So, like the title says: Is this common?? I was sitting in the same room as my ps3 while on the internet and all of a sudden sparks start shooting out of the cord and I see some small flames. The system wasn't in use. I haven't used it for a few weeks. Maybe that pissed it off. :)

It was the power cord that came with the system when I got it. It didn't have any problems I was aware of.........until then. I quickly unhooked it to make sure it didn't damage the ps3 or anything else around it. I'm happy I was home, otherwise who knows what could have happened?

It's wondering why you haven't got Dragon's Crown.

That's a bit odd, are you sure the cable wasn't damaged prior?

It's plugged into a surge protector. I don't think the problem was with a surge of electricity. I think, like others have said, there was a problem with the cable that I wasn't aware of. Scary stuff, though, to hear a *pop* them smell smoke while seeing sparks coming from the back of the ps3.

Maybe it heard me saying that I was going to get an Xbox One instead of a Ps4. :)

It does look like it failed right were the (not too effective) strain relief ends. Still, if the cables aren't frequently bent or shoved against a wall they're not likely to fail.

Assuming the PS3 still works, I'd leave the replacement cable unplugged when away from the console.

im serious about the mice. I've had mice chew on my speaker cables.

I've had ferrets chew through my mothers TV cables...
