I was walking through the science building at my college today and noticed a big CRT monitor (21", apparently) with a "yard sale" sign taped to it. I wouldn't have thought much of it if I hadn't seen the back: three BNC (I think?) connectors labeled "R," "G," and "B," respectively.
Quite curious about perhaps buying it for use vertically with JAMMA boards (especially old-ish ones like Donkey Kong with a converter or Raiden(not as old)) or using it with high-res boards (new stuff like Arcana Heart, perhaps?).
The model is a Dell Trinitron UltraScan 1600HS, Series Model D1626HT. I've googled it, of course, but I can't make heads or tails of the specifications I can find, or whether or not that information can answer my questions about it.
Those questions are as follows:
1) I know there are different refresh rates for arcade boards; I think I read something about 15kHz versus 30kHz or something. Will this monitor do those?
2) Resolutions are also something to consider, since older boards run at lower resolutions and newer ones run at higher. Can someone explain to me about that, and also let me know if this one can do those?
3) Would it be too tough to run the R+,R-, G+, G-, B+, B- from a JAMMA harness into the BNC connectors on this one? Would it even work?
4) Any other perceived issues?
5) What's a reasonable price for something like this? I don't know what they're asking, but I want to make sure that if it will work, I don't pay too much for it.
Pictures to follow.
