Underrated shmups ?

I'd like to mention Lifeforce (NES) (Konami) for shits but that one isn't underrated.

Its largely nostalgia for me however I've dumped $20 easy in that game back in the day. It sits in my Asus eeePC, played by xMame amongst other games. Plays well especially when you tip it on its side in Vertical mode. I still hold the game to a very high regard, and for years always felt that the explosions in the game were the benchmark standard for all subsequent schmups of the day.

Awesome shooter. Finally got my hands on the board. Play as a mech fighting other mechs (maybe a little cliched..) but this game's different from your usual vertical shmup. You can fire in 360 degrees, enemies come from all directions. Locking your shot and strafing is handled like in Shock Troopers. You're also equiped with a sword to slice through enemies similar to Brave Blade. At the outset of each mission you are equiped with different type weapons. Power ups include: health repair, shot charge, plus additional support units that add to your firepower. There's even a part where you can hop on and pilot what looks like a gigantic laser bazooka.

worth a download for sure.

GunNac for nes/famicom given most think lifeforce,gradius,guardian legend,1943 and zanac when it comes to shooters on the nes.

Of corse it didn't help that gunnac came out late in life for the nes.

Avenger is a nice cheapy game for the PCE CD, it is easy to get forgotten with so many big boys on the system.

Gunhed/Blazing Lazers is one that is usually lost to time.

Elemental Master was brought up before. It is incredible. Technosoft did an awesome job with it. Its not expensive either.
