Is $100 reasonable for a local pick up PVM 20m4u in SoCal? Anything to look for when testing it out?

Price seems about average. Really less than average, but you're in the land of plenty. Main things are does it work and are there any burn in or image problems. Bring a test rig to see if you can test and buy if satisfied. Else if it's a shot in the dark, ask for pics

Does anyone have experience with N64 RGB mods? Do the following RGB amps have any differences between them?

RetroRGB:
http://retrorgb.com/store.html
https://squareup.com/market/retrorgb/retrorgb-amp-for-snes-n

ETIM:
http://etim.net.au/n64rgb/

I'd go with the cheaper and USA RetroRGB one but this note on ETIM has me thinking it is potentially an older version? This version has several improvements over the old design. Lower power consumption, correct pixel alignment (looks less blurry), support for different cable types, and the components are all mounted onto a PCB this time.

Picked this PVM-1953MD up this weekend from wataru330:

This guy blows my pair of 1341s out of the water. Who knew six inches could make such a difference? (Double entendre intended.)

i bought a loose jap n64 off ebay with a low serial number, then i used a retrorgb modchip. its much easier and cheaper plus i needed an ntsc console.
theres a chart with serial numbers than tell you what motherboard revision it has i can link you to.

So I ran into a few PVMs.... All are available if anyone is interested in Madison WI. I tested them with a Gamecube VIA SVideo and they look amazing. Don't have the the wires for RGB right now. Shoot me a PM if you guys are close and want to work something out!

I've been thinking about picking up a Sony WEGA set for 480P gaming over component (would be great for PS2/Xbox/GC)...

they seem to be really easy to find in the 32-34" range... anyone run one of these or know if certain models are better than others?

I'd love to find one with a VGA port for Dreamcast usage.

SONY WEGA KD-34XBR960 . 910 is awesome also (I got it). Try to find it with the original Sony TV stand.

Well, I'm finally part of the club! After giving up hope that I would ever find a RGB capable CRT in GA, I finally got myself an NEC 29. Now I'm diving into research on cables and switches. I want to RGB mod my Fami Twin and my PC Engine Duo. Any referrals on a good modder that can do both?

NEC XM29??

I have the XM29+ and it displayed my NES and Duo-R amazingly through composite. My CMVS and SG are S-Video and they both look crystal-clear and hella vibrant.

Just an example. Not the best picture in the world, but it can give you an idea of what this can do with the neo through S-video...

looking at the specs that sounds fantastic

The XBR960 is definitely nice. It's was considered the "Cadillac of HD" during the dawn of HD in the public space, since it did both HD and SD well. As you know, it will weigh a ton. If you really want a nice CRT as well, but even harder to find, are some of the Loewe sets. They made a 38" wide CRT Aconda. Not as sharp, but colors were pretty good. I should have never gotten rid of mine, but the things was just too damn big for me at the time. Fortunately, if you ever find one and can get some people to move it, it's pretty cheap.

Honestly, I feel that for those systems I don't need them. The picture doesn't do that monitor any justice at all. Everything is perfectly clear and the scanlines look fantastic.

The Saturn and Genesis get Scart cables, and they were the best investment I made - 2D saturn fighters in RGB and I can STILL play my light gun games.

The problem with doing NES and Duo-R as he referenced earlier is that those systems need to be modified to do RGB. So it's not just buying some cables like with so many other systems of generations past.
