Had to move my entire setup this week to do some home improvement, so im a bit slow in playing this again. Haven't tried using the RB to absorb the medals, but the recharge time seems a bit slow.

Also, there's a slight delay between me holding A and the shield activating, is that normal?

yes, there is a delay a couple of seconds I would say, never checked if the little bar In the bottom left tells you, it tells you when it ready to use, I have never used the reflect to collect medals either, will try tonight hopefully

Remember scoring is pretty exponential, small improvements in early stages can double your score pretty quickly. The best advice that I got from this thread was:

Seems like we don't want to point-blank stuff in this game (unlike Giga Wing 1), and instead reflect bullets more from the sides to trigger the medal showers more often.

This and learning when to time the reflect barriers on the first boss helped me a lot.

iam finding it difficult to see what iam doing so different that my scores are so far apart, iam timing my RF more so I can get in and grab the medals as they appear, still plenty of time left to try and improve

First stage, especially the boss, is huge for your overall score. I hardly fire any bullets at the first boss, pretty much take him out with reflect entirely.

usually I have around the 5 billion mark but one I think on my way to my best score I had around the 35 billion mark, I have never been close to this again on the first level

I try your no bullets technique and see how I get on

I'm gonna get in on this month's SOTM. I never played a Giga Wing before, but I recently just hooked up the DC to my NAC and gave it a couple attempts.

I like this game, seems like reflect and medals are pretty much the gist of scoring. I'm going to read through the gameplay a bit more to see what else there is to this game, but I'm diggin' the Giga.

So yeah stage 6. Definitely seems you can't just bomb spam through that boss. The second form just refuses to die.
