It is a small market and there are idiots who will pay huge amounts of money to own certain games. Since there are only a limited amount of games, the prices rise on games that are hard to find but are good games. Take Blazing Star for example. It is considered to be the best shooter and can go as high as $1,000 if it is in mint condition. It is very hard to find because most people want to hang onto their copies. People who want it will have to pay out large sums of money or someone else will get it. It has to do with supply and demand. Read about it in economics...

That's about all it is at the moment. Yeah Metal Slug is good. But is it worth $1000+? I think not, but if someone is willing to pay that, then it's their loss and also their fault for keeping the market price so high.

i reckon it would be kinda of hard to make those AES games cheaper...
just because of the market already used to paying high prices for the games and really some people dont know better.
i think the prices will continue to rise over the years, someone might kill a kizuna euro by accident, OOPS lol price goes up again.
its just the the AES is regarded as a Collectors type of thing.
it was expensive from the start and will probably stay that way.

I heard somewhere that ng games are so expensive because the ram is in the cartridge and not the console. Ram used to be very expensive or some thing like that which is why the bigger games were worth more. Can some one confirm this or was that just bull shit.

Yep, that's the reason. Although the bigger RAM being worth more isn't true. MS1 is worth more than MS5. KOF03' more than KOF94....etc. To my knowledge, KOF94 cost $400 at release, as did 03'.

As for the "AES". The console itself isn't that expensive anymore. $150 should get you a non-modded one in good cond. There's also 10+ good titles you could pick up for $60 or less each. So building a basic decent collection isn't any more than buying a new XBOX and 10 new games.

The RAM is in the console/system, not in the carts.

It's the cost of the rom chips innit, they stayed at that price because they went out of fashion/production but were still used in neo games?

And the reason they are still so high is collectors.
Word. If I have a line of 1,000 jackass collectors willing to give me $1000 for my poo, my ass is a goldmine.

Because people are dumb? Neo carts aren't any different to MD or SFC games any more. The whole AES scene really makes me laugh. I mean AES is quite clearly inferior to MVS yet its 3 times the price. You have got to be seriously mental to pay all that extra money for an instruction manual, which you aren't allowed to read for fear of it losing money and an insert. You don't even get blood on non-JPN machines and modding just takes away from the collectability of the hardware.

Uni BIOS 2.1 modded AES > standard MVS.

Add a Phantom-1, and you can play any game, any format, MVS/AES

Mod the MVS and then it may be close to even.

It's those "stupid' AES owners with Phantom-1's that buy out those scratched serial, beat up MVS games on the cheeep cheap CHEAP.

Collecting MVS kits seems crazy to me. Waste of space. Matching serials. Meh.

If you wanna be all anal, go AES. :p

RGB>S-video/composite/ect...

Mvs has much better video, more options, and much less aestetics.

AES is mobile.
which is pretty handy when there's no one to play your MVS with you.

Another factor is how long someone is willing to keep a cart. As a result some games seem rare simply because nobody is willing to sell their copy.
