in the ring, they battled over a chair, which fell apart. Edge threw Reigns throat-first into the top rope. Reigns gasped for breath as Edge applied a crossface mid-ring. Edge used the chair piece in Reign’s mouth. Reigns entered to block Reigns from tapping out. Bryan applied a Yes Lock as Edge was holding on. Edge and Bryan then headbutted each other. Reigns looked passed out as Bryan and Edge fought each other. A “This is awesome!” chant broke out. Bryan charged at Edge, but Edge speared Bryan. Edge speared Reigns and had an apparent inevitable win, but Bryan yanked the ref out of the ring before he could hit three. The announcers stressed it was legal. Cole said Edge was about to lose it.

Edge bashed Bryan across the back with a chair. Edge had a crazed look. He entered the ring and bashed Reigns and Bryan with the chair over and over. Fans stood at ringside and enjoyed the brutality. “An unhinged Edge!” said Cole. Edge put Bryan’s head on a chair. Then he put Reigns’s head on a chair. The cheering crowd got more subdued. Edge bashed Bryan across the back of his head. Jey lunged into the ring and blocked Edge from hitting Reigns. Edge speared Jey and bashed him across the back. Reigns got up and speared Edge. Instead of going for the pin, he put a chair under Edge’s head. He then picked up the chair and bashed Edge’s head. He then dragged Edge onto Bryan and then covered both and got the three count. The finish came 17 minutes past the end of the third hour of the show.

WINNER: Reigns to retain the Universal Title. (****1/4)

( Edge technically had Bryan covered too. Hmmm. Really good match. This was the match the crowd was waiting for all night. Their reactions made that clear. Edge was mega-over. I think fans are going to want to see a one-on-one match with Edge challenging Reigns.)

Huge bump in the ratings and viewership for AEW with NXT now gone from their timeslot.

The show did a 0.44 rating and 1.219 million viewers, both of which are the highest since October 2019. This is the second highest viewership trailing only the debut episode and it's the highest rating since episode 4.

By comparison, NXT did a 0.22 rating and 805,000 viewers running unopposed for the first time on Tuesday night.

Raw did its best numbers in over a year as well on Monday with a 0.68 rating and 2.026 million viewers. Raw is usually in the low 0.5s.

That was one heck of a tag title match on Dynamite last night. Bucks were far, far better as pure heels than as whiny tweeners and all four of those guys are so darn good. Clever finish, too.

I didn't watch. Dynamite is a bad, bad show overall. Still good to see them send NXT running, though.

Here is the link for the stream for the 500th episode of ROH TV, which premieres in just over an hour:

Right now they're showing a special compilation of the top 10 matches in ROH TV history

Here is the Youtube preshow:

Again, the card is
Jon Gresham (c) vs Jay Lethal for the Ring of Honor Pure Wrestling Championship
Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe

Impact's parent company has bought the MMA promotion Invicta FC.

Invicta was at one point the #1 women's MMA promotion in the world. They started up right after Strikeforce went down and signed much of their best talent as well as international talent. The Invicta world champion was considered the top female fighter in the world until UFC signed most of their roster in one swoop (Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg, Rose Namajunas, Carla Esparza, Cat Zingano, Michelle Waterson, Joanne Calderwood, Claudia Gadelha, Marloes Coenen and Angela Hill). They are still considered a high level promotion but they're not on the level of a UFC or a Bellator anymore.

Still, it's a positive sign for Impact that the parent company is spending on MMA. Wrestling and MMA have always made good shoulder programming. TNA Impact airing as a lead in for Bellator was extremely successful in the old Spike TV days.

They have already announced that Invicta events will begin airing on Anthem's platforms like AXS TV and Fight Network next month.

ROH 500th episode was awesome. Even better than last week.

-Mojo Rawley fired from WWE too
-Jazz retired on Impact tonight
-Nevaeh is also gone from Impact
-Mauro Ranallo will call the Kenny Omega vs Rich Swann title vs title match at Impact Revolution
-MLW is advertising Court Bauer to appear on Fusion next week. Hopefully he finally announces the new TV deal.
-ROH COO Joe Koff has said that his short term goal for ROH is to get all outlets that air ROH to show it on the same night

Lots of notable free agents out there right now. ROH needs La Sombra (Andrade), Samoa Joe, Thea Trinidad (Zelina Vega/Rosita), Allysin Kaye, Chelsea Green (Laurel Van Ness), and Mickie James. Hopefully AEW doesn't scoop all of them up first.

ROH is especially low on women's talent. Their entire women's division:
Angelina Love
Quinn McKay (soon to debut, also host/interviewer)
Sumie Sakai (way past her prime)
Kellyanne (still stuck in Australia due to COVID)
Session Moth Martina (still stuck in Ireland due to COVID)
Vicky Haskins (still stuck in the UK due to COVID; trained wrestler but has so far only managed in ROH)
Amy Rose (trained wrestler but has so far only managed in ROH)
Jenny Rose
Mandy Leon
Maria Manic
Maria Kanellis (manager/authority figure)
Vita Von Starr (trained wrestler but has so far only managed in ROH)

Nicole Savoy and LuFisto aren't on the roster but they were supposed to come in for the women's tournament (they were announced for the one that was canceled due to the pandemic; haven't yet announced talent for the upcoming rescheduled one)

The people behind Women of Wrestling claim to be coming back for another TV season. They had been airing on AXS TV alongside NJPW until Impact's parent company bought the channel and booted them both off. They went dormant after that.

No word on if the new season will be on AXS or when it will film.

MLW's new TV deal has been announced.

They will begin airing on Vice TV this Spring. No word on whether it will be Fusion or a second show, but Vice is an awesome get for them. The channel already airs the wrestling documentary series Dark Side of the Ring, which is the most successful show in the network's history.

I'm upset they released Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, especially after breaking up the Iiconics team for no reason. They were so funny together!
