In the storyline, the first King of Fighters tournament was Art of Fighting 2.

Fatal Fury was the second tournament. After it, the KOF series begins (KOF 94 is the third tournament).

4. KOF 95
5. KOF 96
6. KOF 97

KOF 98, as a Dream Match, don't have any value in the storyline.

7. Real Bout Fatal Fury (and Geese's death)

8. KOF 99
9. KOF 2000
10. KOF 2001

And again, as a Dream Match, KOF 2002 don't have a place in the storyline.

Actually, Fatal Fury 2/Special was the 3rd. KOF '94 was the 4th.

Also, AOF 2 and FF1 were only for Southtown locals. FF2/Special was the first to go global, and then KOF '94 was the first to use teams.

Not.

Fatal Fury 2 & Special aren't a KOF tournament.

The FF 2 & Special tournament was called by Krauser "The Sultans of Slug Battle Royale".

Do you have ANY idea at all of how geeky it is to actually know all this? Even worse arguing about it?

No geekier than posting about video games on an internet message board. :P

AFAIK, the connection between FF/AOF and KOF isn't one that should be looked at in some sort of time line.

Art Of Fighting is supposed to take place before Fatal Fury; this is obvious with AoF2, as there's the younger Geese and at the end, he says Jeff Bogard needs to be eliminated. FF takes place at least a decade (or more) later. Initially, KOF '94 WAS the "dream match" between the AoF and KOF characters that began with Geese in AoF2 and Ryo in FFS. Storyline was dropped in favor of the new one created for KOF; if it stuck to it, the AOF crew should be older than they appear now.

Over the years, SNK began to integrate elements from AOF and FF into KOF; we see that Yamazaki has Orochi blood, Ryo likes King, etc. IIRC, KOF 2000's ending, with Southtown being destroyed, explains why Garou MOTW takes place in "Second South" as opposed to the original city.

Anyway, my point behind all this is that you can't really link these games together properly. You have the AOF series, which ties into the FF series, then seems to forget about it with AOF3, and come back with Garou MOTW (Marco/Butt), and you have the KOF series, which takes from both games and goes its own way. Story isn't exactly the strong point of fighting games for a good reason. :P

errr.... you are wrong sir... FF2 is KOF...

Actually AOF2 is not a tournament. The first tournament in southtown is Fatal Fury: KOF.

No... he's right. Fatal Fury 2 & Special were NOT King of Fighters tournaments (it explains it in the instruction manual). And you're right, in that NONE of the Art of Fighting games are KOF tournaments. They were called something like the "Southtown Street Fight". I can't remember exactly. Hey, a really good site for (fan-collected, but VERY acurate) Capcom and SNK information is www.orochi.com (for the SNK section, go to http://www.orochi.com/koffaq/ )

Yeah, I rely on the game manual information.

And in the AoF 2 manual, the tournament name is King of Fighters.
