For the Springfield XD Mod2, do you think i should go with a 9mm, .40, or .45? My dad gave me his Tauraus 92AF so i already have a 9mm. Should i just keep the same bullet type or is better to have variety.

My philosophy? I like keeping my ammo types to a minimum. I have .38, 9mm, .223/5.56, .22LR, and 12ga. I sold off all ,y other odd calibers a while ago.

Unless you just want different calibers I would just stay with 9mm.
My father bought a Taurus PT111G2 in 9mm and honestly, it's a pretty good gun.
It's small enough to easily carry but big enough to hang onto, it's just about the perfect size.
Sights are decent, second strike in case of a failure to fire, comes with two 12 round magazines & Sig P226 magazines fit & function perfectly as well. Those can be had from 15-20 round capacity.
Holster selection is getting better due to a rise in popularity.
I've never seen my father's have a failure & he's never told me about any.
Best part is they can be had for less than $300. Had I not got my Glock 23 at such a good price I was seriously considering buying one.
He also has a PT92 that's pretty much been flawless.
I have an M66 revolver that's ok, it goes bang every time but the ejector rod occasionally sticks & no one
Seems to be able to fix it.
Anywho, everything I've personally seen & read makes my say the PT111 G2 is a winner.

I try not to come across as too much of a fan boy but yeah...9mm FTW. In my mind, it hits all the sweet spots:

-Controllable? Check.
-Affordable? Check
-Good for both strong and weaker shooters? Check.
-Effective ammo on the market? Check.
-Weapon size + maximum capacity? Check.

With ammo technology being what it is, I just don't see why someone would want another round. There's ammo commonly on the market from 115-147 grain, +P, +P+, JHP, bonded...you name it. Range time is also cheaper which is a huge plus.

I mean seriously, pick your poison:

147 grain:

147 bonded:

Tried and true 9BPLE +P+
http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/50-round-box-9mm-p-federal-115-grain-hollow-point-ammo-9bple

124 grain +P

Flaming hot 127gr +P+

Heavy/fast 147gr +P
http://www.sgammo.com/product/feder...7-grain-hollow-point-le-ammo-p9hst4-high-pres

Every last one of those are superb self defense ammo and all under $30/box for 50 rounds. That 9BPLE at $18/50 is a freaking steal.

I want my next gun to be 9mm. If it were up to me I would have chosen it, but I was given a Glock 42 .380 ACP.

I've got an affinity to 45, since my 1911 was the first gun I bought as an adult. That said, I don't think it's much of a question that 9mm is where it's at for practicality and affordability. When I had my FFL, I would usually try to steer people who were new to firearms toward 9mm unless they already had their heart set on something else.

Not to mention, most of the time, if you buy a 9 and want to play around a bit, you can always go with .40SW or .357sig with a barrel and mag change.

On a different note, I just had a great time a little while ago renting a full-auto 9mm AR. We also rented a P90, but ammo was so expensive, we only shot 6 rounds per person. That super quick burst was cool and all, but having a whole mag to throw down range at a time without a massive bill afterward was a much better time.

Went to pickup my guns at Cabelas & waited 3hrs. I finally was at the final stage & then i was told the whole NICS background went down. People were pissed off, does it usually take this long? Also my handgun, they say i have to wait for 7-10 days delay for background check to come back. Looks like i have to do the whole process over again for my AR556 if the NICS background dont come back up before it closes. So dumb.

That's a bitch. Luckily, in WI, we don't use NICS for handguns because we have our own handgun hotline run by the state. We also eliminated the 48 hour waiting period so you can take the gun home a soon as it clears.

When it was first changed, it was taking about 8 hours, so you could usually come back the next morning. When I put a hold on my dealing this spring, it was about 20 min to an hour or two depending on the amount of checks coming through at the time.

Also, yeah, NICS goes down constantly. I still get emails every time it goes down and then another when it comes back up. If you want, shoot me a PM next time you head out and I'll let you know the status and maybe save you a trip if it's not up.

Montana is the same way you can walk with your firearm in one hour or less.

I work part time at one.
The problem is twofold.
First, they changed the way we handle firearms sales. It was slow to begin with but the new shit corporate has us doing makes it worse.
It also doesn't help that theirs never enough sales guys available.
Second, the "improved" nics check system is as reliable as a Clinton in a truth telling contest.
Working there & getting fast tracked still takes over an hour to get it all done.
Please don't get mad at the employees, I guarantee they hate the way it's (not) going just as much as you.

Maybe its just my area but a lot of the employee at the gun area were really snobish & rude. I had to take a number for them to even talk to me or even for a quick question. Mostly the old white guys. When i was told that it was down, a lot of people were upset & started complaining. The employee that was ringing me up felt bad that i had to wait for so long. I got lucky as he called me up later that night that the NICS went backed up. I got there & he took care of me without having to wait so i ended up going home w/ my Ruger AR-556.

Now i have to figure out what type accessories i need to pickup. Any recommendations/stores

Lot of the guys here come off kinda like that as well. Perhaps it's just a requirement.
It used to be a two person job. The first guy just hooked you on a gun then shipped you off to another for paperwork and payment.
Corporate changed it so now one person handles the whole process, form show to go.
That pissed off alot of the counter staff because now they actually have to do work.
We actually had 1/4 or so of them flat quit the day it was implemented.
We've been struggling to find people to hire who actually know something about guns or at least can navigate the paperwork/computer.
I recommend trying to go in the early/middle week earlier in the day.
The guys haven been hammered all day by know it all's & folks complaining how "cabela's system sucks" when the truth is the number system is the only way to try & keep a lid on what is basically chaos when we're busy.
The guys are worn out from the emotional and mental beat down a lot of guests give them.
But some really are dicks.
Far as accessories, I always recommend at least three things for a rifle.
1. Good iron sights.
2. A good sling. (I like two point slings)
3. A bright white light.
Otherwise stock up on reliable magazines (magpul p-mag & lancer l5 awm are my favorites) and ammo.
An optical sight is nice but I don't think is absolutely necessary.
The rest is preference really.

Like Hellion said...magazines and ammo...plenty of both. Can't go wrong with magazines and ammo. Also like Hellion said, Magpul magazines are good to go and to date, I've yet to have a single problem with one.

As far as ammo goes, in my opinion, here's the deal going:

http://www.sgammo.com/product/223-5...mj-brass-case-non-magnetic-wolf-gold-ar-15-am

http://www.sgammo.com/product/223-5...-fmj-brass-case-non-magnetic-wolf-gold-ar-15-

.31/rd and re-loadable brass, copper jacket rounds. I've also run a ton of Silver Bear but at the moment, it seems to be going for around $.30/rd so give that price, the Wolf Gold is a much better choice for bulk.

A good self defense round:

http://www.sgammo.com/product/adi-o...ack-55-grain-sierra-blitz-king-ammo-aob223sbk

At $11/20rd this stuff is a screaming deal. Those Sierra Blitz King rounds are really nasty and I've had great results for Outback Ammo.

That stuff is explosive in gel block testing:

I've been running $6 a 20/rd box tulammo through mine with no problems, might require a bit more cleaning but I'm saving a lot at the amount I'm buying.

Yeah...that's at $.30/rd...you can far better than that elsewhere. I'd seriously look at that Wolf Gold...a whopping $.01/rd more than what you're giving for that filthy Tula.

I'm buying tula at a physical location minutes from my house though, I should be buying online but honestly I'm bad at gauging how much ammo I'm gonna run through and often find myself needing something now.

Yeah...but factor in tax and you're even higher.

SGAmmo is a great site, and one I've purchased a ton of ammo from. The majority of the time, their shipping fee is $12, which obviously jacks the price. But...get together with other shooters and split the fee. I'll go together with 3 other guys at work and land up paying a whopping $3 of the $12.

If you have the scratch, it's always a smart move to buy a case of ammo.

Because people like firearms and this particular forum is for miscellaneous, unrelated topics. Maybe I don't understand the question.

Because this forum isn't just for Neo talk. It has evolved into a forum for anything.
