Shawn: Add American Flag Please

bobak - don't lock threads so quickly. Seems like you don't want to recieve feedback on your decision, which makes you look really narrow minded.

Anyhow, if not an american flag, I still think there should be a dropdown menu with all the flags available. I don't think it would be hard to incorporate. All you need is some basic html knowledge of how forms work.

Yeah, I guess I have. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

There's no reason for 99% of these threads to go on. As much as I like hearing the normal troll whine afterward (present company not included), I really don't see the point.

If a person makes a simple request, they will get a simple answer -and that is that.

If people ask for opinions, then let them do so -and let the opinions come on in.

The thread in question was a simple question, followed by a simple answer.

This is the suggestions forum, not a camp-fire for singing com-bah-ya.

It wasn't really a simple request - your answer in the thread seemed to convey that the request would be too complicated due to other nationalities requesting their flag, ie. Brazil. And so it was locked. Why lock it? What if someone had an idea for a better way? Locking threads is sometimes a good thing, but so far, those sometimes are few and far between.

Anyhow, shouldn't you be studying?

Oh, I'm sorry, did you not read my whole answer in that thread? Here's the part you seemed to miss:

"The only flags we add are the universally recognized language flags. Even if we had to differentiate English, we'd use the UK flag over the US one since the UK flag symbolizes the language. We've already denied the request for a Brazilian flag for that very reason: the Portuguese flag is the recognized symbol."

If someone has a new angle on the issue, let them start a new thread instead of instigating an argument with the person who answered the last question.
- you see, EW, the way you're going about this sounds less like you care what "flags" have to do with it, and more that you're looking to use any old excuse to start arguing with me. Please don't waste your time. I'm not going to be swayed on this issue. They system is by no means "broke".

Thank you

No - I caught that point, but I didn't agree with it. That's all. I'd personally like to have access to all the flags. It's not because the system is broke - far from it - the system has been just fine. But sometimes changes can be implemented to better something that is already fine. The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" isn't really a good motto to live by.

Besides that, Portuguese as a language would be better represented by Brazil just based on population. How big is Portugual compared to Brazil? Hell, if you survey 100 random people, which country do you think they would more likely correctly locate on a map? Brazil or Portugual? Not like it matters, right? But if you had both, which is very possible, without taking up much space, in fact less if a dropdown menu is used, wouldn't it make things better? I think so. Then people could use a Chinese flag for they're chinese thread, and maybe even a Japanese flag for a Japanese thread. Perhaps it could even be exclusively available in the int'l forum, so that all foreign language threads are made there.

You see, Bobak, it's not my fault that you're too arrogant and can't see past your own views. What a typical old-style Iranian male. <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" />

Just because you're half or whatever, you have no right to bring my ethnicity into any of my work. Ever. Do I make myself clear?

The thing is:

(1) We let people choose any flag they want for the signature file, that way it's permanently attached to every post you make (Where's yours GA ;) , hello again :) ). How much more patriotic can you be?

(2) We give you the sig-space to add even more flags and go even more ape-shit for patiotism (but one per page since it would also go ape-shit on dial-up members)

(3) The only reason we added flags for the post-header is for the International Forum. That way people can tell which thread is using what language. That's the intended usage, there is no intention to expand that usage considering (1) and (2).

There is method to the madness :D

Not to sound like "Mr. Team Guy," but I agree with Bobak on this one. The flags are for language designations. As an example, the English language flag designation is the Union Jack. We see it on just about any international site that isn't based in the US when they are referring to English version pages.

In the 50, we use Old Glory, of course, but just about every where else, Jack means English pages. EVen the old SNk site was like that. Same thing here. The flags are for function, not pride.

Don't sweat the small stuff. :)

Well, I thought Bobak was Basque!:

Bobak!: is a radical Basque hacker in hiding. Responsible for planning cyber-warfare against Spanish media outlets in Bilbao, Barcelona and Cueta, he is wanted by the Spanish government and the EU. In his spare time he's been documented (through Spanish & French Intelligence) visiting local arcades to play video games -with a penchant for the Neo Geo MVS system. Interpol has tracked his internet activity to a cyber-cafe in Andorra, from which they believe he files his radical leftist propaganda, directions to operatives, and the occasional video game review (to blow off the steam of fighting oppressive regimes).

---------------------

Anyway I do agree with EW that sometimes you lock topics too early, specially in this suggestions forum.

And about the flags, I have to agree with the mods, although EW also has a point here. But those flags represent languages, and not nationalities.

By the way, Bobak, there's no city in Spain called "Cueta", unless you mean "Ceuta", a Spanish city that is located in Africa, in the Morocco coast south of Gibraltar. Morocco claims Ceuta (and Melilla) to be theirs, as much as Spain claims Gibraltar to the UK. In fact last summer Morocco "conquered" a tiny island that was supposed to be Spanish, Perejil, so the Spanish army "reconquered" it. Pretty fun.

What the... I though I erased that description a while back, did you save the original review?

Yes, that's the Ceuta I meant. I guess you could say I'm a geography nut (although apparently not a spelling nut)

Nope, that description is still here:

<a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/reviews/neo-reviews/nitd/nitd.html" target="_blank">http://www.neo-geo.com/reviews/neo-reviews/nitd/nitd.html</a>

Some months ago you edited it after I posted a topic here in suggestions about it, but as far as I know it was never deleted, it's been like that ever since.

In my opinion there's no need to delete it, you could leave it as it is now for me. I don't really like it though, but it's much better than the previous version.

Aww ok. It was late last night and I just missed the point. I havent messed with my sig since I joined up other than to put pictures at the bottom. I didnt remember seeing an American flag to choose from.

I will have to go and look now. And yes if the flag you guys are talking about now is to point out a language then I have to agree with the mods on this one. Our native tongue didnt originate on this soil :)

Anyway Hello Shawn and Ryo, long time no see. Hope things are going well :)

Any chance to change the current flags then to Greek and Roman flags?

Anyhow, Bobak, sorry about the personal attack. It was wrong of me to say it.

Umm... How do I put this...

READ THE WHOLE THREAD BEFORE YOU POST, DAMMIT!

The issue has been decided earlier in the thread, by a combination of the Mods and Shawn himself.

That is our version of the Supreme Court saying "no, no, and for the Nth time NO!"

Topic is decided. Topic is now, without any doubt, fairly closed.
