Standard Neo Geo Joystick...4- Way or 8-Way

Is the standard stick a 4-way or an 8-way ?

And does it matter ?

8 way.You need the diagonals to perform attacks,specials,etc.
The 4 way sticks are for classic games like Ms.Pac-Man,Mr.Do,etc.
Just the games that require direction movement up,down,right & left.
