I thought SC4 looked astonishing (both visually and design-wise). Definitely a step in the right direction compared to the previous 2 games in my book. It could use some gameplay tweaks and it would have been a solid game.

However, I have always thought the story after Soul Blade was just rubbish. It grew dull and tried with each new release. Same goes with the character designs (with the exception of SC4, which still doesn't top Soul Blade).

I think they should just remake Soul Blade, and give it an improved Story Mode similar to MK9 or something.

I'd agree with a remake of Soul Edge/Soul Blade, but every game is ostensibly a remake of the first game, if you think about it. It's not like the overall story, or the characters, have changed in any significant fashion.

Still, I wouldn't complain if they gave the first game the 'DOA Extreme' treatment and cleaned it up and released it as a DL title or a pack in with SC 5.

The intro cinema to Soul Edge, with Edge of Soul, is still my favorite opening sequence of any video game ever. If any game's opening cinema ever conveyed the adventure, granduer and majestic scope of the plot, characters and world they inhabited, it was that one. I'm not a big fan of J-Rock, but that song, combined with those visuals, just nailed it perfectly.

I never owned a jewel case or original box for my copy of Soul Edge-I got the game in some shady 'off the truck' bargain from a Babbage's employee. Recently, I was at a Disc Replay and saw a copy of the game, with complete box and instructions, for 4 dollars and decided, even though I already owned the game, to buy it just for the jewel case and inserts. I saw that cover and it instantly brought me back to the first time I saw it. In fact, when I get home from work I'm going to cue the game up and watch it, or at the very least watch the intro on Youtube.

Oh, and the series has a mostly killer soundtrack, IMO. Great dueling music that really puts me in the 'life or death' moment of the struggles.

Thats what I'm saying in other words. Lets hope we are both wrong and its not so shit after all. Although I really doubt it ...

And yes, that Greek protagonist lacks manliness. But what did you expect? This game will be so gay that he will fit in just fine!

I wish we were wrong but lets face it, in todays times nobody does anything for themselves, they expect everything to be handed to them. They want to make this game effortless for people who don't play 3d fighters. This'll only continue to make Soul Calibur live in the shadow of Tekken.

And speaking of his manliness, I'm totally not surprised. Manliness has gone out of the window in this day and age. Having boyish good looks has become the standard for almost everything now.

Young male heroes have been a staple of genre storytelling since the dawn of time.

But they shouldn't always look sexless or like girls. I don't object to androginy in young characters in genre fiction.

But there's plenty of room for young characters whose gender you can easily determine just by looking at them, too.

The industry should just do both, as the needs of the character and story merit.

Now, having said that, Greek heroes, due to their various depictions throughout history, are often visualized on the androgynous/homoerotic side. I'll wait to see more of the character before I decide whether or not I think it's more Japanese game developer pandering.

Also again on the original Soul Calibur... Isn't it strange that the 360 Upconverted the game to HD, and somehow it looks substantially WORSE than the DC version? I can remember my Dreamcast hooked up via S-Video (that was a big deal for me back then), or sometimes the VGA box and it just looked stunning. It seemed to push SD visuals to the max, and looked a great deal better than early PS2 games. (Dead or Alive 2 also stunned me, but thats off topic)

Add me to the list of awestruck folks that seriously enjoyed SC and I stopped following the series after SC2 on GC (also believes Link FTW).

So that bitch Hilde with the spear is back, even after they said something about longer ranged weapons? What the hell? Kinda surprised Voldo isn't in yet, but I'm glad that Xian is going to be in the game..via her child, but I always used the single sword characters since Hwang in Soul Edge I'll end up using her in this one.

I really don't know why they skipped ahead 17 years and it looks like none of the females aged at all.

Eh, back to MK9 for me, then!

Hope they at least fix it so I can adjust the number of rounds in ranking matches, otherwise I'm jumping out the ring after that 2nd round lost. :oh_no:

I don't like the look of sc4. It had a sharp foreground and a blurry background. I thought that the distant background had some good detail, but the blur just killed the look.

I hope they bring back the quest modes from SC and SC 2. Those modes were just flat out awesome, and a lot of fun.

Roster looks fine to me so far. Can't wait to see more.

I haven't played a Soul Edge game since the rist SC.

Can you still beat them on medium difficulty the first time you play it?

Bump. Haven't seen it posted anywhere else at NG.com so I'm bringing this one back to life.

Ezio's in SC V and I'm in heaven.

Forget Ezio. *snip*

This character already exists in SC. There's nothing special about his appearance here. He was already in Broken Destiny, so yawn.

He wasn't even the most impressive debut in the PSP version. That was Kratos. Hope they make him a DLC for PS3 version of SC 5.

Ezio is a far more impressive announce than this.

Kilik or GTFO

LOL I can't imagine Kilik not making it in there in some way.
