Yes, Tadaima, indeed you are right. When the game is new, of course everyone is praising it. But once they put some play time in it, they'll find out that it's not really good after all.

Oh so because you were right it means your super super cool snk no1 greatest fan. No game sucks you just gotta know what is good and what is bad, the idea behind 2k1 was original but just didnt work.

I agree with pretty much everything you all have said. I praised KOF2k1 when it came out but that was then before i got over "NEW CHARACTERS :p " and started paying attention to other details

I think and believe KOF03 will hit like
a bomb.
they just cant do anything else.
after 02 the story, chara roster maybe even the
outfits of the charas will make a big
step forward!
i mean an similar step like kof97 to kof99.

Kof 02 will be way better than 01!
thats for sure!
no fucking ratio system junk no strikers
better artworks better background and Great
music!(kyo vs iori track from 99...just awesome!)

so i dont even dare to think of kof03...
rivalising ninja clans, dragon power...uhh yumm!
i cant wait..

the BOMB awaits!...most likely.. ;)

Every 2d fighter is pretty much the same but I love em all.

KOF is no different.
Do want something new.
Maybe they should try Multi Teiered BGs?

i only play kof98 99% of the time in arcades.
i doubt 2002 will have an impact on me...
2001 is fine much better than 2000 despite the music and backgrounds.
2001 is too solid to me its like a cardboard..?!
also characters like foxy and may lee are too strong.

Ah yes, what an enlightened comment.

I also think SF2 and KoF98 are absolutely the same games.

Whatever...

Most of you ppl don't seem to like 2k1, fair enough. Well, I like it. It's neither flawless nor a piece of art, but it's a solid fighter with some really cool new charas.

There are nice gameplay features as well... some say that 2k1 would be too technical, but IMO, all that stuff like wires/counter wires, Angel's Circle Chains, etc. is fun and keeps me coming back for more.

I must have put 100++ hours into it so far, I think that speaks for itself, in either way, doesn't it Bonus! ;)

2k1, I have such mixed feelings about the game. It was the first time that I bought a brand new neo geo cart and shelled out a lot of money, so when I first got the game I was just stoked on it. I played it every day trying to squeeze my 300 dollars out of it. I looked past it's flaws and thought it was just beautiful.

Now 6 months later I don't think it's all that great. When I reach for a kof game to play it's always 95 or 98, I haven't played 2001 in a while.

I agree with everyone else in this thread about the art and music and stuff, it's really not up to par with the rest of the series. I think as a first game for playmore it was pretty good, better than I anticipated but overall not a really good kof.

I think for Kof02 I'm gonna wait a few months before I get it, play it to death in the arcade before shelling out 300 $$ I hope 2002 is good, so far I'm a little dissappointed by the whole no new characters, but the movies look damn good.

who here gets excited about NEW Characters more than new in-game elements or a new interface etc...

I mean personally I love New Characters but KOF'2k2 has me less excited than kof2k1 did (kof2000 was the one that really got me hyped, vanessa omg how i love her).

So do you think overall KOF2k1 was a failure or a good game in the series?

I actually like it now, this thread gave me alot of options to re-consider, but does that mean i think its better than other kofs?

Nope.. in my opinion this is the worst kof there has been, but the game its self is a great fighter

Me! I love new characters more than new in-game elements. Sure it's important to change them, but new characters will make a game looks and feels 'fresher'. And when I say new characters, I meant a totally new one, not just an alternate version of an existing character.

Regarding 2k1, I don't know how to describe it simply. Great gameplay, but everything else suck like shit. Hey, that's actually a simple description of the game from my point of view.

I feel the same. At first i was hooked and it was a pure 10 out of 10 IMO. But i don´know now, i still love the game (as i do with all my KOF´s).

I think every KOF is great, and i could not possibly pick one out as the best or the worst.

Now that i think about it KoF 2k1 is a good game in it's own way. I think in Eloith's desire to make is seem fresh and new I think it left the (hardcore?)fans flying out to the windwhen it made a sharp left. After playing it on my friends aes some more it slowly began to grow on me some more from the music on down.

Yeah the art for it is butt-ass-ugly but hey what can you do besides learn from it and move on? Yeah the music sucks but hell most of the time I mute the tv and turn on the stereo for any game I'm playing. Some of the in-game sprites look tired and lame but if that's one one of the characters you love to use then shouldn't you be able to get over it??

Yeah I love it when they add on new characters to a game, can anyone actually picture Street fighter now had they never thought to make Akuma/Goki? Or if SNK never thought to put in Mai or Kim for FF2?? New characters makes it look so fresh, so clean, I mean my KoF team has gone from Kyo,Heavy D/Mature, Benimaru/Clark,King/Terry to Kyo,Angel/athena,clark/maxima,Benimaru/kim,terry/andy. Now that Mature is back(i miss Heavy D)I can bring back some of the mayhem i use to create at various houses and arcades. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Shouldn't we at least be glad that KoF 2k1 came out at all I mean they could have just said to hell with it and either not make it at all or make another whole new game. So maybe KoF 2k2 will be worth the hype or it may not be, I no longer have a fav KoF anymore, after looking at some of the post and looking back at it I like them all and I'm just happy that KoF 2k2 IS coming out.

Well, 2k1 in my opinion isn't really HORRIBLE, PUKEY HORROR but it does suck in many points...I think the gameplay is good and one or two stages...but the rest of it sucks...the storyline was just kinda random, K9999 acts like a Capcom versus game reject and..I just have to ask, WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CLONE ZERO AGAIN?

Yes, I'm SNK's former boss. I was fired because I gave two thousand million yens to the SNK develoment team in order to revive the World Heroes series and make another episode of Success Joe.

They fired me.

I have had KOF 98 for a few months now. I finally picked up KOF 2001 today. The backgrounds could be better, but I don't really stare at them while I am playing, so I don't really care. This is a great game that I hope to enjoy for years to come. I plan to get KOF 96 in two weeks, and KOF 2000 in four weeks.

Really??? I all ways check out the backgrounds when i play a game to see what's going on. Take CvS 2 for example, it has some of the coolest backgrounds(antartic level)ans the Aquarium level in KoF 2k. But i guess to each his own

I finally got my KOF'01 (a year after the fact) and I'd say it's a good game that concentrates on the meat rather than the fluff. Eolith did a decent job their first time through but there are some things I wonder what the hell they where smoking?

Where the hell are are the counter messages?

Why doesn't Ryo have a C Fireball?

Where is my "Perfect?"

Why did you try to turn Chin into Shun Di?

I could go on forever about the lame asthetics but gameplay is pretty damn good. Lamest thing gameplaywise is 2k1 by far is the hella lame ratio system but overall it still plays like a KOF game. I also love all the new characters and hope they continue to be in future KOFs.

However, after playing KOF'2001 for few days I get the dreaded feeling that it's time to move the series to new hardware. The good ole Neo Geo may not be able to do future KOFs justice and the series is gettin' up in the years. The Neo has been maxed out and it's time to move on. When they have to cut King out of a KOF game (I'm assuming because of lack of space) it's time to pursue some new options.

Yeah... I loved the "London Street"' background, and the temple roof top (boss stage) the best. And, it might just be me, but the backgrounds in KOF '99-2001 were just kinda... bland. Anyone else feel this way?
