I would just like to ask all you people WHY you are litterally paying THOUSANDS of Dollars on Home carts, when you can get the EXACT SAME game on MVS and play it on your Home system with the converter? Where do you people get your money?!! Some of those prices are INSANE!! I do admit that I'm cheap but gosh....$300 and up for some home carts? Sheesh...

When Neo Geo first came out most of games were $200. and the system $699.

MVS is a good way to get some games, some rare ones like dodgeball will be over $300

Its your choice - Get homecart with nice inserts and manuals or MVS cart. Collector or gamer.

I only recently had to cough up some dough to get the rare home carts I missed when they first came out. I have bought most of my homecarts when they were new and cost about the same as MVS not $100s more. I am almost happy with my collection and just don't know if it is worth it to me to buy an MVS or converter for just a few un-released games. Just my situation and opinion as you asked. Now if the AES 2 comes out I would get S-Video, Stereo output, MVS capability, and a new system. I WOULD buy one and then get some MVS games at that point.

Yeah, that all makes sense. If I could afford it, I probably would buy them too, because I consider myself a video game collector. I mainly deal in PC-Engine, which is ALOT cheaper than home carts. I would probably buy the home cart for the additional reason that you don't have to keep ripping the MVS carts out of the converter (very annoying).

PC ENGINE/DUO is another GREAT system IMHO Jon. Post anytime you want to talk DUO in unreleated, I love my DUO. Dracula-X and many other Duo games are worth a rare AES homecart as far as game quality, good thing they don't cost as much. Although Dracula-X can sell for $$$ eh?

Yeah, very much agreed. Although I picked up my Dracula X for $150 and it came with the spine card and the Cd and instruction manual were mint. I also have Strider Hiryu, Beyond Shadowgate, Exile one and two (english , both Macross, a Super Grafx with 4 of the 7 games, a burned copy of Sapphire and the ultimate.....PC Engine LT w/a Cd Rom interface and 3.0 card. Oh, did I mention that I have a Duo and a Turbo Express with a TV tuner? Sorry, don't mean to brag. Just love my Turbo.

Well for starters I've been a NEO*GEO AES gamer for many years, long before there were converters. I tended to buy games with they 1st went to market so the prices were not all that different between the MVS and AES cart. I like the AES Manuals and the cases.

On several occations I've attempted to purchases an upright NEO*GEO arcade machine. The prices in my area for such items are highly inflated. I almost caved and bought a single slot in poor conition with visible burn in for over $400 at an Auction last year. But then sanity kicked in and I let someone else out bid me. Whew!

Recently, I've been considering buying an !ARCADE! device. Now I'm waiting to see what's up with the Game Go ad. Why am I considering it now? Well, I failed to buy some of the rare carts that were relased within the last few years. Games like Samurai Shodwown IV, Last Blade 2 and others. It is becoming harder to justify spending $350 or more for these games when I can get a converter and MVS game for that price.

The other reason that has kept me from going with a cabinet is due to space limitations.

I didn't say that you were stupid just that it makes me wonder WHERE you get the money to buy them. If I could afford it, I'd buy them, too!! Believe me!

1.) Carts (Even tho they are HUGE!) take up less space than MVS cabs

2.) Correct me if I'm wrong, but !Arcade's! converter only works on newer model neos??

I like my home cart system, plus i dont buy those $300+ games, the most i have spent on a home cart was, i think....$60. When i get a job(im 15) i might buy the convertor. Or some more expsensive games.

Out of curiosity, what serial # range should I have to use a convertor. My serial # is 029121 can I use the arcade convertor?

Well My rule is homecarts up to $250 or so if i fell they are worth it (unless they are new) then I go MVS. But I have all formats. NGCD, NGH and NGM.

I actually like the MVS better on the rarer carts. One becasue the are not avalable in a true NGH form. and two becuase I can play them on both my MVS and my Home Neo.

When it comes to money I guess the most I spent on a mvs cart was around $250 for a Brand new Super dodge ball.

I think the serial number issue only comes in relating to using the MVS adapters external RCA stereo outputs. Of more importance is the condition of your homecart motherboard slots (the place where the carts plug into the motherboard). My old U.S. home cart system, s/n 13208 and purchased in 1990 back in the beginning, had loose slots which didn't work with the adapter. A much newer jap system I have as a backup (s/n 132xxx) worked almost perfectly with the adapter.

Even if the adapter won't work with your system, !Arcade! can replace your slots at a reasonable price.

BTW, the newer Neos are missing a very simple internal wiring connection that would allow the MVS adapter's RCA stereo outputs to work. Jeff Kurtz always updates the missing wiring when he does mods on home cart systems, these days.

So I guess in summary, if your home cart system has been heavily used and the slots are "loose", then it probably won't work with the adapter. If the slots are still fairly tight, it might work OK.

Yeah I have to agree with you.....no other system has those damn nice snap cases....I love em. I betcha if MVS had the same kinda snap cases....there would be more collectors on that end too......I myself chose MVS because I could get RB2 new MVS for $50....rather than $325-$350 it's going for. ...also don't have to worry about the whole "official" issue. Only thing is bootleg ones. I actually have kinda taken a liking to the plain brown MVS boxes....I like them.....

If I did get into Home Carts (AES) I probably would NEVER play them. I would just collect them as an investment. I have around 45 MVS titles, including the whole MS series which I love! The AES carts I will buy MUST be MINT or BRAND NEW! The Neo-Geo is the ONLY console/arcade to hold any significant value. Plus, its the most fun to play

I might never own an AES system again but I probably will buy the whole MS series on the AES format as MS is my FAVORITE game on the Neo!

SS is my favorite fighting game next to SF2 and MK2

I have a low serial # Neo Geo Gold, which is like 029012, I think. The MVS converter I have for it works great...most of the time. A simple cleaning of the slots solves that problem very fast, and the MVS games work. BTW, I have the old-style MVS converter, not the Arcade one..so I can't play Garou: MOTW, KOF 99 or 2000, etc. Wish I would have known about the Arcade one, but it was not out at the time.
