Well, since DSD decided to repost in a new thread, I thought I'd follow with a repost of my thoughts (since I also talked to them today):

At first, the arguement was:
Apple Photo Systems

1) printed
2) manufactured
3) distributed
4) sold

these carts.

(1) (2) & (4) are incorrect.

So we're stuck on (3).

Was Apple the 'middle-man' between a deal between SNK Japan and Shawn?

I do know that the actual carts never went thru Apple. So that makes option (3) still viable, but it seems to suggest that Apple may have only had a passing involvent, like an escrow or broker (possibly a trusted broker since they already deal with SNK as an official distributer of their other products).

Theory:
-SNK and Shawn made a deal.
-SNK wants to becareful not to get screwed (again... thanks NGF)
-SNK asks payment through their only US distributor: Apple Photo Systems
-Once payment was recieved by SNK, the manufacturing begins (hence, Shawn made the announcement)
-The games go directly from SNK to Shawn, as the original dealers.

I think this is the most reasonable suggestion considering the evidence.

I substantiated this from Lord Ill's phone call.

The Apple Systems person (who sounded different than the sales rep I talked to), said that is was a deal between SNK and an individual at neo-geo.com (remember, this is technically a fan-site). That explains why the person I talked to didn't know of any company (including themselves) that deals with the Neo Geo home system.

BTW: I do know why Shawn is quiet. I remember him mentioned that a deal fell through (this was over 8 or 9 months ago) because he mentioned it here and it got back to SNK. Those old style Japanese companies are real hardasses on what they consider business ettiquete/honor.

The carts were never seen by Apple.

I'm not sure what ILL (on the phone obviously) and DSD think they've proven. In fact, that call doesn't support ANY of their accusations. It only proves that MS3 WAS and original authentic cart, MANUFACTURED by SNK in Japan, and SHIPPED to the U.S. The guy at Apple obviously is providing the appearance that Apple was an intermediary for the shipment, but we know ourselves from proof that the shipment went directly from SNK Japan (Osaka) to Memphis TN.

ILL and DSD, drop this stuff. It's done, these carts are authentic, and thats it. You guys are doing nothing more than damaging your reps by going on and on about this stuff. Its over, ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG AND APOLOGIZE AND WE'LL DROP IT.

hey, did the Apple rep. give his consent for his phone call to be recorded? If not, that is highly illegal!

Then to post it openly in a public place... man I'd get rid of that before you get in trouble...Obviously apple is aware of this site.
(also, this call seems to point to the cart's authenticity if anything)

Seriously, though, how easy could it be to fake something like that. It does not classify as proof.

Fuck, I dont know if I should buy Shawns or NCS Metal Slug.

On one hand, Shawn offers this service (boards, cool community, the very existance of new US carts), on the other I can get the Japanese cart for cheaper (albeit 20-30 dollars cheaper, which, relatively speaking, aint that much)

Rade, pick up the English MS3, you won't be sorry. I bought both, because I didn't want to back out on my NCS order after confirming with them a while ago. But given the choice, I'd have just gotten the English one.

I know you may not care about rarity, but with only 500 made the English copy will likely have a higher demand and greater value (smaller supply). And its nice to have an English manual and insert with the game.

The JPN version does have a very nice front cover, but the spine image and back cover on the English care are superior IMO, plus having an English manual is much nicer. It's worth the extra $17 (285 - 268). <IMG SRC="smilies/eek2.gif" border="0">

I think that the Japanese cart's cover art is much better looking, many would agree.
