A true legend. You may not like his music but he was a highly creative musician who gave the world a lot of timeless classics.

Rest in peace.
That's me, I don't like his music. ( Well there's one song at least ) I admit I don't know his whole catalog but pretty sure most of it is that craptastic 60's-70's pop. hERE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_written_by_Burt_Bacharach

Ohhh that horrid Arthur song Roker posted the other day!

I came here just to see if somebody made a thread for him, I thought they would.

Is this some sort of Mendela effect? I could swear he died right before the pandemic.
I remember hearing hearing a segment about him on NPR when I went out to get some Chipotles and then some video played in the background talking about him while I was doing something else.
Maybe they were he's 90 and going to die any day now segments.

Then I thought maybe it was Herb Alpert but he's still alive.
Neil Sedaka... still alive
Tony Orlando alive
?????? Dammit

Well, yeah, it's a bit of crooner stuff and pop on the outside but if you've ever spent some time with the technical side of Burt's compositions, you'll see that it can be very inspiring for a musician. He managed to boost the imagination and inspiration of many musicians, even those of radically different genres.

I can tell you from experience that composing and arranging pop(ular) music that almost everyone likes and nods his head to is incredibly difficult.

I will admit I'm not super versed in his catalogue but he was a pretty great composer.

When I mentioned it at work I had to explain to people "He was the guy playing the piano on the bus in Austin Powers."

Fucking people.

That's the wrong look of love but that album is an absolute banger

yeah, you're right, that's the one, silly me.

Sure, way to San José, another classic.

Tons of versions of this one.

BITD Sega had a free 1800# and you could call them and talk to them about anything.
They would send you out cheat sheets and walkthroughs for free.

Anyways this song was always on in the hold music.
But it wasn't the Dionne Warwichk version pretty sure.
Check on Youtube it was the Aretha Franklin version, much better IMO.
It relies more on her booming soulful powerful melodical vocals and backup singers.
The instrumentals are less superficial (real instruments) and muted in the background.

What's the last song he wrote that someone recorded and commercially released?

He did an album with some country singer during the pandemic. In his 90s.

Tell you what, I should have been a major record executive in the 70's.
Captain & Tanille / Tony Orlando & Dawn I would've nipped all that kinda shit right in the fuckin bud.
Lot's of shite music during the 70's.
Sorry not sorry.

So these musicians could just get signed anyway to a different label? Great idea!:sneaky:

Also, there's lots of shit music every decade. What's your point?

ABSOLUTELY LOVE BURT BACHARACH!!!! I love those genres of music: Burt Bacharach/Henry Mancini/Bosa Nova, Sergio Mendes. That was awesome music. It's nice to see Burt getting some recognition here. I believe The Look of Love was written for Casino Royale, the 1967 movie with Peter Sellers, David Niven etc. And of course there's Alfie:
