The PS2 hardrive is such a piece of junk! You can't even save game save files on it!

You still have to use a memory card, how gay. And yes that is a fact.

I dunno, I heard its gonna be £150 when it comes out over here (UK) and that includes the modem, so its not really expensive at all! Also it will allow the ps2 to do some pretty cool things. Like finally have games that are better than DC games!!!

Their trying to make the PS2 into a do all machine, mainley a PC. If microsoft trys to make the XBOX like that IMO its gonna fail too, im getting a gamecube, since I know it will JUST be a game system.

Think about it, pretty soon your gonna have to buy OS upgrades, virus scanners ect. for your GAME console, no thanks... maintaining a PC is hell enough.

Right on. I obviously already have a PC and I don't need another, and the X-Box and PS2 are becmong PCs. All of that effort should go into games instead, as it will with the Gamecube.

The only way Sony will be able to move those hard drives and modems is if they make you believe you need them. Everytime a new game is released,i.e. Final Fantatrash 685, they will talk about how much the game benefits from the PS2 hd's caching abilites. Either that or they will get straight up sinister on everyone and start programming games to require it. Think about it, some big marquee game gets ready to come out and Sony makes it require the hd, spooky.

If they ever MAKE games require the HD, their gonna fall hard....

I don't think is just the PS2 HDD but the whole Playstation 2 development kit. They where sold out to preorders only and are very hard to get. Man, maybe I should get it!!! Too bad I don't have the "J's" to please <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

I'm all for consoles advancing technology wise, but when it gets to the point of having a "mini" pc instead of a game system it sucks.

Very true. Developers won't make games that require the HDD becuase sales would be lower; not everyone (and probably not most) PS2 owners are willing to pay ~$150 for a hard drive / modem.

Consequently, the HDD will never or rarely be a requirement. And because of that, we have reason #2 why the upgrade package won't sell; it won't be necessary!

It's a downward spiral the Sony is about to be drown in. Stupid. STUPID!

I have also read that games can save to the HD instead on a mem card.
That FF didn't, but they can, & future titles will.

Now take that with a grain a salt, as I picked that up on usenet.

Personally, I enjoy consoles as they have been.
Fun, Simple, runs on a TV.
I don't like all this HD, VGA output, wanna be my PC.
Next thing you know, console games are gonna constantly cause lockups, reboots, lost data. arggh.

Why is it that so few game manufacturers can't just play the old,
"Keep it Simple Stupid" way of doing things?
Damn, I hate it when they make this crap unnecesarily complex.

Yeah! It's like they took the two fiercest competators ever and then one of them goes down and now the team-up together. It's just like Top Gun where Maverick and Ice Man became friends at the end!

I think if Sega really devotes a lot of time and games to the cube that they'll be very dangerous. I look forward to such danger.
