I was asking the same thing yesterday - it works like this:

The guy is registered when he makes that post, gets detected by a mod and his account is deleted so he appears as an unregistered member from now on in that thread.

Now that would be an example of posts being erased together with their user's account!
I've seen this in the war room recently...frightening...it makes everyone that answered to such posts originally looking as he would talk to himself... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
