But I still think that Dracula X for PS has very beautiful 2D graphics. Both in style and technical aspect.
I also considered the Metal Slug Series, but I decided for Dracula X. Though it was a very difficult decision.
(Sorry SNK! I will do penance for this at my
NeoGeo shrine.)

Actually Dampfwalze, Dracula X is a REALLY good choice. Definitely one of the all time 2D greats!

I was more referring to those who picked GGX and other non-SNK 2D fighters.

Dragons Lair isn't a 2-D game, it was Cel Animated

So it falls in the FMV game catagory.

It's just as 2-D as Guilty Gear X, which also is cell animation.

3D is vector based graphics, with or without textures.

2D is raster based graphics, sprite or otherwise.

I was a computer graphics major.

I think it's gameplay makes it a FMV game, like Night Trap. The whole lack of control bullshit.

But that's my answer an' I'm stickin' to it!

Your probly the only person ive ever seen put FMV games in the same catagory with traditional 2-D games...

Anygame that is ALL animation, with limited player interaction (Like Dragons lair) falls into a different catagory than a 2-D fighter, sidescroller ect.

So is The Matrix DVD the best 2-D game ever? I mean it's 2-D, you can move about the menu with your remote control by pressing one button... kinda like Dragons Lair.

So...you're agreeing with me?

I said what defines a FMV game is the limited interaction, check my earlier post.
It's a 2D game, a 2D FMV game.

Irregardless it is a 2D game. The graphics 'engine', for lack of a better word is sprite based.

Make all the dumb comparissons to DVD's you want. The fact of the matter is...we're talking about graphics. That's the whole concept of this topic, isn't it? graphics?
If it was "What's the best looking shooter ever"...then ya got me.

And interesting questions is, why do you care what I say? I didn't try to rebut your opinion, why do it to me? You're entitled to your opinion which is why I'm not saying "You're wrong, PERIOD". Hell think what you want. Go bug MookyStains about his picks.

I'll state my opinion a little later.

The classic Arcade game: Ghouls and Ghosts.

SaGa Frontier 2, undeniably. This game has graphics suitable for framing. And it's just a glimpse at the unlimited potential of the hand-drawn art form...

3D: Ferrari F355 Challenge, Soul Calibur

2D: Guilty Gear X, Street Fighter III, Blazing Star (the Neo-Geo graphics king IMO), Soukyugurentai, Layer Section, Xexex (although it is from 1991, a lot of the effects will leave your jaw hitting the floor).

2D: hmm...

well, i would like to say MvC2, but it has some serious un-touched-up sprite rips from older CPS-2 games... not to say they were bad or anything, but...

Hmm...

MoTW, MvC2(what the hell), SF3 3rd strike, (insert one of the many beautiful saturn games here )
