Ok, i looked at the size of these things, they are nice and small.. :)

Then i looked at the pinouts:

<a href="http://mc.pp.se/dc/psu.html" target="_blank">DC PSU Pinout</a>

Then i took my dc apart and noticed it was indeed a nice small PSU. But alas there are no specs on it available.

It's fused, with a 2A fuse.. how can i determine the rating / A output of this thing ?

Reason i ask, is because we seemed to have determined that with 2 big carts the 2-slot mvs seems to draw about 1.5A on the +5 and 0,1A, and i wanna build some shadow-2 systems :)

I know single 5v will work. But the damn power supplies are about $40 because they are so small.. And these DC power supplies can be had for around $19 or less :) :)

So, my question is, will i be safe using this ? And is the 2A fuse a sign of the 2A max output of this thing ?

Idea is to have it look like this except for the 2nd psu and the DC psu will take up the space :)

Thanks for any input :)

I think 2A is the AC fuse (the fuse in the pic is very close to the 2-pin AC plug).

Measuring the amp draw is always a bit tricky as you have to open the circuit and connect the tester leads in series...this seems to be particularly complicated in the case of the Dreamcast...and this would only tell you the dreamcast draw not the maximum amp rate the psu is capable of...

anyway $40 seems to be a bit pricey...I got my Cincon PSU (5V/4.4A) for 25 euros...(I think I already gave you the link for specs in another thread). The same PSU is available here for less than $9:
<a href="https://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=91&prrfnbr=354744&cgrfnbr=780&ctgys=503;528;780;" target="_blank">https://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=91&prrfnbr=354744&cgrfnbr=780&ctgys=503;528;780;</a>

It's an overseas site so shipping will be more than the product itself but it might still be a viable option, especially if you're planning to get more than one. But you should also be able to find it locally from <a href="http://www.acal.nl" target="_blank">www.acal.nl</a> as they do carry Cincon PSU's:
<a href="http://193.78.234.5/cosmos/templates/standaard.jsp?versionId=null&pageId=422&nodeId=145&languageId=1" target="_blank">http://193.78.234.5/cosmos/templates/standaa rd.jsp?versionId=null&pageId=422&nodeId=145&languageId=1</a>

I got mine through the Italian branch of Acal (they don't sell to public but pointed out a distributor near me).

hope this helps ;)

so you use these things to power a supergun?

what would you use for a video conversion board?

Damn some one beat me to using a Dreamcast power supply in a MVS Supergun. I was thinking about this about 2 weeks ago.

I was thinking a Dreamcast supply would also be near ideal since it is:
A. Small
B. provides +3.3v +5v +12v
C. Can be readily found... (even pick up a cheap preowned DC and canabilize the power supply)

I was thinking a JROK RGB encoder to take care of video, tap the audio for line level output and the DC power supply would make for a fine MVS-Gun.

You will either need to build your own RGB encoder, or buy something like the <a href="http://www.jrok.com/hardware/RGB.html" target="_blank">JROK</a> unit.

It can be purchased for about $90.
