Cinema mode? You can buy a Viewmaster VR and put your cell phone in that if all you wanna do is watch porn an inch from your face.

Those phone add-ons might be the way, simply since as you say you just need a cellphone. Which would suck for me, but then walkmans are not replaced via cellphones, and since that happened I stopped listening to music for the most part.

Something about using a cellphone for anything other than phone calls and emails just... irks me. But you're right 90% of the world would love to have everything compressed into their cellphone.

What an awful life you live.

Then go buy a Tracfone.

Pretty much.

However, I do enjoy pleasuring myself in style, and I'm allowed to spoil myself.

o.0 Those things suck at everything.

iPhone is really good at email and phone calls. Apple's clearly a horrible company though, They add all this extra app store crap just cause they want a profit. But fuck that, they should be just making their phone for me, in fact they shouldn't even make phones for anyone else.

I'll wait awhile for this. I got headaches from Virtual Boy.

I think this will walk all over the rift with this price point.

The pc you need to run the rift isn't something everyone has kicking around their house these days, your average family has a few laptops and a tablet or two so spending $600 on a rift then $1000+ on the rig to play it is going to be a killer.

Yet either they, or their 9 year old son, has a ps4 sitting there already, so the price difference in a lot of people's heads isn't going to be a couple of hundred, it's going to be over a thousand.

yeah I'll pay for this :) I've found with my DK2 that I can have a amazing VR experience even if the geometry of a game is simple, as long as the frame rate is rock solid and the actual game design is good it's alot cooler than playing on a display with a higher detail level.

I think I actually have a shot at playing a awesome VR multiplayer game with multiple friends with this shit, I am the only person I know nerdy enough to buy a DK2.

Oculus plays games.
PSVR plays enhanced mobile games.

there's a big difference.

The price is not so much.
Oculus is $600, VR computer is only $550
PS4 is $350, PSVR is $500 with move and camera bundle.

That's not a huge gap when you consider the quality of content.

As of now, VR is more of an interesting read, than usage. Like playing 5th gen 3D titles back in the day, just a blocky mess with less than 30fps, PVR will also not age well in time, so I'll gladly wait till VR4, leaving out the guinea pig stage. There could be some silver lining tho, as people will hopefully dump some of their classic stuff to buy this one.

Nah man, you're not going to be able to walk into your average high street store and pick up an oculus rift ready pc for $550. Sure you could build that but mainstream success isn't gained through DIY.

Plus my point was the PS4 is already going to be there in a lot of households.

I wouldn't preorder any VR headsets, to be honest.

When are people going to learn to stop being early adopters? I mean honestly now. It worked out really well for PS Move and TV, didn't it?

The only benefit I can see from preordering a PS VR is that you might be able to scalp it around launch since people are dumb and hype will be high. But that'd be a pretty shitty thing to do.

If there are a few decent VR games, it might push me over the edge to get a PS4. I don't have a computer that can run Rift, so upgrading comp + OC would be too expensive.

Ah, fair point. That would require DIY computer skills. Computer builders these days really only charge about 10% margin tho. You still can't ignore the cost of the PS4 and peripherals.

@liquid snake - the VR porn scene was an early adopter. Just like games, there are people that do it well and people that do it poorly. It will be there when you are ready.

I would love to get the Oculus Rift... But since I already have a PS4, I will jump on the PS 4 VR bandwagon.

To me the early adopter argument against is mute. People who like videogames and new tech are participating in the consolidation of these new worlds. At least that is what I used to feel when I would half blindly buy a new console close to release. Half the fun is having a stake in the game, and watching the puppy grow. When 3D was still early there all kinds of weird things happening. It was great.

We all know that the day VR becomes a standalone headset, whereby the unit itself is like a PC shell and everything else is upgradable - there will be no looking back. It will probably transcend it's place on the map and become as part of everyday life as cellphones.
But the sweet spot is bypassing the console/PC. Then even your gran will have one.
