Curiosity about the name of the game displayed in the gui.. I suppose it is read from the file ..like an header somewhere?
Would that be possible to edit the header in the file pack to display the Japanese title using Kana/Kanjis? (let's forget for a second about the rom CRC)
Would the flashcart support such charset?

Of course the bios will eventually dictate the region, but I guess it would be nice to have the original title for those interested in a full-JPN setup.... priority 4 of course.

Changing the game name in the .neo header doesn't affect the crc used by NeoValidator, it just checksums a few important fields of the header (mainly, rom sizes) and then the rom data itself. Names and other metadata are excluded from the CRC. This is done that way so you can change the name of a game to a different one if you wish, and still knowing if the data is ok.

Currently, the menu only supports the ASCII charset, but it's planned to support japanese charset (only hiragana, katakana and a few kanji like the bios charset) in the near future. There is enough space for it in the graphics rom, that's not an issue.
The main issue here is that japanese chars need to be double height, so handling the game list with mixed 1 line and 2 line height names is a bit more difficult, and we would need to decide if doing it that way, or switching to all double height chars when any japanese name is present, or maybe having both names in the .neo header, and choose if you wish to use the japanese one (with double height for ascii characters too) or english ones.
Also, Neobuilder will need to be modified to add alternate japanese names when creating .neo files.

But yes, there are plans to support japanese names :)

After taking a break from the forums I just finished reading the whole thread... and all I can do is applaud and praise the NEOSD team. You have done this right in every regard. Not only did you make a most amazing product happen that has been every Neo fans wet dream for decades, you also talk and listen to the community. You are awesome.

And of course thanks to Raz for the great reviews.

It's also nice to see how almost everyone posted supportively in here.

Now I need to figure out how to raise €400... might sell the MVS carts I amassed over the last years... wow.

Looking forward to the next steps in this project - shells, stickers (I'm not loving the design yet... the UI and logo Alien^PDX did were great (kudos for having him on board btw.), a more "oldshool"/"pixelated" design would rock and befit the product better... also does the URL have to be on there? Seems kinda cheap to me), Homeversion, software updates, new features etc. I too am in the camp of hoping this will bring some more good homebrew/independent devs to the Neo btw.

I'm very anxious to learn what your future projects might be as well!

This is history in the making. Thanks again to everyone involved, keep up the good work.

Spoiler:
please excuse me while I go wash out my mouth… all this positive talk is against my cynical nature :keke:

Hello,

On the last AES video you can see how shells look like, take in mind that those are preproduction units and final ones will not have some marks those have.
Shells are the same for AES than MVS, we still dont have a shipping date for the shells, monday we will know more, we are doing out best to ship the shells as soon as possible

Thanks

Also, i have talked with Alien^PDX today, we says that he will have the sticker design this weekend (or atleast he is trying to), that you all will be pleased with it, and that he reads this forum ....

Thanks
