Well...I may have narrowed down the search for my wife's next car. She currently drives this:

Bit late with this one, but does this have anything else in common with the Ford Focus, outside of looking like one?

Yeah, even with a good power/weight ratio, one back wheel isn't going to put the power down and the light weight won't help either.

lightweight, not very aerodynamic....hmmmm.....

I have my doubts on how well planted it would be on the twisties as well....promo vids are obviously making it look like a bullet on rails.
Who knows though....maybe it is?

By what I've read in independent reviews...I guess it handles quite well. Under 200hp isn't a ton for a single, wide tire to keep on the ground. Hell, a street bike is planted with a much smaller tires and afar less weight.

That I know of...absolutely nothing is the same between the Focus and Impreza.

Were now looking at trading the Impreza in on a Forester...

Just put a deposit down on another vehicle. This one is the mid life crisis. 35 is midlife right? lol
More details as I follow through.

Jesus! I had no idea that was an Impreza - by looking at it.

When Subaru stopped making Saloon sports vehicles, they pretty much ceased releasing them over here. Shame, as I actually find their hatchback versions nicer and more tasteful (Subs are a "chav"-mobile over here).

I feel i need to drag this out until the keys are in my hand. Leaving this afternoon to finalize everything. I'm waiting for my wire transfers to confirm this morning, so I'm hoping that clears by the time I'm at the dealership.

I don't buy brand new cars, so it is slightly used. It is german, and the engine is in a different place than most cars. That should be plenty of details ;)

wire transfer, German, different engine location. Sounds like a high end ME or RE config.

An old VW would have been a good twist.

However it is a Carerra 911s. 997 not the brand new 991. Air cooled models have almost tripled in value and I couldn't resist this particular model.

As far as midlifecrisismobiles go, you could do WAY worse than that fucking beast, so congrats!

These air cooled models you're talking about....are we still talking about the 993 turbo or are the normal 993s starting to get a little rich for your blood as well?

IIRC even the ones in the 40k range have quite a bit of rust and wear on them, so I think you made the right call with the 997.

I wanted to get better photo's this afternoon, but it's gloomy today and i drove for about 5 hours yesterday. There's a few bugs on there now.

Two shots from when I picked it up from dealership. They have a giant lightbox over the car to take photo's. I've never seen anything like it. It's the size of a semi trailer.

Awesome pick up man! I picked up a Cayman S a couple months ago, my first Porsche, I am totally in love it. I am not usually brand loyal, but that may change.

I went back and forth between Cayman and 911. I think the Cayman is just as capable these days, but the rear seats in the 911 are just so damn functional, amirite?

Lol yeah, I had a e92 M3 that I traded on the Cayman, I used the back seats in that car about once every 2 months. My wife has a Cadillac SRX so we take that if we need to move people. I never see Porsche where I live, but I did follow a Carrera GTS the other day, it was pure sex. Its hard to tell how wide that back end is in photos, but when you see them on the street they just look nasty.

Sneth, that's bad ass man! Got a while to go before I get my mid-life crisis machine - but I'm really trying to convince my wife that she needs a Hellcat Charger after we trade this trash ass econobox in.

I'm thinking about joining a really cheap local motorsport club - they hold mainly hill climb events, grass racing, that kind of thing. It's definitely at the very cheapest end of the motorsport world and they have a few rules to stick to, firstly the car can't have any after market modifications, secondly you have to have driven in the car to the event that day.

I have my own restriction to add in, and that's the money I've got to spend on the car. I'm thinking maximum £2k (about $3k) but if I can get any change out of that then happy days.

Point is anyone got any suggestions for an entry level, road legal, relatively reliable cheap car I could go for that has a surprising amount of racing pedigree?

My first thought was an old impreza turbo but I know a lot of them have had a hard life so if anyone can think of anything else I'd be interested to hear. Preferably euro market.

MX5? There are plenty of 20-25 year old NAs around in the states that might be a little rough but not thrashed for 3-5k.

I dunno, everything I know from Top Gear tells me there are millions of ratted out TVRs over there for cheap.

Old BMW 3 series?

Hard for me to know what's available in the UK market. I mean, I guess I should tell you to go find a Lotus Carlton or a Escort RS Cosworth for a few shillings.

Not for 70k you can't though.

Me personally though at the price, I'd go for the new Mustang Shelby GT350. It'll probably be a little cheaper than the Hellcats too if you can find one.

Hellcat motor is nice, but those platforms are decade old ass Chrysler junk. Floaty/bloated cars.

Yenko Camaro is out soon too I think. 700HP, much better platform if you can get over the vomit inducing looks of a rolling bunker/pillbox.
