Hey, Fatal Fury Fan #2 and I would like our fellow members to point out to us all the Texan members you guys know of. I have a list I compiled that was kinda Houston-centered but this should help. I got this list both by remembering people in Texas and searching the old forums' members' profiles for "Tx" and "Texas".

I'm gonna paste my file's contents below. Please post people that you know of that aren't on this list!

Just a note: If anyone in Houston is trying to plan a meetup, let me know and I'll help out however I can. If anyone is planning a Texas-wide meetup (but not in Houston), yet again, I'll help however I can.

I have a supergun+MVS setup I can bring anywhere, and other consoles of course.

I just thought I'd let you know, we are going to organize a New Orleans Gathering some time next month which I am hosting with the New Orleans members on this board when I show up in town some time next month. If you are willing to make it, let me know now as we are still going to set up a day for it. Preferably send me a pm and when I am in town I will get in touch with everybody who is going to show up for the best day in which everybody can make it; most likely a Saturday. Pass this along to people who may be interested from Texas. Also if you are going try to bring some gear as everybody will bring some stuff whether it be systems, games, or whatever. Laterz.

I'm about 3 hours from Houston during the summer, 2 hours away during fall and spring semesters.

3-4 hours from Dallas at any time.

Heh, Harlingen? I'm originally from outside of Rio Hondo, you know that little tiny town outside of Rio Hondo, "La Tina"? Yep, I'm from the 2nd brick house there. =)

Is Funworld still barely alive there? Last I saw it, it was in the old Sun Valley Mall, and had like 8 games, 9 of which were broken, oh, and a pool table.

It's a small world afterall.........

I was originally from Raymondville "Gateway to the Valley"......its like the first town you pass entering the Rio Grand Valley. Living there you would need to go to Harlinge, McAllen etc if you wanted a MALL or Movies, games, etc.

I used to chill at Fun World when it was next to that theatre. They used to keep up with the latest neo games (this was back in early 90's).

good times.

yup, Funworld was THE arcade man. No broken games, several MVS cabs, the newest Street Fighter 2 hacks, Mortal Kombat hacks, everything. Jerry (owner) really had it goin on for a long time.

I doubt you'll remember seeing this, but if you ever played Killer Instinct at Funworld, or JollyTime (in brownsville) my initials were "GOD". My friend Rick, myself, and two other guys, Harvey, and Zeke were like the best KI players there for a while.

Fun World, or "Lucky Spin" or whatever it's called, is still barely alive in Sun Valley Mall. Has like two pool tables and maybe 15-20 games. I was actually going there for a while to play DDRMAX2 (it was set at 2 tokens for 5 songs), but they got rid of it so now I have no reason to go there.

Hell yeah! I used to go there with my dad every Saturday back when the place was still called Atlantis, then back in 1992 it was turned into Fun World and got a shitload of extra games. That was such a fun time, especially since in the coming weeks they got those huge 50-inch screen games and 6-player X-Men. Those were truly the golden days of Fun World. Too bad as time went on they took out more and more games, added more and more pool tables, and then took out more "normal" games for redemption games... I could see how it gradually deteriorated....

Dude I remember Zeke and Harvey! Zeke taught me how to do the Handcuffs and Magic Throw on SF2 World Warrior... good times.

I'm afraid that I never got to go to any Brownsville arcades until I was old enough to drive :P I played at #1 Fun a lot when X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Street Fighter 3: New Generation were big.

And if you guys don't remember who I was... I was the little white kid that was at Fun World pretty much every fucking Saturday. And I played everything. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, you name it... I'm sure I saw you guys at some point.

God damn I miss that place. I was barely ever going there at all once the place had degraded to shit, then one day I decide to stop by and I see the message posted that they had moved to Sun Valley Mall... this knot just tied up in my stomach, it was weird... I was sad to see the building I'd spent so much time in as a kid, closed down.... so many memories attached.

One of my greatest memories of Fun World was when they lowered the price on their two Mortal Kombat 1 machines to one token to continue. EVERYONE was playing, there was so much competition that day. I ended up getting a 45-game win streak, and the next week I got a 56 win streak. I was so proud of those two scores, they stayed up there until the machine left.

Miraculously, the Tilt at Valle Vista Mall is still alive, although the only people that go there regularly are MvC2 players. I remember when the place was called the Gold Mine and it was so dark, hahaha. Plus it used those fucking weird-ass tokens that were impossible to get in the slot unless you were super-precise. They were the first place in Harlingen to get Street Fighter II...

Yeah I remember Gold Mine, those stupid slotted tokens were retarded. I applied for a job there once, I think after it changed its name to Tilt, back in 95, but the Manager was a weirdo, so I never went back for my 2nd interview.

edit: OH! And do you remember the girl that worked there while Harvey, Zeke, and Jesse worked there? Jesse was the tall heavyset mexican dude, he was awesome at KI also. Anyway, that girl, man her name was Julia. I was totally in love with that girl, but then she moved away, and I never got to ask her out. :crying:

Heh, i remember a little hottie working there after they got the Stuffed Animal/ Ticket Price/ Hotdog/refreshment booth thingie....lol
I dont remember her name but I DO remember that ass...... :shame:

Goldmine was the spot I first saw Streetfighter 2. The beginning of my love for fighting games. I used to play UN Squadron at Goldmine a lot.

Mr. Gattis (on Ed Carey drive - i think its gone now but not sure) was the first place I saw Fatal Fury. Raidens stage blew me away and i knew I had to have a neo.

Atlantis/Fun World basically was a testing place for my next Neo-Geo game. If i liked what I played, id get it.

When Samurai Shodown first appeared there, my friend and i took a Video camera and recorded ourselves playing it just so we can have something to watch when we got home to remember it. My Neo_Addiction got to the point I was making Tapes (yes......cassettes) of game music like Kof94, fatal fury, Samurai Shodown.........

Ahh man the good Ol dayz.

Nice to see this thread sparking this kinda stuff :). No real coincidence kinda stories here except that there was this one time where myself and Fatal Fury Fan #2 were at the Stargate (this was when I first met him) and we ran into Chris from SNK-Capcom (DILLIGAF on these boards) and we had no idea he'd be there and we were all freaked that someone from N-G showed up on the same day as the meetup and didn't even know it was happening.

Hmm.. the only 'white kid' i can recall was a guy that was prolly about 5'9", and always wore a cap.. Not sure if the cap was red and white, but I think I remember that guy? might have been you.

Man I really miss Julia, long black curly hair, glasses, and a tight little bootie. There was another girl that worked there that was like REALLY hot, but I never knew who she was... I was all about Julia.

I shoulda asked her out, lol.
