So the best pick to help Biden win the election. Not, necessarily the best pick for what more left or progressive Democrats wanted?
If elected I wonder who our Governor will pick to take her senate spot?
Chomsky had a line that relates to this sentiment, where you have to do the calculus of goods and bad in each situation to determine if the progressive stance is good or bad, and that in the example he gave, which I want to think was the cold war, he argued that hard line positions were more strategic for us at that moment.
In this instance, trying to elect the most progressive candidate is an example of putting the horse before the carriage, and right now we should be assembling a team that can repair the agencies of government, re-establish American international hegemony, mend bridges with our allies, and bring back the rule of law. This happens by establishing a competent cabinet, and appointing heads of agencies that understand their duty to defend their agencies, rather than loyalty to the president, and tasked to dismantle each agency (hello, USPS, FCC, EPA, Education, State, CPB, ICE, HSA, DOE, Interior, and our emaciated Smithsonian).
In short, it's not the time for a progressive who will divide the country. And when I say progressive, I mean those who take things way further left than Bernie does. Bernie's positions would probably bring the country together, in terms of decreasing the wealth gap, raising the average standard of living, etc. And we should explore the path to that ideal after Trump is removed.
