Drill Instructors

Drill Instructors are women who appear in Metal Slug 1, X, 6 and 7. They serve the role to provide the player with the opportunity to challenge themselves on a specific level aspect. They're always asked personal questions by the recruits, some of which include their phone numbers, hobbies, and their love life.

Metal Slug

A blond woman named Sophia -nicknamed "Sophy"- acts as the drill instructor in this game. She has the qualifications to be a member of the Peregrine Falcons, but her parents disapproved. Wanting to stay in the military, she found herself as an instructor. She states that she's good in sports and cooking but only the first part is true.

Margaret (Metal Slug 2/X Drill Instructor) explains that she eventually retires with her loved one to raise a family.

Metal Slug 2

A blond woman named Margaret -nicknamed "Meg"- acts as the drill instructor in this game.

Margaret's background is that of a loneliness. Her husband divorces her after their son, Thomas, reaches age of five.

Metal Slug 6

There are two ladies in this game named Lilly and Mary. Lilly is a buxom blond woman who wears a feather decoration in her hair while Mary is younger looking with her black hair in two pigtails. Lilly is rather strict who, like previous instructors, only softens for the person she falls in love with. Mary is a clumsy and childish girl who trips over objects frequently. The player can choose either one to serve as their instructor. An instrumental version of Hold You Still! plays during the endings of Combat School.

A perfect clear in Combat School rewards the player with a picture of Lilly, Mary, Eri, and Fio in bathing suits.

Metal Slug 7

The girl in this game is named Cynthia (nickname "Cindy"). She looks nearly identical to Sophia from the first game. It is suggested she is slightly internet savvy because she calls your failures "epic" with dismay, and claims internet and gaming are okay. Perhaps more directly translated from the Japanese version, she claims she doesn't like speaking indirectly. With the more features granted to her in the seventh game, it's feasible she has some of the qualities in the tsundere stereotype.
