Help! Hyper 64/ Supergun troubles!

After finally receiving the SamSho64 kit from Vektorlogic last week my personal collection of Hyper 64 games is now complete - I own all four fighters and four motherboards. Unfortunately NONE of them will work with my selfmade supergun, I get neither sound nor picture (the TV screen only flashes either blue or red when I switch channels otherwise it stays dark). I've owned three of the four Hyper kits since last summer and they did work fine on my candy cab (before the cab's monitor went bust a few months ago, sadly I haven't found the time to replace it yet). As for the supergun, it works flawlessly with both MVS and PGM games/ motherboards. Any idea what could be wrong?

Hi,

check if in your supergun the +5V is attached to all four pins (or the pins are bridged). If only connected to the parts side, the hyper wont boot up.

Dennis, you da man! :D

I've just hooked up the missing +5V, and low and behold, the Hyper games work now.

Thank you very very much for your help!

Now that I have trouble with a Hyper64 and Supergun, I might aswell use this treat.

Now my story:

I received this week my very first SuperGun and a Hyper64 motherbother, and it doesn't work. When I switch the supergun on, there's some weird noise that comes out from the motherboard (tchak, tchak, tchak...) and from the powersupply from the supergun you can hear a noise too (tiit, tiit, tiit...). The tv channel changes quick to AV (where the supergun is connected), but changes back to other channel again. When I take the game out from the motherboard, you can only hear the noise from the powersupply, and when I take the supergun from the motherboard away, you don't hear anything anymore...

Can somebody tell me what's wrong here???

Thanks for the help!

What kind of supergun and power supply you've got? If the psu it's a tabletop, it's possible that it just doesn't give enough power to the mobo.

Precisely as Amano Jacu said, the (tchak, tchak, tchak...) sounds like squegging, which can happen if the psu is not able to supply adequate current.

Remember that a H64 draws more current than MVS boards.

it's one of these:

and on the powersupply is wrtiten:

INPUT: 100-250V~ 50-60Hz 1.2A

OUTPUT: 5V 5A
12V 1A

Hope that helps.

(I'm not a specialist myself)

The Hyper64 needs at least 10A on the 5V supply.

EDIT: Wait, no, that's just the Rev.1 board. I'm going to assume you have a Rev.2 board, or you'd have some extra wires coming out of that.

Hm, from the look from it, I've got a rev 1 version.

But if the NG64 doesn't work with this supergun, then which boards will work with it? (MVS, Atomiswave, Naomi...?)

Since I don't know how to build such an adaptor, means that I'm screwed...

Will the NG64 works with one of these?

Well, if you have a rev1 then, even if it worked, you wouldn't have sound unless you wired an extra connector from the mobo, or soldered a jumper in the mobo to change it from stereo to mono. It's also supposed to need an extra +5V wire but I don't think it is mandatory.

MVS, Atomiswave, CPS2, etc should work OK in your supergun. You could have trouble with a naomi and a Capcom I/O though. About the supergun in the pic, it all depends on its power supply.

The extra 5v connector on my H64 came loose one day. Suffice it to say I had one less JAMMA connecotr than I started with. You ever see plastic just... melt?

Can you explain this better? Do you mean that without the 5V extra wire in a rev.1, there are problems?

You cannot carry 10 amps over the puny wires on most JAMMA harnesses, or even through the JAMMA pins themselves reliably. It gets far too hot and, in my case, even began to melt away. You NEED to hook up the extra 5v connector to your power supply for the board to function.

Maybe I'll get a Naomi Board soon and does anybody know if the Hyper 64 works with it?

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't understand the question. What do you want to make it work with?

Sorry, I meant a Naomi CAB. I wanted to know if a Hyper 64 mainboard works in a Naomi Cab.

Thanks.

The naomi has a JVS interface and is compatible with 31 khz, while the NG64 is only compatible with JAMMA and 15khz. So first of all the naomi cab should have a monitor compatible with 15khz, and the you would have to use some JAMMA->JVS adaptor.

Ok, thanks for the infos, and what about an Atomiswave board? Will it works in Naomi cab?

The atomiswave is compatible with 31khz too, so you shouldn't have problems with the monitor, but its interface is JAMMA so you would still need a JAMMA->JVS adaptor. Sammy announced that they would release a device that does this for the AW but it has never happened.
