Is it common for Police to have quotas in the US?

We don't have peace officers, we have police officers.

By and large, the purpose of a law enforcement officer isn't to protect and serve, but to figure out what laws each person is violating and how they can prove it.

I am sure this is an issue in almost all nations, but we are really struggling with the abuse of police power and the excessive abuse of it. Plenty of policemen are good people, but there are some truly power hungry corrupt individuals that are poisoning our system and the system of checks and balances against them is simply broken

Its not even the police we have to worry about now, but the corporations pushing in as well, with all these red light camera and other systems. Getting into some passive OCP stuff going on. And when you read/see stories about people getting tickets from these things for obsurd offenses (minivan caught twice outside a school inspection for going 50 mph after only having exited the parking lot just 100 feet from the cameras) that are fought and defeated. These systems rely far too much on those running it being infallible, which is usually not the case.

I was glad to see that actual some areas are getting rid of them due to the massive backlash. Pretty certain there is no evidence they make driving safer, just more profitable.

I always figured they made things worse because people that drive faster are now just slamming on the brakes to avoid that ticket; they're expecting everyone else to stop in quicker timing than they usually would.

Of the two guys mentioned...one had $50K on him and the other a gun and $13.8K...

I'm sorry, but this is retarded. Just because the majority of money moves online nowadays doesn't mean there aren't people who have a desire/need to still use cash. Besides, it's Nevada dude, I don't think it's a stretch to say this guy won it at a casino like the article mentions. Second guy: does he have an LTC? If he does then what does it matter? If you pull over a chef and find a set of knives in the trunk are you going to assume he's a serial killer? Ridiculous.

Now...I'm not saying that having a large sum of $$ automatically makes one a criminal

Yes you are.

As an aside, I've always wondered why police stop advice pounds home refusing searches like if you refuse the cop says 'you got me' and bails. I know that it's an important right to have, and you should under no circumstances waive it, but it seems like all too often doesn't matter what you say anyways. It's your word against a cop's.

Nothing new that we haven't discussed here before, but figured another thread of angry fist waving at police won't harm us

The Forth Amendment, LOL. News flash the government passively repealed that annoying little right. It started with metadata and graduated to outright theft of tangible property, cite precedent. The cops in these stories just randomly robbing people have the authority to do so and we are now seeing the price we must now pay for not having stood up to a tyrannical government.

But don't worry you still have the right to bear arms and protect your home with them. I mean it's not like the government can just casually on a whim come into your residence to search and seize them right.

Cops’ desire for fast cash cannot trump the Constitution.

Yeah only corporations can trump the Constitution, know your place pigs
