apparently it was just announced at Cannes. to be directed by Hong Kong director Gordon Chan (Fist Of Legend) and executive production will be handled by Axis Entertainment which is headed by Joseph Chou. script/screenplay duties going to Chris Chou.

no other information was forthcoming other than the first glimpse of this movie will be available in 2008. oh and it'll be an english language movie.

so will this turn out to be utter shit? taking bets now.

Interesting.

Gordon Chan has done some enjoyable stuff.

Most notably: Fist of Legend and Beast Cops (I love Donnie Yen and have read good things about the TV series Kung Fu Master but have yet to see it for myself.)

Mind you, he also did "The Medallion" starring Jackie Chan, so it's kind of hard to tell where this one will end up going...

Ugh... The Medallion was the worst movie I saw that year. Good thing we snuck into it.

No matter how bad the KoF movie is, I'll probably still see it.

Nice link there, by the way. I thought KoF '86 was pretty stale, but by '89, they hit their stride.

If they get Yuen Woo Ping, Donnie Yen or Cory Yuen to choregraph then it should kick some ass.

The only way a KOF movie could ever be done right would be animated or CGI because the characters would keep their original voices and you could have lots of over the top fighting.

But I guess, let's see what's up with this live action try, as the people involved do have some credentials (I think).

I just hope the overwhelming theme is the feeling of so many real people with stories coming to this big fighting tournament.

there's a few directors I think could pull off a movie based around KOF - personally though, I'd much rather watch a film based around Fatal Fury but there you go.

I'd go with Guillermo Del Toro - I liked what he did with Blade II.

I hope they do a decent job of making the movie. For it to be a great film, would be asking too much. Expect to see the worst....then be pleasantly surprised when it's just OK. That's my motto when it comes to video games turned into movies. Inevitably I'm sure the following blunders will occur during the movie:

* All the characters are wearing costumes similar to their video game counterparts for the entire movie. While I might appreciate seeing Mai in her customary costume at some point in the movie, it would just be cheesy for the duration of the film.

* The film producers will make an effort to include EVERY single KOF character ever known...in the story line...or just in the background. Just pick a few heroes and a few villians; make a good movie first....save a few characters for the sequel.

* Special moves will be reduced to one of of two categories 1) the film maker will avoid all special moves that defy physics or reality, or 2) the special effects for all moves will be EXTREMELY low budget. If you're going to make this movie, make it right....have a budget for special effects. See Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, see Harry Potter....both defy physics and both were block buster hits.

* Neo-Geo Land will be in the background for one of the major fight scenes of the movie. Hey, I want a good movie that can be enjoyed by the masses, not a collage of obscure references that only KOF fanatics can appreciate.

Cynical I know, I just can't stand corny movies. :oh_no:

I had no idea I could jump for joy, yet feel totally saddened at one time.. I'm excited for the movie but horribly scared at what they may do to KOF... I remain hopeful however

My reaction to this news: OH HOLY FUCK.

I'm on the boat of "I'll still see this, even if it does turn out to be a shitty movie".

There is a very small percentage change that this will be any good.

And unfortunately, because I'm a fan who's too loyal to know what's good for him, I'll be there on opening night.

I would rather see KOF cosplayers, playing neo games on a large screen.

Iori and Kyo are long time pals, then they meet Mai, the big breasted chic. They both fight for the chic, and turn into rivals. Then Rugal appears and kidnapps Mai using his faithful henchmen : The Sakazakis and a mind controlled Athena.

Ikari team shows up, all time favorites Terry Bogard and Leona, and draft Iori and Kyo for a solo mission on the Black Noah.

Rugal turns to be Orochi with Magaki's powers, but Iori and Kyo puts their difference's aside and defeat Rugal. Kyo ends with Mai and Iori ends with Athena.

Lots of wi-fu on this one too.

Oh good, a gay porn movie featuring Ash, Shen Woo and Benimaru, I can't wait...

It's going to suck and go straight to DVD like the DoA movie.

KoF: Another Day wasn't bad, the dudes that did that should be employed to make a full length, animated movie with better dialog.
