those are the only ones I'll play

That's 'cause you eat cock though.

My vote goes to '02. I never thought '98 could be surpassed, but '02 has had my heart since it came out. I loved '01 as well, but '02 really brought it all together.

3 on 3 > 4 on 4

Lot of numbers in this post...:annoyed:

P.S. - It's nice to see so few votes for '97 and '99, they're my least favs of them all. Both playable games with some positives to be found, but I always considered them the black sheeps of the KOF catalogue. At least now I know I'm not crazy.

It sounds boring, but I'd rate 98 as the best. Its the highlight of the series imo.

02 was ok, but I haven't really played the Eolith KoF's much to compare.

From what I played i'd say 98, 2k and 96 are my favorite. KoF97 used to be up there too, but I find it pretty much useless with 98 around.. I've sold the cart for this reason. KoF99 got higher in my ranks, I always hated it but since I received the AES cart I 'm liking it more and more. I especially like the futuristic style, soundtrack and artwork of it. In terms of gameplay and roster its mediocre.

KOF is all about '95, '98, '02 and '03 for me. Those are the games I've had the most fun with. I really could never get into the others.

I voted for a couple, but '97 will always hold a special place in my heart.

I'm surprised a horrible game like '96 is in second place.

I could make anybody hate '96 just by playing against them with an Iori-Mature-Chin team.

My favorite KoFs are 94, 95, 97, 98 and 2k1.

Runners up (no vote) 99 and 2k2.

96 is broken, 2k and 2k3 are okay but nothing special in my book... even tho I played TONS of 2k, despite my initial aversion against strikers which turned into rabid striker love in 2k1, it's up there with 98 as my all-time fave KoF.

How the hell people like 2k2 is beyond me. The whole presentation of that game looks like ass. The stages the menus the animation. Sheesh. Game makes me vomit with its uglyness.

Wow, old thread bump.

Fist of all, it went back to 3 vs 3 with no strikers, thank god. Secondly, it has some really amazing game play. Thirdly, it came after 2001, and I think ANYTHING has better music and art than that game.

I really dig 2002. Great gameplay feel. Second favorite KOF behind 98 for me.

Old thread bump is right.

These days I think I'd vote for KOF94. Not because of gameplay, but because of simplicity. It was the only KOF that didn't contain any weird new-age mysticism or crossdressing metrosexuals - just pure late 80's early 90's action-flick beat 'em up fighting game cheese.

KOFXI, Maximum Impact, Maximum Impact 2, Neowave should be on the list

Because all the Rate it polls are for MVS only. The are used for reference for people that are debating on buying certain games.

Who the fuck cares what they know? You dont have to know shit about something as long as you've played it you have a right to have a preference weather you like it or not. Get your head out of your ass. Knowing about the neogeo and its games or its history doesnt mean shit to most people. Its all about if they're having fun with the game. Elitism is so lame.

I think 2003 only had a good roster and that's it.

KOF '98 and 2002 are the best, but at this point I'd take KOF '98 Ultimate Match over the original (more characters, new moves, new backgrounds, more music...can't be beat!). Likely to be the same for 2002 Unlimited Match when that hits.

But no question out of the games in the poll, '98 is by far the best.

I've realised recently that theres no need to own all the kof's - I'm keeping 94 for nostalgia factor, 98 because its the best, 99 + 00 because I enjoy the 1p game.

Selling 95,96,97,2k1,2k3, I never get to play them in 2P, its always 98 if its 2P, and you can only play these games in 1P a certain amount of times. I never get bored of 98 however. I'll try pick up a cheap 2k2 in future even though I remember not particularly liking it. But I guess I'll be down to 94,98,99,2000. :emb:

I own all the KOFs but only play 96,98 and 2002. The others are just collection only. If I come across better looking labels I switch them out until I will get a perfect set. Same with the slugs.

I couldn't decide between 02 and 99. I loved the music and backgounds in 99, but don't like the strikers. I love the engine in 02 and it has al my favorite characters, but the music tracks are all weak renditions f past songs, with the exception of a handful.
