not meaning to hijack the thread but what is the downright cheapest way of getting into MVS? I was wanting to go the consolized route but if I can save a nice chunk of cash going another route I would be just fine with that.

This is the cheapest in town, costed me less than 40$ in parts and a couple hours of work (not counting the board, that could be a MV1F, controllers or unibios):

However you must live in Europe to be l33t enough to do things this way :mr_t:

For the record, I'm working on properly consolizing it right now.

$325 shipped and you still need a SuperGun?

I'm still taking a look at some shooters but I don't know what would be the best one for me. Though I prefer vertical shooters, horizontal ones are still good. Which one would you recommend if I disliked R-Type for the following reasons:

1. Die instantly in one hit (In some games you have some sort of shield or your weapon upgrades serve as your shield a la Soldier Blade for the PCE)

2. When you die you have to start over from the last continue point instead of just continuing on after dieing (Horrible pain when dealing with bosses).

3. Screen scrolls up and down (I perfer it to be static so you can see all the enemies on the screen instead of going down to see if anybody is there and then being shot)

4. Just plain too hard to have fun. You start to have fun for a while, but then an enemy gets a cheap shot on you or you accidentally barely touch something with your ship and you end up dieing right there and have to start over.

Same thing for fighters (Which one is the best for someone wanting to make a hobby out of fighting gamers but sucks at them); the only fighting games that I've played and liked (Because I could actually do stuff in them) were Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Though the gameplay is nearly all button mashing, it's pretty fun to pull off crazy special moves and what not) and Stree Fighter Alpha 2/3 (The special moves after getting your bar full were actually kind of easy for me to pull off).

I got an estimate on a CMVS from neotropolis and found out that it'd be $500 + shipping, which is WAY too much for me. I think I'll just go the PCB+SuperGun route then; does anybody know where I can get Neo-Geo PCBs (MV-1F or MV-2F)? How much would one generally cost and is there a place that sells covers for them with holes cut out for the slots (I've seen some PCBs sold completely bare and some with a metal cover with slots cut out)? And lastly, does it matter if the harness type is Jamma or MVS (Difference?)? Thanks in advance.

No, the one Norton shows is consolized so it doesn't need a supergun, it's plug and play. You only need controllers or sticks though.

So, that thing on the left is the SuperGun with the video out and what not? What features does that that the system have and where can it be bought?

Just my 2 cents then.

Blazing Star
Strikers 1945 Plus
Twinkle Star Sprites
Aero Fighters 2
Aero Fighters 3

Well, most of those were already on my list, but I'm not looking for something like R-Type, so Pulstar is definetly out. I'd like to know which ones are the best in terms on not being incredibly difficult like Pulstar and offering you a shield (At least as a power up) or lifebar of some sort.

Do they tend to break a lot? The only problem with a consolized one is that it'll look pretty damn ugly compared to the AES...and I've always wanted to own the actual AES one since it looks so damn cool. That's why I was wondering if there are other alternatives to the Phantom-1 and why it is so expensive.

You always could go this route:

Too bad it'd cost too much for it to get consolized in an AES case :(
Well nobody said it would be cheap for starters.

Still mvs carts are cheap and it, pays itself off in the long run.

That's why it's good to have a... Supergun+MVS board as a option also ;)

Good luck.

Well, consolizing it into an AES board should be a lot more expensive than just getting the board and a SuperGun.

Anyways, what is with the lack of reviews for ASO LAST GUARDIAN? In Kiken's video it looked like the only good fantasy vertical shooter, but I can't find more info on it anywhere :conf:

Did you build that consolized unit yourself ($?)?

I believe norton, who first posted the pics, build it.

I'm surprised noone has told him to buy an Xbox yet.

Because in the thread's title it says "using MVS carts", and I still haven't found a way to use MVS carts in my xbox :loco:

If you could briefly describe the steps involved in converting the MVS in the AES case, it would be much appreciated. Is it a matter of just changing the cartridge connector, or do you need to gut the entire thing?

I have a 2-slot consolized MVS that goes back to the mid-90's, long before there was such a word as "consolized."

Nah, only the AES case is used, then you stuff inside a MV1C MVS board.
Of course another option is just to use a AES with a Phantom.

I kind of miss the console look and feel, but I haven't heard good things about the converters.

1. Get a Neo-Geo Arcade Cabinet w/ monitor + PCB

This would be my suggestion. Having an original Neo cabinet in your house is something else, dude. I only have to walk past mine and look and it and I just feel like :buttrock:

A computer tech came over last week to instal our new hub and when he saw the cab he flipped. He asked if he could have a go so I turned it on and said $1 for two credits. :glee:

Of course he paid.

Get a cab dude, you won't regret it. Once you get the cab and motherboard, it's so much cheaper in the long run.

Whoa, you also charge everybody that comes to your house to play any console, or drink a glass of water? I can't believe it :eek_2:

Of course not. But I'll charge a stranger $1 seeing's he is charging me $$$ to set up a network hub in my house. This is no free world.

So now that the facts are clearly in the open... umm, what patronising crap were you babbling? You lost me..
