If you haven't seen this 3rd Strike semi-finals footage from Evolution2K4 held a few days ago click here: http://media.shoryuken.com/srk-daigo.zip

Daigo (Japan) is using Ken - Justin Wong (USA) is using Chun- Li. For those who dont know Daigo was the 3rd Strike Champion at last years evo and is considered probably number one or two in the world at this game. Justin Wong is the Marvel VS Capcom 2 World Champion.

Simply put - this is the BEST tournament footage I have ever seen for any fighter. Considering that:
1) It is the semi-finals.
2) Daigo has basically zero power left and it is the final round.
3) If he did not parry this super he would have lost.

Basically Daigo parries the ENTIRE SA2 super of Chun Li and on the last hit jumps, then parries then combos him into Kens SA3 super. UNBELIEVABLE!

This video is absolutely incredible... one of the best things I have ever seen in a Street Fighter Game... Daigo is akin to a god.

As I said elsewhere, that takes fucking nerves of steel to actually pull off in a tournament. Fucking incredible. I mean... good god, man.

Anybody who's even remotely interested in 3rd Strike needs to download and watch this vid, NOW.

daigo is a great player,okay

but,as i wrote elsewhere,
if you're the SHOTO KING and one of the best japanese players etc etc etc

then you cant really find yourself in that situation

( 0 vital - 3rd round - decisive match )

against an american mvc2 fanboy

havent seen the full match,
but i guess that chun was all throws and pokes

waiting for the moment to crouch mk > dm

oh well

J Wong(Chun Li) = Turtle player

They said that a few times in the vid, this was the 3rd round of their 1st match, he's a good overall player, it seems he plays everything that's 2D Capcom that has a comp scene in the states. I think he's one of the TOP 3 US players in 3rd, and one of the overall best in the states at fighters, I hear he's a good KOF player too, but the Japanese murder the US in 3rd, watching vids from Evo and watching vids from SBO are completely different.

Daigo might have been falling asleep in his chair, he's known to knock out anywhere he feels like ;)

i'm a ts noob,myself

just startin to get into hugo and ken :)

but i think justin felt too safe with that final dm

he should have tried fireball + dm ( much more difficult to parry )

or maybe an unexpected ex move

that dm was too predictable

no?

Yeah, he should have used something else, but I'm sure most players would have done the SA2.

BTW, who else here thinks the guy talking sounds like a dork.

That's right. His Chun did some short twists so I guess he hurriedly tried to pull of the kick DM but failed at first, then another twist, then I guess he thought what the hell and tried to tick Daigo to death - now, I know a few guys who love the DC version's parrying practise mode, and one of the first things they do is to learn how to parry multi-hit DMs, so...

Still, the vid is cool with the crowd cheering at every parry. The most difficult thing in this situation is to stay cool with only one pixel of energy left and a DM coming your way...

I smell the adrenaline... :)

As said earlier whether or not it was a good move on Wongs part to just do the DM, the balls to stand there and parry a whole DM is insane.

Great vid.

Daigo always puts a good show with his Ken.
He can pretty much parry anything you throw at him.
Amazing Vid.

Btw, was KO at this year's Evo?
His Yun in 3rdStrike was amazing last year.

However, cuz I was so used to seeing K.O. own up alot of ppl in Evolution, I was disappointed when I saw a Japanese 5 on 5 Team Tournament when K.O. lost to some Urien player. I don't know who he is, the player's name displayed under Urien's lifeline is in Kanji.

They were playing it on a Supergun, the DC version isn't a good port cause of the timing, and the PS2 version was played, but Urien was missing one of his unblockables(I don't know all the details, I don't use Urien), so they stuck to the SG's.

From EVO2k.com

Daigo Umehara
Tokyo, Japan
Parrying and a reinvigorated dragon punch open the door for Daigo to dominate. He faced some close calls last year, and 2004 will decide whether he's slipping or just getting ready to kick it into high gear.

He has my eternal respect.
