I have the English Samurai Shodown V Special AES *FIXED* version.

But i also had the MVS version and when i played it on my unmodded AES system via Super MVS Converter II the game worked perfectly with fatal moves intact (just like when playing on a MVS).

This made me thing that the rom contents of both AES carts (fixed and unfixed) aren't the same of the MVS cart like on previous AES carts.

According to MAME (rom/size/crc):

SSVS MVS

272-p1.bin 4194304 fb7a6bba
272-p2.bin 4194304 63492ea6

SSVS AES unfixed

272-p1c.bin 4194304 9291794d
272-p2c.bin 4194304 fa1a7dd8

SSVS AES fixed

272-p1ca.bin 4194304 c30a08dd
272-p2ca.bin 4194304 bd64a518

Have anyone tried to mod the AES cart with the MVS P1/P2 roms to see what happens?

character select screen, sprites, every background fucking flawless.
Washed out palettes, most of the BGs recycled from 3 with reduced color depth, LESS animation, no character-specific stages, less character-specific music, fewer moves per character, redraws for characters that didn't need it (Gaira looks like Fred Flintstone, and the Ruru sisters look even more like six-year-olds). SS4 is a fucking joke.

but i can understand, this coming from someone with an enja avatar. easily the worst drawn character sprite in the entire series.
Oh, what-the-fuck ever. If you had bothered keeping up, you'd know that I change the avatar out fairly often. I like Enja Kazuki from Asura Zanmaden, not the weak MUGEN-ish edit that Yuki put together. I don't play SS5 or 5S.

If you want flawless presentation (irrespective of any evaluation of its gameplay), check out SS64. The game isn't the best of the series, by any means, but no other installment has nearly as much sheer style... except, perhaps, for SS3. ;P

the censorship was applied in the last minute by playmore, due the Nagasaki Incident, it was really not tested well and them they decided to still leave some form of censorchip in the fix.

the mvs holds the intact game data as it was done previously to the homecart and the half assed playmore fix.

Why even post that here?

just trying to point out the absurdity of paying upwards of $700 for an AES cart when you can get a 100% true to the original version for 90¢.

I don't mean to shit on you hobby, but I'm a firm believer in working smarter, not harder.

And stealing whatever you want is working smarter?

Yeah, the portraits aren't bad, but total lack of effort on the background and presentation.

How is buying a boot stealing when SNK no longer manufactures MVS carts?
It's not like SNK sees any money when you buy used.....

My vote goes to SSVS Unfixed Jap: I own two mint copies of SSVS Unfixed (Jap)... but someday I'll go for the fixed one too.

I own 2 mint Japanese SSVS AES carts, one fixed one unfixed and also a mint English AES cart unfixed version. I like the game, since it is a big improvement to the crappy SSV but it doesn't reach the depth, character and style of SS4, in my opinion

Excluding the obvious - the unfixed version of this game is the rarest homecart available.

I have the mvs kit and I love it. Looking to pick up the Japanese Aes version in the future just to complete my sam sho aes collection, but thats if I get lucky and find it for $350-400. Fixed or Unfixed, doesn't really matter.

Are there indeed unfixed versions of the US AES cart? I was under the assumption that all US versions were fixed.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know the current value on an unfixed AES US SS5S?

Thanks in advance.

I have one. Check out mine. It's unfixed.
It's way more than $700. It's a good game. And it's limited because that's how it was released.
