Thats easy to answer. Their home system, and CD system have always been a nich system, Every new cart game and CD since who knows had a print run less than 10k, so they lost money on that left and right. The hyper probly lost them some dough.
Oddly enough the neo pocket has probobly been their best money maker for a long while. Even though aruze canned it in the US, they still sold 200k systems here, which is way better than the home system EVER did in america. In japan at least the neo pocket is on the charts for system sales.
Making hardwear and systems is extremely expensive, hell why do you think sega is in dept so much? SNK just started making console games steady a few years ago, they should start making money again. They need to make some big console games that will sell tho. Just 2-D fighters will not bring in the huge cash anymore, capcom knows this more than anyone
