Why is it that everyone on Shmups.com is such a lame baby?

If you play a game on a harder difficulty or without a handicap they all feel threatened and throw a tantrum like whiny retarded birds trying to protect their nest. I used to think that there were lots of lame people here on the NG boards, but it's really not so bad here. There's lots of drama, but everything stays the same here. "How good are you?", that's the only thing that matters over there. Everything else that you bring up makes them feel like you caught them with their pants down and they freak out.

Over at shmups.com they bitch and whine about collectors buying PBCs, even when these dumb faggots only play roms in the first place. Many of them have this paranoid thought that if you buy some random Japanese PCB from Asia that you're taking something away from some American arcade that they and their snotty nosed 12 year old friends go to.

I could rant for hours about things wrong with all those fine gentlemen over at Shmups, but the worst of all of them are the moderators. You guys guessed it, these guys are such ignorant dipshits that your IQ feels like it's literally going down everytime you read one of their posts.

I understand that many of you are multiple forum members like myself, but I have to double check and make sure that I'm not the only one here that notices how useless that forum is? I like Shmups a lot, it's a shame that there isn't a forum for people ages 13 and up.

I have an account there and posted a few times but mostly keep it at reading strat infos, reviews, faqs, etc., probably that is why I had no probs with other shmups.com members so far.

What's your handle there, btw.?

The Shmups forum sucks. Many of its members surely are a bunch of whiny babies, look up Dave4Shmups' "sigh...maybe I should just leave the Shmups forum" thread and witness everyone pampering him to stay. That sort of thing is pretty common over there.

Before he went crazy or whatever has happened to him, Click-Stick had his own forum on his site which was made up mostly of jaded Shmups and TNL members. Twitchdoctor from Shmups came around one day, everyone flamed him for being a dumbass, and so he went back to Shmups and started a thread about how everyone at Click's board was an asshole. Boo-hoo, whine, bitch. When Kaneda and I replied in that thread, the mods locked it "before things got out of hand". Christ.

Its a good place for score competition and there's a handful of peeps who don't act like everyone else there, but Res pretty much nailed it.

I go there every day to buy PCBs and find out about new releases. I am not sure I have noticed your points; have you got some quotes from there?

Sounds like you're bitching against a ban. Aside that, what's worth of said forum is the strategy section and the hi-score chart. Casually enough, the psychopaths and the whiners never post there.

Spot the hidden meaning!

EDIT: let's add the hardware section, you can get some excellent advice as well.

i will join you in proclaiming the suckiness that is shmups.com forums. [I dig the regular site though, good resource] But yeah, a bunch of whiney girls.

I don't even think the "trade" forums there are any good as most the shit for sale is a duplicate thread from here, as a lot of us go there too.

I still check it on occasion though....but I give it a big turd covered thumbs down overall.

he posted a thread about how incredible his shmup skills were and that everyone was lame for not playing on hard, then he posted his score :kekeke:

..and now hes been in defensive mode for about a year or so i think, guess its starting to spill over on these forums too, who cares?

i have to generally agree... i just joined shmups a couple of days ago, but have been lurking for quite a while... i like their trading section for pcbs, but allot of their threads are annoying. granted, i don't like when shit gets too off topic here, if it hints at getting off topic there, the topic gestapo come out in force.

I don't really like the boards anymore either. There's just a handful of faggot ass bitches on that site that walk in and have to show their ass every fucking thread they get a chance to. Granted, there's a lot of really cool people that post there (Specineff, Thunder Force, Moving Target, etc.) and there are a lot of people genuinely looking for good advice on shmups and all that, but there's just that one group of assholes that have no fucking clue what they're talking about half the time and they just ruin shit for everybody.

And like Rando said, its those same assholes that never show up in high score threads. Why the fuck are they even there to begin with?

It's been a mixed bag for me. I've gotten some great deals off the trade section, and there have been some good members. Although I have seen the usual bitchy members around there. I go around there every once and awhile, but not as much as I used to.

Playing 2d games is so teh hardc0re, jp... i'd like to have a penny for all of the dumb comments about this issue alone, honestly.

Now, not that this site exudes omg hardcore gameplay whatsoever. Actually, i doubt that the habituals (or a certain administrator) have ever played a neo-geo title...

you'd be wrong about the latter, actually.

Yeah there are some irritating people on the shmups forums (not going to name names here), but there are some cool people too. Same goes for this forum. For the most part I don't read all the threads there anyway, but there is one thing that is very clear - in terms of actual gameplay information and friendly competition (through the high scores forum), there's no contest which forum is more useful. How often are actual insightful gameplay tips and information posted here? Very rarely. I posted all my advanced Shock Troopers knowledge here a while back, just on the off chance that someone else who was good at it would be able to take their game to the next level. Nobody really did. Compare the Strategy forum on shmups to the Game Play forum here... again, it's no contest.

I think I just stay here because our drama is more entertaining.

How 'bout a link to that? I have 14 million/billion/whatever (you have 37/mil/bil I think) against the last boss but haven't killed him.

[/threadjack, resume bitching]

soitenly, that's a threadjack I approve of. Keep in mind some of the old posts look screwed up from when they were transferred from the old board, and of course I can't edit old posts...

Yeah, most everyone there HATES Halo or FPSs or whatever. I don't understand it myself. But... whatever. There really are a lot of stupid posts on that site(but thats true of any site), and it does have a lot of people that go around LOOKING to start shit in threads for whatever reason.

And I agree, I doubt half the people here even have a Neo-Geo. :mr_t:

I think the thing is ResO old boy is that you are probably older and wiser than alot of the people on shmups, neo-geo or any other board. Personally I find almost all the threads here go gay pretty quickly and I suppose the same can be said at shmups too.

At the end of the day most topics on the internet read... Post 1: "I like X"... Post 2: "X is shit, you are a moron".

The thing that younger people don't realise is that it really does not matter. Play the games you like playing (or whatever it is you are doing on that forum).

I am at Killercabs too and get VERY annoyed at some of the members that post there that really know nothing about the subject... One guys is a mod at Sega-Naomi and only has a Dreamcast... Where I am leading is that there are some sad idiots that use the internet as their life. The people out there doing it don't have time to spend every waking hour in 20 different forums but the ones that don't have much of a life need a lot of forums to consume so they seem to go on every forum that they have any interest in whatsoever...

For the very same reasons we have some Unrelated- and War Room-only posters here - most of them don't care for games and gaming but just need some sort of "virtual hangout" where they can be as loud-mouthed and badass as they want because of this wonderful thing called internet anonymity.

Mind you, it's the same on most boards I've been to over the past 10 years... some of these flame kiddies know quite well they'd get their rosy asses kicked if they'd behave like that in real life... sad, actually, because this speaks volumes about their mental and social abilities, which of course are almost non-existant, hence the need to compensate the emptiness in their heads by flaming random people in bbs threads.

Bottom line, pick out the good info, take part in worthwhile strats discussions but other than that avoid any "general talk" or other crap threads where the idiots gather by the dozen for some inet dick waving and trash talking.

I registered there about a year ago.

The strategy and hi-score sections are good but the main chat.. no thanks.

I love your strategy posts BBH but it's hard to get any attention with all teh drama around here ;). I saw some people with MSX stage 1 scores in their sig so I posted a video how to get a million points and got like 2 replies or something. The official NG highscore thread also died rather quickly :(.

One interesting thing is that shmups.com, in its first incarnation, was truly a club of old fogeys. It was mostly about people grown up with console shmups (ack!) that was 30+ and spent their time collecting stuff instead of playing it. Bashing the "new shmups from Japan" was a sort of official hobby. At those times, i made some consistent pressure trying to get more serious stuff - and had to wait years, to have Mode7 (a nice guy, sadly disappeared from gaming forums, apparently) to build up the current strategy section.

Some of the most dedicated players are actually "young" (i.e. below 25), so they skipped all the nostalgia phase and only know the modern titles, which are heavily score-oriented. Personally i think it's more or less a good thing, as the whole "omg shmups were good twenty years ago because i'm a nostalgic 30+" is somewhat wonky. As much as i liked some fundamental classics, what has come after that is miles better, deeper, faster, etc. Cult of the past is something for reactionaries :chimp:

...said on a site dedicated on an old "console" (but i really experienced the neo as an arcade machine), with the last title published in 2003 :spock:

i tried very hard to get people into that (i think previously there were only like 6-7 scores up on there). but it just never really happened.

i only go to shmups.com now for the hi-score charts and strategy info. but again, i think it's a *minority* that post in there. (people are probably too busy bragging about which 10-yr-old PCB they've managed to buy with ORIGINAL BOX  )
