Saw this from this link:

Last time it was ( Jan 10 - 16, 2005):

System - Sales this week - Total this year
PlayStation 2 - 65,837 - 189,238
PlayStation Portable - 62,052 - 126,654
Nintendo DS - 53,527 - 162,088
Game Boy Advance SP - 18,289 - 89,140
GameCube - 7,465 - 27,178
Game Boy Advance - 588 - 2,307
Xbox - 506 - 1,685

Most up to date sometime last week ( 17 - 23 Jan):

PSP: 66,000
PS2: 52,000
DS: 47,000
GBA SP: 19,000
GC: 4,000
GBA: 600
XB: 400

Considering that the DS has more units available etc (like ~by twice as much I heard)... is it wrong to assume that the demand of the PSP may be greater than the DS over in Japan?

Another link here shows the trend...

Well, I'm surprised the DS is doing as well as it is - I thought the DS would be getting trampled by now.

Anyway, the numbers put up by the Xbox are just pathetic - man o' man. Maybe next time they'll build a machine which doesn't take up an entire Japanese studio apartment.

!!

Who the fuck is still buying the first GBA models?

If you think that is bad, look at the XBOX numbers. Yikes!!
Even more people bought the original GBA than XBOXes.
Fucking pathetic. I guess they won't have XBOX 2 in Japan.

Not that care for it anyway. Pice of shit console. Compared to that
even the PS2 looks hot. The only good game thay have is Steel Battalion,
and maybe Doom 3; but for thay we'll have to see.

 I wonder if it'll shake some of Nintendo's confidence in the handheld market?

I liked the feel of the original GBA, unlike the SP... all they had to do was make the damn thing back lighted from the start. :oh_no:

I think you'll see the DS do well through its life span.

crap... did you see castlevania?
They are supposively stating that the DS can do better 2d than the Ps1

and you know Sony is going to push full 3d on their PSP. They have been doing that with the Ps2 and not letting certain games get developed...etc.

I don't know... I think the DS is going to do well AS LONG AS they can get the games lined up... and the games seem to be lining up well.

Looks like the ds is holding its own... over all units sold is still more then the psp however that is due to the units being avail and the early launch release

On the software side the ds is killing the psp in sales... maybe it is just because of the extra hardware that was avail... maybe it was because nintendos released alot of the best sellers and nintendo stuff sells like hotcakes over there... Y because they are great games through and through...

As long as nintendo keeps putting up large amounts of ds software sales im sure the 3rd parties will come through.. they just need more 3d stuff and get used to the hardware a bit because rayman is looking great in my opinion.

Gba is still selling wow! about psp outselling ds, thats not a surprise, the japanese really like sony products, and gba outselling xbox, thats just great, since the only place the xbox sells is right here at home.

The DS has been out for quite a while and well supplied. The PSP has been in rather short supply until recently and is a good month behind due to release. Give it a while and then we can get a better idea of which one is going to be lasting. Of course, it's likely possible (as stated previously by several people) that the handheld market can support to systems well enough.

I still would like to know who in Japan needs to buy a PS2? I mean based off of the numbers, everyone in japan should have at least one by now. But yet it's always about 50k a week.

If you take away the replacement PSP sales, the chart would be diferent.

I bet at least 20% of them already had issues. Sony !

I'm not sure if the author of this thread desperately wants the DS to fail ...I seem to remember him posting something along these very lines last week as well.
Whatever the case, this should keep Nintendo on their toes and show them that they can take nothing for granted.
